Don Rickles is my favourite comedian ever! There is no one like this hilarious man! I love him so much. His routines and his presence on the Dean Martin Roasts made each show so much better. Miss you Don.

Love the Dean Martin roasts from Rickles to the funny Foster Brooks

You mean hilarious. He has a I think it's 40 minute stand up special that's on TH-cam called Don't Laugh You're Next. Some of the jokes have a nice little story before the punchline but they're all worth the wait. Man it was funny.

The thing about those great Dean Martin Celebrity Roasts--and Don was a professional roaster--was that people on the stage genuinely loved and respected one another while they were "destroying" each other, and that came through during the roasts. As Sammy Davis, Jr. put it during his closing speech at his own roast, "The day they stop making fun of you is the day they don't give a damn about you"--or something close to that.

Don Rickles is hilarious, he is probably my favorite comedian. His humor transcends generations. My grandparents loved him, my mom loves him, and both my daughter and I love him too..:)

It was always such a special time when those roasts aired .
I was 10 years old in 1972 to give you an idea of that time in my life . I sure wish the two I used to watch the roasts, Carol Burnette and Sanford and Son ect were around today to laugh together again .

The Dean Martin Roasts wouldn't have been the same without Don as his snide sense of humour was priceless & he always cracked up the other celebs & they took it. We are losing the greats now & not many are left from those roasts or the golden years of Hollywood.

These roasts worked not just because of the amazing talent that were on them, the likes of which we will never see again, but also because nobody took offence to the jokes, insults, etc. They were all in fun. They laughed at each other and together. These roasts would probably not be able to air today. Sad.

Sad is the perfect description of the times we're living in now. Never thought this country would turn out like this , I'm glad I grew up back then!

One of the reasons that the roasts worked so well is that the remarks, though sometimes sharper than a razor, the language was clean and not going for a cheap foul language laugh. The panelists were are people of well known standing by the vast majority of citizenry and were all willing to take part and enjoy the moment.
I've watched some of the roasts on HBO or Comedy Central and I have no idea of who some of panelists are and the remarks made are sometimes way below the belt and outright offensive; not poking fun as these Dean Martin roasts were.

In this day and age people would probably get all get offended and have a fit, no decent sense of humor. They were the last of the greatest.

How were all these great people able to make a joke, without using any vulgar words? Compare them to today’s roasts, and the new ones lost me at the second sentence of the first performer… It’s only f-this, f-that, etc. Back then, during the Dean Martin roasts, there was not a single usage of any vulgar words, and yet they were extremely funny!

Actually, Jack Benny was, in fact, cheap. In one of his tax returns, it was disclosed that he earned $1 million from performance fees and $28.17 from recycled bottles.
