    Early in the video you showed the trap a long way back from the hole. Why was that?

    • @billingsleybrandtrappinglu1531
      @billingsleybrandtrappinglu1531  19 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      I personally like to set farther back from the hole for coyote and especially cats Just Me and here's why. Cats a lot of times naturally hang back. And if he decides to work that hole, I don't want to miss him. Simply because you might only have one shot at the cat. And for coyote it's just simply because I've had better luck by setting back anywhere between 12-16 inches back from the hole. Some guys set way up close I like to set back farther. A lot depends on the angle of the hole and depth of the trench as to the distance you need to be. I know I've done a video on that subject before too. If you go into my playlist in coyote trapping it's in there.

    • @justme4172
      @justme4172 19 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Do you always set that far back on all set types? Or just trench?

    Great video Mr Dale. Id love to see a more in depth video on Gang setting a location. Just say a big intersection of roads or something where you need/want to put 6 or 8 sets in. What sets and what baits/lures and why. Ive gone against using the same bait/lure multiple sets ON this one location but that may not even be right. Hopefully you understand what I'm asking. Whatever you come up with next ill be watching. Thank you sir

    Another great explanation Dale, thanks. I have a nasty smart Red Fox I'm dealing with right now. Sucker came in a few nights ago and killed 26 chickens and a duck. I've been mafia setting a few of the carcasses and have had action every night. First night it dug me out, grabbed the bird and left. Last night it stepped between pans at 2 locations and made off with the carcasses. I know it will be back as long as there are birds to be eaten, but I'm at a loss. I don't trap a lot of fox here in Montana, so not real familiar with their quirks. Any advice would be appreciated.

      Maybe try a little more guiding Johnny. Also not sure what you're using for pan covers but wire screen will increase the pan area. By doing that no matter where he steps between the jaws, he's yours. Hope this helps ya some . I appreciate you watching

      If that's what's working for you Mark then that s what you want to do. For coyotes and cats I've had better luck back farther and making them step down. For red I wouldn't be back near as far. I'd be somewhere in the 12-16 inches pan center instead of 16-20 inches like this video. But with that I've caught several reds back that far also. I appreciate you watching these videos Mark. Thank you

    How can you tell if its a bedding problem or they smelled steel? I dont know if there is a way to tell, but maybe you have an idea how. Ive had a few traps dug up but I'm pretty asinine on bedding my traps. I know Yotes can smell steel or your scent on traps. Was just wondering and THANKS again for GREAT VIDEOS!!!

      So anymore hoyt I'm not so sure here in the midwest that I buy into the whole being scared of steel smell. Just because they come in contact with it all the time. I mean they've pissed on every piece of old machinery and steel post between here and Des Moines. I tend to think anymore it's a contamination or bedding problem. Those are just my thoughts. Until I get a coyote to answer all my questions I have well just have to speculate. Thank you for watching
