I am not sure whether the SAF is really forward looking with the people being paid excessively for a career that has been needlessly extended (especially the MDES scheme) and where without significant real crisis to deal with, are preoccupied with organisational change at the every hierarchy all the time. In my view, the SAF is really pulled along by 5% of the scholars (which must create impactful events such as the new DIS to preserve their legacy) kept functioning by 30% of well motivated soldiers (mainly monetary motivation) and dragging the rest of the deadwoods that are just milking the opaque system. As an end note, the IAF has one of the best digital and intelligence capabilities in the world without the need for an independent service. They have service personnel with deep domain knowledge without requiring our MDES scheme with extended military career. In fact for the IAF, retirement is 40 years old to 45 years old depending on the rank and only senior position can serve pass 45 years old. we ought to rethink the way we run the SAF.
