Maid Party had an update: Roommate went to party where all the Richies made fun of her for her outfit and then excluded her from most conversations, her "boyfriend" basically ignored her the whole time, talked to all the other girls at the party and treated her like crap. She came home with smeared makeup(most likely from crying). Roommate told OP she was right not to go to said party. Roommate still didn't apologize about the fight but OP doesn't really care about the apology.

My read on the situation is that the roommate is super nervous about impressing her boyfriend’s friends and just says yes to whatever he’s asking. Unfortunately for her, he seems to have the mindset that women and partners are something to be shown off. Sounds like he just wanted her to stand around and look pretty.

Roommate learned the hard way to not brush off the concerns of a friend.
But roommate was so blinded by “love”, that she’d allow herself to be degraded and treated poorly by her so called “bf” and his friends.

I feel like in story 2 the ending is going to be bad no matter what. Best case scenario is that the friend's boyfriend is a stuck up rich dude with classist views but isn't dangerous and the friend doesn't care about this red flag. Worst case scenario is that this boyfriend is dangerous and the friend can't see it until it's too late. In any way OP's friendship is on thin ice at the moment because she can either go to the party against her wishes just to make sure the friend is ok, or not go the party and hope that the friend doesn't come back in bad shape.
There is also the possibility that the guy doesn't mean anything bad but, judging from the post, it's very unlikely.

Eh that's a pretty limited view on a bilingual family, sometimes my parents drop into their native language if they're talking about something they don't have the English for, or if it's about something that literally doesn't concern anyone else, like they might quickly ask me a question like "what time do you have to leave tomorrow?" Also they sometimes double check with me if I have a friend over, like they'd ask the friend in English if they want anything to drink, and if they say no they might turn to me and ask "is he sure? Or is he just being polite?" In another language.
So there are plenty of reasons to drop to a different language.

@@internetuser969 Yeah, this. Heck, I drop into English with my Finnish friends, to whom Finnish is also their native language just like me, just because the topic shifts to professional shit and English is our working language (in addition to being my 2nd).
We - as in my fam and friend circles - can have convos in a few languages at once. Maybe one of us just can't recall the word in another mutual language and someone pipes up with the correct phrasing (fun fact, code switching like this temporarily also unblocks your brain to let you access info you got stuck on much faster than just remaining stuck on that one word in that one language - neat!). Or someone has an aside that has nothing to do with anyone else for a particular person, and does that in a mutual language they jive with without care if everyone can understand "hey remind me to tell you about this thing I bought you might like".
Heck, I've had an entire holiday trip with two people in Japanese, Spanish and Finnish simultaneously, because we didn't have a single common language we three could all comfortably speak (as in I spoke Finnish with one, Japanese with the other, and the other two spoke Spanish with each other). None of us spoke all three fluently, but could muddle with some of the other two with context clues for the duration, so actually a lot of convos involving all three of us had surprisingly little repetition aside from quick translations by one to clue in the least fluent person.
lol, one of my fave bonding moments with a neighbour was realising they speak one native language with their siblings and the other with their parents, unless they wanna piss of their mom and then they switch to English for arguments with the parents, or exit out with the second native. Cause yeah, it makes multilingual situations much quicker sometimes to have like a go-to you speak with a specific person?
That's just how multilingual works sometimes.
But yeah, with this story I'm just shocked at the husband - how little does he speak about his spouse to his German family? How little does the family know about the OP?? Like to not even know they speak the language in the country they moved to, like at least a little? If I've ever learnt anything is that you can never assume someone in the most surprising setting can understand you, especially when you bitch about something.

But the situation described in this story seems completely different from yours? The only "bullying" Kimantha can describe is "kicking dirt at Petal at recess" and "sometimes not sitting with her at lunch". There's NO indication whatsoever that Annabelle is behaving the way you describe your neighbour's kid behaving. And combined with the thing about Betty choosing to sleep out on the hard, cold porch rather than inside the house in a bed just to get away from her father... yeah, no. These kids definitely aren't just bored and bothering random neighbours for the hell of it, they're desperate to be somewhere other than with their parents.

However, she collected kids like trophies. so too in plenty of kids. Even when there wasn't any abuse or situation going on. Just a dispute between teenager and child and insisted that her house was the best option for all of these children... She then proceeded to claim them all as foster.Children get foster paychecks for them,Temporary and long term, and proceed to take out utilities in their names and ruin their credit.
Her son has a very strange relationship with her. Her daughter still thinks she hung the moon and that she is amazing. Her daughter's friends( who minds you along with her daughter are all well into their 30s) Still think she's the cool mom and everything's cool. However those of us who were the foster children all had to call the police at some point to file reports of credit fraud.

Story 3: If there isn't something big being left out of this story, OP, get the hell out before you get her pregnant. The likely reasons she waited until you started eating to start complaining were because you would be less likely to be able to argue because, well, you're eating, and you were likely to be pinned down in the one place for long enough for her to get all her grievances out. That would be annoying in the best scenarios, but when the daily list of problems starts with you kicking her shoe while you were getting dressed and it wasn't on her foot at the time? People tend to start with their biggest problem in times like this. I'm not sure if there's trauma about shoe kicking there or what, but if the bar is that low for figuring out what she wants to have a confrontation about, she's either inventing /magnifying things to have a reason to get in your face at dinner, or she really lacks the ability to let go of even the most petty things. Is there a chance this is a kink she has, and she wants to get into an argument that devolves into a food fight with an angry sex session after? If you're going to stay with her, she's going to need therapy.

“She said that I’m lame, boring and not being a supportive friend” - this is classic - but often subconscious, everyone does it almost constantly - manipulation/coercion. ‘I want, you won’t, so I will say/do whatever to shame, guilt or browbeat you into giving me what I want’.
People often get angry or defensive in response - but it’s worth learning to ‘hear’ the ‘why’ behind accusations like this, so you can respond to the underlying matter and not waste time or energy on nonsense.
Of course, the person reflexively trying to pressure you into compliance probably won’t do the same. They’ll continue reacting instinctively to the probable feeling of betrayal (‘I’m shy to do this but I want to and I expect you to do it with me so I won’t be scared and I’m hurt/offended that you won’t because I expected you to agree’) and may feel attacked if you respond by trying to drill down to the underlying issue… but hey, if you’re wasting your time anyway… 😅

German Story: Using Lilith is a bit of a weird name because of all the evil connotations many cultures and belief systems have over it. I like the name too, but it'll definitely catch a LOT of judgement because, in most cases, Lilith is a succubus who sleeps with married men to ruin relationships and murders babies. It has nothing to do with "ghost" or "of the night" unless the second one is about being loose and a homewrecker.

That 'momma to all kids' is not nice at all! Years ago we had 'friends'(I went to high school with the woman and hubby knew the husband from somewhere) that moved nearby. They had a few older kids, and a daughter close to our daughters age. They became fast friends. The little girl wanted to be at our house all the time, and we allowed it. We soon learned why. The parents were hard partiers, not just alcohol, but coke, acid and drugs you take with a needle. They had people in and out of their house constantly, and there was no structure for the kids. The little girl stayed over often. She so desperately wanted a 'normal' family. One night the father came by insisting we give his child to him(it was long after the girls went to sleep, somewhere about 2am). We showed him she was sleeping, but he took her anyway. It occurred to us the father was abusing her. We moved away, but we let her know where, so if she needed us, we could help her. She showed up at our door, when she was 15 and pregnant. She had an older man 'boyfriend' and was heavily into drugs now too. She told us about the pregnancy before she even told her own parents. The last we seen her was on the front page of the newspaper, with her mother saying how her own drug abuse, got her daughter into the same drugs. She had overdosed and died, at 17. The father overdosed not long after too. When a child needs help and comes to you, don't push them away, you may be the ONLY person they trust, and can come to. We did all we could to help her, but her story was already written, when she was born. Rip Katie. Hope you're in hell Rick!

I hope her sibling's words got something going in her brain and she does the right thing. Maybe I'm just putting too much of my childhood in that story, but i really hope someone does something for those kids before it's too late (that's from watching too much Evil Lives Here).

Story 1) Yeah no, if you're gonna 'be' that kind of mom on social media, you gotta live up to it. You can't just claim that you're that kind of parent and then ignore the kids who ACTUALLY need you. Why hasn't she called CPS? Those kids are 100% being neglected! NTA.
Story 2) NTA 100%, he is basically using this as an excuse to have his 'flavor of the month' present (as he likely doesn't want anyone knowing he's 'dating' a poor person) but also seeing an opportunity to make his friends night. This is literally just a party meant to have sex while shitting on poor people and I can guarantee you will regret going to that party.
Story 3) Your gf is psychotic and you need to leave her. Someone who says something like 'you're not meeting *MY* expectations', is a straight up narcissist and deserves to be lonely if they're going to be that bad about it. NTA.
Story 4) Yeah no, definitely go with the divorce option, no sane partner thinks 'oh, my S/O is getting a crap ton of money! I know *exactly* what I want to do with money that doesn't belong to me!' Honestly, I've kind of been in that situation before, my grandfather passed away almost 10 years ago and left us about $85k, up until that point, we hadn't been paying rent because the house is a double that was owned by my stepdad's father. But once my stepdad blabbed about the inheritance, suddenly we owed rent backing up until the day *we* moved into the side and we ended up forking over $25k. Money that was supposed to be in case of emergency. And worse yet, my stepdad (being a spoiled brat of a daddy's boy) wouldn't defend when my mom put her foot down. He just sided with daddy dearest. If he wanted rent, that was fine, we'd work it into the finances, but the fact he was demanding our inheritance money for rent? (He literally wouldn't take anything less than $10k up front and then another $15k the next inheritance check) It boils my blood when other people think they're entitled to someone's inheritance money. NTA.
Story 5) They're just mad they've been outed. Like honestly, who the hell thinks they should be allowed to hide behind their language? If you can't say something to someone's face, then don't say it at all, you cowards. NTA, they need to mind their own damn business.

  • @BeeWhistler

Yeah, as a mom of 3 kids, I dunno where it says you know nothing about kids if you don’t have any. What I’ve never understood is how anyone reaches adulthood knowing nothing about kids. You… were a kid. For literal years. The years that formed you as a person (on top of the personality you were born with, that is). How does anyone who had even a marginally stable childhood not know anything about kids? You might not know what modern kids have going on but you should remember what it was like to be one.
And don’t suggest they need to mind their business. I know a guy who refuses to have kids because he and his twin were abused by their mom. He doesn’t trust himself to be a father after the examples he saw. But best believe he knows when he sees a kid in a bad situation. He knows far too well how to recognize that.
And I am actually the “cool” mom… not because I’m actually cool, but because I’m down to earth. No pretense, no trying to stay looking young, no head games or trying to live vicariously through my kids. If my kids say a friend needs to get out of the house for a while because things are turbulent and they’re lashing out at each other, if I can make time, we head over and get them. Bear in mind… this was when they were teens/adults, with parental approval where applicable. They’d sleep over or we’d drive around a bit. And my daughter’s friends have some pretty difficult parents to deal with. I don’t have demands or expectations of them and that’s relaxing for someone whose parents pick fights over nothing, or whose step-dad is always making demeaning remarks (mom finally kicked him out), or whose adopted parents treat you like freaking Cinderella because they gave you a home out of “Christian duty.” And yeah, we’re Christian, too… I just really hate it when people throw the name around for appearances but make no effort to live up to the values. You adopt a kid, that’s your kid, you love them and raise them as yours. Full stop. But I digress.
Tl;dr… Everyone was a kid once, and there’s childless people who care more about kids than some proud parents. No sense getting elitist about either. It’s just a choice.
