When you leave it in a tank museum, not a hard accomplishment, the irony is that its not a German Museum, the last Tiger is in the British Museum. I call that cultural appropriation, those British should know better, lol.... The best German tank was the mark IV, an already reliable tank, got up-gunned to the really good 75 mm canon, but instead they wanted a Panther, pfff... Should have produced 10-15 thousand Tiger's and 50-70 thousand Panzer Mark IV, but they did not. The best tanks of the war was the Panzer Mark IV, T-34-85 and the Sherman, they all did their job.

@@datpudding5338 you’re out of your damn mind. Until recent years I’ve only heard small fragments about the t34 but growing up even as young as 5 years old I’d hear adults and old people talking about the tiger and ONLY the tiger with some mentioning of the churchills and Sherman’s. Never once was the T34 ever admired or bragged about. Maybe only in commie land was the piece of shit ever talked about. Or you come from a communist descendent family that hates freedom and America and with that the only suggestion I have for you is, A: go fuck yourself you commie bastard. And B: get the fuck out of the USA, and go back to commie land Russia, back to a war torn poor ass country.

@@austinbaker6295 not in America but from the way you argue right now the only thing you achieve is to further degrade the reputation of an average American down to the stereotype of the "ignorant douche"
Pretty much any country that's not the US does indeed mention or at least acknowledge the T-34. People with your overly eager drive for patriotism actually make me hate Americans a little bit more every time.
You talk like the US was the only place on earth that exists and is not communist (at this point you probably have the same crooked definition for that as is common almost exclusively in the US).
Fix your personal lack of education about the world and other countries perspectives before opening your mouth. Wouldn't be embarrassing your country, countrymen and yourself.
America is not the end all be all. Accept that. And your own personal anecdotal evidence doesn't really add anything, you're just one guy from one country while my sample size is bigger and more internationally spread.
If you literally just wanted "to show those filthy communists" - which would explain why it seems like just that - there's places for that. Just because you as a single person have an opinion doesn't mean that anyone except you cares.
You know, especially because of people like you there is this meme around „yes, ameriCAN but ameriSHOULDN'T“. Sure you can write a slur that except for two sentences doesn't even match the topic but should you really if you have actually nothing to say?

      +Jake Deane Not necissarily.
See many Tigers were driven by aces of the Wehrmacht, while the Tiger 2 was a last-ditch effort to stop the American invasion after all their experienced tank commanders had either been killed or had retired.
Not to mention the Tiger 2 was a very very slow tank, and surprise wasn't exactly it's strong point.
And the armor that the late-war Sherman's used (Firefly, Jumbo, Easy Eight, etc)
Was more than capable of deflecting an 88mm shell, while the 76mm gun shared between them could penetrate the side armor of a Tiger 2.
In short, American paratroopers, masters of ambush and speed, plus upgraded tanks, versus a slower, bigger albeit more armored variant of a tank they have already learned to defeat.

By 3 August 1942, this Tiger had covered a total of 1046 km; by 31 March 1943 a total of 5623 km; and by 31 July 1943 a total of 7736 km.These figures clearly demonstrate that once the Tiger had overcome its teething troubles, it could withstand a lot of purposefully administered abuse during test programmes.
The sPzAbt 501 noted in Combat Report No.6 dated 3 May 1943:
Regarding the overheating engines, the HL 210 engine caused no troubles during the recent time. All occurring breakdowns resulted from the low quality of driver training. In several cases engine failures have to be put down to the missing remote engine thermometer. Five engines have reached more than 3,000 km without essential failures. A good driver is essential for the successful deployment of the Tiger, he must have a good technical training and has to keep his nerve in critical situations…[83]
…The most remarkable aspect of the recent combat was that the Tiger could still be deployed after covering a 400 km run… This proved that the Tiger can easily keep pace with lighter tanks. Nobody expected this.
The 13.(Tiger) Kompanie/Panzer-Regiment Großdeutschland reported on their experience in employing the Tiger from 7 to 19 March 1943:
With the exception of known childhood diseases, the Pz.Kpfw. VI has proven itself to be good. Already, it can be said that its reliability is superior to the Pz.Kpfw.III and IV. When routine care and maintenance are accomplished (that means one day for maintenance for three days in action), even the way it is now, the Tiger can achieve exceptional success.
To put that in perspective in 1943 the Churchill was good for 500 miles, The t34 needed a new enginen every 300 to 400km

Seeing this Tiger (131) in person is really a shock. In pictures and video these "rolling vaults" look big enough, but in person these machines are massive. I'm an equipment operator, so I deal with heavy steel, but these things were built to withstand other tank guns, when they rattle by the ground rumbles. I was stunned at how big 131 is, especially after seeing a few revamped Shermans and thinking they were big. So, thinking about setting nervously in another tank and seeing this monster appear, realizing it was going to start shooting at you, well, all I can say is that Allied tank crews must have been the bravest souls I can imagine. If anyone seeing this video gets a chance to visit Bovington during one of their "Axis Armor" shows, it's worth the trip, these old tanks are very impressive, regardless of what side they were used by. Cheers.

Side by side there is not much visible difference in size.. the only real difference is design.. the Tiger is much more advanced than the Sherman by at least a decade in terms of technology.. the Tiger was the first true MBT (Main Battle Tank) and would not look that out of place on today's battlefield. cheers!

    • @jrus690
      @jrus690 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

Columns of these were rare, but the veterans always talk about them so they became the go to. In France, Mark 2 and Czech tanks were the deal. In early USSR campaign Mark III's and short barreled Mark IV. Mark IV got upgraded to 75 mm for T-34 requirements during and after 1942. North Africa was Mark III, then Mark IV. At Prokarovka (Kursk), Mark IV and a few Panthers. Tiger was used in all mid 1942 and after theatres, but it was mostly shock value, used too much fuel and too slow for the rapid combined arms stuff. it was not really brought in with tank fighting and Blitzkrieg in mind, more for bunkers and stuff. Tanks were supposed for attack rear echelon stuff, not tank for tank, they were supposed to be used for rapid advance, hit the rear, take control logistics, bridges, airfields, supply depots, railroads, show up far beyond where they were supposed to be.

    • @LarS1963

      TheFilipinoCharmeleon
Yes, because the Western Allied didn't produce heavy tanks - aside from the Churchill - and they were - aside from the Sherman Firefly - seriously undergunned.
On the Eastern front the Tiger was a folly, that only had succes, because after it was introduced, the Germans mostly fought a defensive war. It was to heavy for the roads and bridges on large parts of the Eastern Front. Even the IS-2 didn't weigh more than 45 tonnes, where as this beast weighed more than 55 tonnes. If the Germans had been on the offensive, it wouldn't have been possible for these tanks to keep up.
Finally, an army on the defensive should build up rather impressive kill ratios, if they know what they are doing. EG in -41, one dug in KV-tank held up the advance of the entire army-group north for three days! And destroyed a ridiculous amount of equipment in the process.

Milwaukee Road E75 Their idea of making a tank "Add more armor here, here, and here... and here..... .......more here... k more there... now here... ....... ......double up on all of it"
Then they added a nicely sized cannon and boom, tanks that couldn't die.
      But terrible engine, terrible mileage.

I like American tanks...but man....the Tiger I....this tank out of ALL other tanks....always gave me fear...ALWAYS... Such an impressive monster of fine machinery. That 88 it has pointing at you makes you think...."Oh dear god....better say goodbye boys, we're done already." The Tiger I was known to be the most feared, powerful tank during its time. Of course other better tanks came out during WW2...but none of them ever got the high popularity of the Mighty Tiger....the Tiger DEFINITELY has my respect for it.
