Thanks for the video. I'd like to see more scenarios from this box or even this system. Nice and short, maybe do a turn or two to show the mechanics.

You’re in luck, I plan to do the Battle of Dara as a video here in the next month or so as part of a series on the end of Roman antiquity. I’ll try to do some quick snapshot of mechanics as I play.

Hi, I just found your channel. I enjoyed this; I'd like to see more from Cataphract as well as Chariots of Fire (especially the Sumer / Sargon scenario... though it seems like that has to be a speculative OB).

Thanks! Sadly I traded away my copy of Chariots of Fire a couple months ago as it’s probably my least favorite GBoH game. I will definitely be doing more Cataphract this summer for sure, maybe even a play through of Justinian as well.

Hope to see you show more games from this period of history. I feel WWII is pretty dominant in the wargaming hobby but that era doesn't interest me very much.

That’s the plan! I’ve got a couple more WWI options in the queue that I’m going to tackle soonish: Somme 1918 and Offensive a Outrance among them.

Their is a series of books called military history of late Rome by a finish author ILKKA SYVANNE published by pen and sword. Several volumes each with a date time stamp covering the years covered (I.e. 361-395) Just started to read the volume that covers this period right now the early Byzantine time frame. It covers quite a bit all the major happenings blow by blow during the time frame of each volume. He will highlight some of the Armies their organizations and fighting style….before detailing events. It contains a lot of the political happenings and has details on the major battles to a fair degree…there are works by other authors that go in more depth on certain battles than these volumes if one wants a deeper analysis of course. But any rate…if it’s a period one likes to read more in depth on…and one need not read every volume to follow…if your interest is specifically into certain period of years…get the corresponding volume. Great video also.

Thanks for the recommendation. It is one of my favorite periods of history so more reading is always welcome.

The only GBOH I have played (and own) is Conquest of Gaul, which has been really fun to solo but has a horribly written rulebook. My FLGS has this and also the reprint of SPQR. They're pricey given UK import prices but I'm tempted to pick up one of them...not that I'd ever find an opponent but if they're anything like CoG they'll be fun solo.

The SPQR Deluxe reprint has so much value in it, you could play that game almost forever. Personally, my historical interest lies in post-476 Eastern Rome more than classical Rome (plus Cataphract comes with the strategic Justinian game in the box, which is a nice change of pace), but ultimately you can’t go wrong with either.
