- A rare chance to see what it's like inside a running Tiger 1. The clip shows a short test run of Tiger 131 at the Tank Museum in Bovington, England. The 23 litre Maybach engine is now running superbly after a total rebuild by specialists at SdKfz in May 2006.
Many thanks to the guys at Bovington for permitting the inside of this tank to be filmed and broadcast.
the guy driving this thing has the best job in the history of jobs
Even to this day
I feel like not at war though haha one well placed shot he's fcked haha maybe ..
Happy to be corrected ofc

@@Transgender-ProphetMohammed 🙄 imagine being told to grow up by a guy called Transgender Prophet 😆🤦 maybe take your own advice 🤷
That engine windup in 1:30..... Pure magic
Best and most beautiful tank ever
No, Tiger II is. It has curves in all the right places.
But the Panther has the curves, the beauty, and the brains!
MrLegodude159 but the tiger 2 has armor and is called a king.

Thx UK that you take care about this beautifull Tank 🇩🇪🇬🇧👏
That sound is incredible, I can't imagine how frightening it was to hear on the battlefield.
When I'm feeling down and depressed I watch this. It always brings me back !!!
Wow, thx guys to share that moment, my grandfather was in a tank-divisions in WWII and he sometimes talked about that really powerfull Tiger-Tank. Now i could imagine, what he meant. In fact he was in the panzergrenadierdivision Grossdeutschland. From ´43 Zitadelle at kursk up to the eastern front in 45 at Danzig. But i guess, the Tiger was a frightened thing to every enemy at all... He was just heavy and slow, but armed with such a big gun...
Long live the Mighty Tiger.
That's right, we were already out by the time the rain came.
I think that I was the only one inside that got wet simply because I wouldn't drive with the hatch shut as it'd be completely dark in there. For American Armour day, we got the turret and internal lights working so were able to drive closed down and operate the turret. Quite an experience!
The early Tiger's were fully submersible with only a crew/engine snorkel pipe visible above the water.
Very nice video. Its very interesting to take a look inside of the tank!
02:00 ...the car-driver's reaction in the background = "WHAT THE F...?!" :D
Wow, the sound is outstanding. Its one thing to see pictures out of the past but hear this sound out of the past like this is special. I remember talking to a WWII vet and he told me that when he was in France and he heard the enemy tanks he was especially sick to his stomach because he know how deadly those beast were. I could only try to imagine what he was experiencing. This helps me understand better.
Off the scale cool! I would love to have the honor of driving this tank. I'm so glad I donated to its restoration.
Even after all these years this is still an impressive machine. Imagine what it was like to be a soviet or alled tanker and encounter one. Of course there were never many. I think that a lot of allied troops thought that the mark 4 was a tiger because they do look alike especially if they scare the crap out of you and are coming towards you firing.
3:06 Oh man look at that beast charge by all the puny little cars.
Can you imagine sitting in your Smart Car and seeing a Tiger coming straight at you? I think I might lose control of my bowels.
@@infledermaus hahaha
I have followed this tank from restoration, engine rebuild till now. Awesome to see she is in running condition again.
10/10 would bang but armor is too thick
+Panzer Faust Bang from behind... but you still need company though
Panzer Faust it was thicc
if saw thise tank driving down the road i might shit my pants
When I see this i'm proud to be german :D
Im American, but I can imagine. I am obsessed w all German WW2 military tech but especially German WW2 tanks
That sound! Actually recognisable from the games so many of us play
Now my main question is......CAN IT STILL FIRE!
yes it could but they have no shells if you watch the movie *FURY* they used special movie fake shells
Nice job to keep the tanks "alive". History couldn't be more living and one can get even a little autentic feel about soldiers life in WW2.
What about a movie about Kurt Knispel instead then? He was a panzer ace in the whermacht who actually destoyed more tanks than Wittman (believed to be as high as 195 tanks destroyed) though he was never awarded the knights cross because of several incidents including assaulting an Einsatzgruppen officer whom he saw mistreating Soviet POWs.
Sure is a privilege to see this in operation. :)
Amazing, especially when it's being driven through the rain storm. Although a design that's approaching 70 years, it still looks like it can destroy almost anything modern.
Hats off to those who have preserved and restored this amazing piece of history!
Amazing experience. I would love to do this!
the noise inside the tank... imagine that for hours & hours in combat.
nice piece of history & German engineering
Awesome....LOVE THE SOUND...POWER!!
What an immaculate restoration! Even the interior (from what we can see in the video) looks brand new.
The Tiger was one of the first Tanks ever to be able to drive trough buildings or knock down bigger trees.. whilst the T-34 or Sherman would fail at such
good luck trying to get it out of a mud pit :P
Uhm M4 Sherman and T-34 could charge through mud or even go into a building too buddy.
if i remember correctly, then the wide tracks of the Tiger (and tiger II even.. the maus as well) meant that they had more evenly spread out pressure to the ground, the ground pressure of the Tiger, Tiger II and Maus were all lower than that of a sherman.
so in theory the big german cats and Maus would all be able to traverse soft ground were a sherman would get stuck.
belive the americans once got flanked from a route belive to be in-accesable by german tanks because the ground was too soft for thier shermans.
This is still the best video of tiger 131 on TH-cam I think! The inside view of the driver and the sounds are awesome!
I guess a Tiger Tank automatically gets to turn first at intersections.
It is a little roomier in the driver's compartment than I expected. I wonder what they do for things like replacing tracks. You can't exactly order them online I'd assume.
I never understood why the tank designers made the sides at right angles either. You'd think they'd slope the armor a least a little.
It was designed before they realised of the advantages of sloped armour
Blown Fox Not saying you are wrong as I am no expert on the issue, but the Soviet T-34 had sloped armor and that came before the Tiger tank didn't it?
Correct, the russians discovered the advantages of sloped armour before anyone else
The Germans were really stunned when they came up against the T-34s when they first invaded Russia. They had thought that the Russians would be incredibly backwards in terms of such things. Particularly ironic was that the Russians generally were far more poorly trained than the Germans, yet had the better tank for some time.
Federico Longoni Actually no. Sloping armor allows for a smaller amount of material with greater potential for protection. The Panther's front armor was 80mm thick, but due to the slope it was something more like 120-130mm effectively. It's sides were 40mm, but due to the sloping, it was something more equivalent to 80-100mm.
That's why, despite the fact that the Panther is actually a larger tank than the Tiger (yes. It actually is.), it weighed 20 tons less.
Driving that tank even in WW2 must of been the best experience ever. You knew no matter what was going on around you, you were safe. Nothing could stop that tank in the early stages of the war, Sherman rounds would literally bounce off like nothing, you almost feel invincible
Mechanical issues, reliability, and fuel were some of its biggest issues with this tank. Nonetheless, when someone brings up the problems this beast has, you should know that every WWII machine had issues, even the Shermans. Still, this tank is so goated
CAN I HAVE A GO.
Amazing video of the legendary Tiger, also i bet the guy operating got a big smile on his face while driving the tiger. also the engine sounds amazing.
I just love the engine sound :). Makes me get goosebumps.
Nice that she still has her combat tracks on. Not only lethal, a simply fearsome looking machine.
Perfect vid for me. I was searching for great sounds of the Tigers Maybach and finally sound them all at once! Thx.
visited the Tiger this week, and the engine is our for repair. Talked to the guys at the museum, and they have some difficulty with some filter parts for the engine.
Thay was now sure the Tiger was able to be running at the tankfest 2011 in june
cheers
Steen
The enginesound! its so so so beautiful! The sound of destruction and doom!
My grandpa had seen a Tiger taking out 4 Shermans. The Shermans had no change, all the shells richochet. Wonderfull piece og German engineering. My 100% respect
Damn these things are fun too watch, and even more fun to listen to.
The sound of dat engine, dem treads.
The tiger is nothing less than majestic. So great to see one of these running.
Thanks for the info , and thanks for the video. I never thought I´d live to see these babies on the move. Thumbs up on the restoration!!
What an amazing job on the restoration, truly a magnificent machine. I hope they get some more donations to keep it going.
That maybach engine has a lovelly sound, i love the t-34, but i must recognize, the tiger was phenomenal.
awsome video, great job on the restauration of a beautiful tank.
great respect for the people who make this happen and keep a part of mankind history up and running.
Been looking for this, still one of the best tiger vids ever.
What a superb video. I never thought I'd ever hear a Tiger under its own power. Just awe inspiring. Now refuel and re-arm her and on to Downing Street!
65 years old tank, and everything working perfectly, just amazing. What about rubber in engine seals, not get "old" and start leaking ?
I love it when the tank backs out of the garage, It's so EPIC!!!!!
"Dear, a tank just drove by us"
"Don't be silly, there's no such..."
"Dear lord!"
Christmas day and i'm looking at a tiger tank!
Fantastic
17 year old video, camera quality of the day, but still exciting!
yes, people often confuse the panther with the tiger, and while that tank had it's issues, it was mosly the light engine block and assembly that caused them to break down.
Nice vid,
The sounds inside while it is running gives you the reson theyall wore headsets to talk and hear.
Fantastic! Thanks for sharing, and greets from the Netherlands!
Omg...off the charts, awesome Tiger, l love it.....
What a beautiful piece of death machinery the Tiger I is.
I love the sounds tanks make so much.
Beautiful piece of machinery.
What a beast, well worth keeping in restored condition.
Wonderful to see and hear a German Tiger tank operating! Now, let's see it fire off a round!
Your comment is strangely true, my dad gave us WW2 yarns about tigers coming down the road in Italy! Everything the allies had went straight in reverse when these suckers came at you!
Tigers are semi-auto (pre-select). It's essentially an automated manual box in that you select the next gear that you want and tell it when to shift. Hydraulics then press the clutch, change gear then release the clutch. Pretty high-tech for its time. Panther/PZ3/Stug etc are manual.
Being from NE Ohio, that rain looked so familiar. I think I would feel right at home in England!
holy shit this is the best tiger video ive ever seen!
you rock
Now that's how a main battle tank is suposed to look like.
one of the worlds best looking tanks!
thanks a lot for posting this.
I always see tank destroyers as part of the big "tank family" .
Panther ,Tiger II designs were great ones :)
The beautifulest tank ever.
what beauty, certainly my favorite tank in the world.
Interesting, I actually didn't know it had a steering wheel. For some reason, I imagined levers of some sorts, to control each track (not like, 2 separate giant levers, but some sort of lever system though).
It's funny to read/hear people talk recently how bad of a tank this was. But the Germans were outnumbered heavily, so creating a massive powerhouse like this -imo- makes sense (within desperate war-time limits, some refinements like sloped armor could have been made).
That's amazing. I would kill to go to Bovington or Kubinka. It would be brilliant to see this machine running.
If my knowledge of history serves me correct, this tank was captured by British troops in North Africa when it was left abandoned because the turret got stuck and Churchill ordered that the tank be transported to Britain.
War is hell but some people must of had fun driving these.
Everything about that tank screams DEADLY.
There is indeed one running Panther in the US. It's part of Jaques Littlefield's incredible collection.
Thankyou, at last someone who knows the facts about the tiger.
OMFG! Tankgasm!! I hope I someday will get the honor of riding in a thank like that
I love that I can legally own a tank here in the states. (The gun has to be disabled, for obvious reasons) But unfortunately I don't think Henschel has anymore of these in stock.
I couldnt imagine what my grandpa felt having one of these bearing down on his position in real life.
Really really interesting, in particoular the part inside the tank...great!
This is the only working tiger tank in the world rn & it was used in the movie, "FURY"
1. Awesome to see this, gets the adrenalin pumping!
2. Imagine taking this thing down to the pub to get a pint?
final battle of saving private ryan where you could hear the tigers approaching. awesome, fearsome noise.
What an amazing sight and sound, if there is one vehicle in the World I'd ever love to drive its a Tiger tank,
All three of them needed each other in fact.
you all should try too visit this place, very intresting exhibits on display, regardstom.
Great video. Keep them rolling!
the most badass ride there ever was or ever will be... hell's angels' got nothin on the tiger!
such a magnificent beast,
got to to have one of those
My uncle was a Cpt in the 1st Armored Div in WW2 and he said that he had nightmares 30 years later about seeing these tanks coming at them. He said that they scared the crap out of everyone when they appeared and opened up with that 88mm. To engage a Tiger in open ground was suicide. He said that the known weak spots were the side armor and the rear, But if the Tiger saw you before you could shoot at it you were done.
Beautifully handling of the gears. It was a common problem in the end of the war with inexperienced crews (esp drivers) which couldn´t handle the demanding vehicle, resulting in gearbox-crashes and engine failure, halting in combat aso. The loss of experienced crews were a major setback and probably a reason why the germans couldn´t use the full potential of their tanks.
I liked how at 3:08 it set off the car alarm. Must have scared the poor little thing.
I couldn't imagine twenty or thirty of these advancing on you! What an awesome piece of Armour History...When is some one going to use this tank in a movie about Micheal Wittman? How cool would that be?
I love the sound the engine makes when he floors it, sounds like a fucking t-rex!
3:00 with the rain is even more impressive
