The one about the diver was a guy who was trying to convince people to jump off of burning buildings, and originally, his idea was to jump safely down into the water to show people that you won't die by falling itself, which is apparently something people did genuinely believe, but instead, you'd die from the hard impact.
Strong wind disturbed his dive and made him land sideways instead of properly diving, making him hit the surface tension of the water with the world's most painful belly flop and killing him instantly.

Yeah, I think I read or heard somewhere that jumping off a bridge that high into water is worse than jumping off a building the same height and landing on concrete. Yeesh.
@@nataliegray8019 I think the theory is that concrete has air bubbles in it, while water is almost entirely incompressible. Not sure if it's been proven in any way though. What has been proven is that landing on steel scaffolding, the grid stuff that is, is much better than landing on either water or concrete. At least wider scaffolding. Someone did a parachute jump and both the main and backup failed, but they survived by landing on a raised scaffolding. They broke just about every bone they could, but it swayed enough to keep them dying on impact and was saved afterwards. Tree branches are a good bet as well.
Feels unintuitive to aim for a pine or steel scaffolding instead of a lake if your parachute fails, but there you go.

Re: The cell phone tower "tree." It's just a joke about how poorly they fit in with the trees surrounding them. I presume this style was designed on the West Coast, because there are trees that actually look kind of like that here. I'm from the NYC area, and they use the same style, but it looks ridiculous there because 99% of the trees are not tall and narrow pine/fir/etc.
Ten years ago, when I was visiting the West Coast to consider moving here, one of my most memorable experiences was discovering that those towers kinda sorta "worked" with the trees out here. I'd just assumed they looked fake everywhere.

why do these videos feel depressed in a way? theres things like the volleyball part showing how horrible people can be, how the grandma noit knowing what nnn was being the punchline, and immediately after that the adult fettish thing. its becoming common with alot of these videos im noticing, it kind of just becomes depressing no matter what subreddit is being covered
Yeah this is a trend ive noticed since 2020 where memes have gradually gotten more depressing. I dont think its entirely emkay's fault either cause even the supposed happy or funny subreddits have this all over. I think its just the internet culture being rather depressed in general.

Man, I do like how Robin narrates, but he really ruins things sometimes. I get it, not everyone is the same and some things are weirder or worse than others, and some things here definitely are weird or bad, but he’s really a party pooper sometimes. I can’t help but focus on something like a sore thumb when that sore thumb is him injecting a line about the Earth’s health into what was supposed to be a fun video [4:57]. Recently I’ve been avoiding their videos on subreddits like r/shrinkflation when I normally wouldn’t, since they just make me sadder than I otherwise would’ve.

No one gonna mention that the math of the last meme was horrendously off? (44 * 10 ^ 9) / (8 * 10 ^ 9) = 44 * 8^-1 * 10^9 * 10^-9 = 44 * 8^-1 = 44/8 = 11/2 which is just a bit more than 5 dollars they were off by 9 orders of magnitude.
