    We remind ourselves every day
    Each and every year
    To honour those who gave their lives
    Defending what we hold dear.
    In our dark and deadly covid war,
    Their scars prove and remind us,
    Our brave Singaporeans gave their all
    To put danger far behind us.
    They made the supreme sacrifice
    Fighting for the Singaporean way;
    We admire them and respect them
    On each and every day.🙏

    most scholars in SAF are thinkers n strategists,, hence many said they are paper generals,, not wrong though, dun they employed them for such in the first place ??

    I've worked with some of these ex colonels/generals before. Always get parachuted in as directors in stat boards even though they have ZERO knowledge of the sector they are in. They can't seem to understand their golden days from SAF is long over. One of them literally asked everyone in the office to call him by "appointment" (The organisation I was attached to calls their own director by name but dude was enforcing OTHER ministries to call him "director".). He forgot half of Singapore don't serve NS and effectively embarrassed himself when a female staff asked, "What is appointment?" Even those who served NS don't have to "respect" their old rank in SAF, out here we are all civilians.
    Those really competent ones don't need to depend on ah gong to parachute them in one. They have coveted degrees from top universities like Harvard or Cambridge afterall, really good ones would get headhunted by MNCs and earn bigger bucks elsewhere. These people are just lazy and incompetent, in SAF screw people over act like god then parachute to stat boards to show face here and there then retire rich. Their pattern Singapore see so many decades already... no change to system and then wonder why Singaporeans hesitate to work in Public Service, especially sign on...

    Generals can talk alot when they have abundance of resources via taxpayers’ money. They have never faced the problem of resource scarcity because everything is made available to them easily. This is also why I noticed patterns of complacency in public sector employees because resource abundance also mean iron rice bowl for them. But MNC, SMEs are different because they need to think of how to get sales revenue to stay relevant. People who work in private sector albeit some black horses, are still an edge above people who work in public sector

    Normally our generals are safos scholars which is a class of the psc scholarship program. Through their career they'll go through a multi-ministry track starting and ending in SAF (it is unlikely for them to spend their whole career in SAF). So when they retire from military service, they will likely have the experience needed to manage other sectors, although some of them still carry their military habits with them. So to simply call them ex-saf is rather close minded, ex-government sector is more appropriate.

    Why do people keep saying Paper Generals? In my viewpoint, not many officers or generals around the world have gone to war. If you want a General who is experienced in warfare, then we have to declare war, but on who? You want us to go to war? Do you want us to drop our neutrality if we have to engage in a conflict somewhere else? Officers are meant to lead and strategies, not pick up a rifle and run into the battlefield. Our current generals have likely shown that they are capable of leading and that is what they are supposed to do. If you want experienced generals, then we have to go to war, then we all going to suffer, our army is going to be deployed, and many of us will die. Do you not want the peace that we are having now? Do you think you can do better? These are only my thoughts, I could be wrong.

    • @bierdlll
      @bierdlll ปีที่แล้ว

      The term Paper Generals does not refer to the lack of combat experience. It refers to SAF generals who are parachuted to lead ministries and organizations, with zero real-world experience in that particular sector or industry. No track record, no experience, no knowledge of the industry or what is happening on the ground. No accountability too, because nothing happens when they screw up the organization, e.g. Desmond Kuek as CEO of SMRT.

    • @ek6710
      @ek6710 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bierdlll Ah I see. My idea of Paper Generals was different. However, yes, I agree with you. I do not exactly agree that our Generals should be just dropped into high positions in other sectors. They have been in the military for so many years and that is what they are best in, not doing other work that might not be even in their degrees. The only thing I can see useful is that they might be able to coordinate workers, but that's it

    • @user-ks7er6kp6s

      No hands on? Oh so to be a good general, need to have combat experience? So declare war? Find conlfict? You clearly are clueless to what military should be about. The fact that these generals remain as paper generals, means that ur country aint facing any wars.
