I mean SMB3 kind of did this: Tanooki Mario was an upgrade to Raccoon Mario, and Hammer Brother Mario was an upgrade to Fire Mario.
I do get what you're saying, but Mario Bosses aren't like Kirby Bosses: In Mario every enemy and boss has a set number of hits, Bosses usually having 3. meanwhile Kirby Bosses depend on a damage percentage.

Well, all super abilities have those animations so this person was triggering them before fighting so it didn't add more seconds to the timer on the top left
