Yup, there's a big difference between escaping and being on the run, some have said escaping is the easy part staying on the run is where you run into many difficulties
“Time in prison led to weight loss”. My uncle was also a US solider who was in a German POW camp, and he weighed just over 100 pounds when liberated….but met a cute nurse named Katie while recovering, and they were married 50 years. My uncle never discussed the worst aspects of the camp with me, but did mention that he and the other US POWs we’re still a bunch of late teen or college age guys, and so there was still joking around. One example was that they taught one of the dumber German guards, who wanted to learn English, ridiculous phrases like that you say “how is your packer hanging?” for “how are you?” or that the proper way to say good-bye is “bye-bye, buy war bonds.” (A meme from a war bond commercial at the time).
This has given me a hankering to play a game I've rarely thought about since I last played it decades ago. Prisoner of War was an excellent game in which escaping from numerous prisoner of war camps, without the use of violence, is the goal.
My dad's school growing up was def used as prison / torture center for pow during ww2. He said there used to be sightings of marching ghosts and sounds of pulled chain at night.
I've been subscribed since you first started posting in 2019, the cute chibi art style was my favorite thing about your videos, it's sad to see that it's gone now :(
Dude was determined! Can you imagine 12 attempted escapes during World War 2 and the 13th, the successful one? Amazing. I don't know if I would have continued going after the third or fourth attempt. He had some strong belief that he could free himself and he did.
Awesome story, very interesting indeed! I'm really impressed by his determination, many would have given up a lot sooner. Also really glad to see the little Brew animations at the end, always loving those a lot
Something to be said about persistance. I'm pretty sure Bill is one of the reasons even civilians know that a soldier's one and only duty when captured by the enemy is to escape.
honestly yeah. there is absolutely no way you can escape from prison 18 times in a row without at least considering you might have the plot armor of bugs bunny
