The thing about real barrel staves is that they aren't cut and then curved, and they certainly can't be as thin as you made yours. They're made from larger, thicker pieces of oak and carved into that curved shape, traditionally by hand. Also fun fact, a real barrel isn't held together with fasteners or adhesives, it's held together solely by the pressure from the outer metal bands, as well as the moisture from whatever is inside the barrel causing the oak to swell (also traditionally sealed with dried rush/reeds between the staves to prevent leaks). I know in the end you weren't trying to make a real barrel, just a hammer head that looked like one, but just figured I'd leave this here for any of your future barrel-making escapades.

"they aren't cut and then curved" - aren't they, though? When I watch a video of a barrel being made, I see the staves start out straight and are brought together into their final curved shape by the hoops.
edit - I realized you're probably talking about the curve across the width of each stave, not down the length. I think you're right, they seem to be carved to be curved in that direction, plus the circumference is usually split into more staves that are not as wide.

I think barrel makers use steam to bend the staves to form the nice curvatures. Its construction is much the same way you'd make a medieval wooden tankard. Hope this helps for future builds!

What an awesome video! When I made my own Kirby hammer a few years back, I took the easy route and made it out of laser cut cardboard. After seeing the hell you went through getting a wood version done, I think I made the right choice lol, high school me would have had a rough time making a wood hammer

Oh my god it's usable! How on earth did you clean it??
Luckily the paint/finish I used on it makes it kinda stain resistant, so cleaning it wasn't too much of an issue!

I actually built a Minecraft sword a while back for a video but like you said: it was very tricky and I wasn't satisfied enough with it to release it. Maybe I'll revisit the idea sometime!

not to be that guy but according to (*insert source here i don't remember but, its from one of the games*), the Hammer that Kirby uses in smash (and, when using the Copy Ability), it's said to be either Dedede's Hammer or a Replica. In short terms, it is actually **Dedede's** Hammer. Regardless, this is amazing ✌
