I can’t understand what the fascination is with the percussion section at one of the most exciting parts of a piano concerto, from a pianist’s viewpoint. Many videographers cut to the tympany at this climactic moment. Just don’t get it.

Every time I listen to the ossia cadenza I become so emotional. I am glad that a number of Asian pianists can handle this so well, of course including my favourite Yeol Eum.
Asians who are good at things have driven themselves to get to that point. My Asian students here in Australia generally humbled me. If you are a musician of this calibre it wouldn't have mattered where you came from.

The highest order with human intelligence at its most refine level is on display here. The invention of the atomic bomb is an absolute mediocrity compared to it. Beautiful music, great pianist and excellent musicians with an attentive conductor. Cannot ask more to give a good appreciation of what humans can be and do sometime in the crazy world we have to live in unfortunately.
Steinway's sound is famous for being loud and clean. Yamaha makes a beautiful, dreamy sound, but it's not good because the sound is buried in other instruments of the concert because it makes a little bit of a dull sound.
btw, conductor is horrible. no feel for the pianist whatsoever. never together with the pianist at end of phrases. at the end always looking at the left, like right part of the orchestra is not existing. no emotions, no excitement. this guy should be fired or retired. simply pathetic attitude to his job!

Yamaha is not good for you to perform Rachmaninoff. But it's a fine piano, and with Yeol Eum Son playing it, it's still better!
