"One less tank hero will make the game simpler." -Devs who also designed Overwatch for 5 years under the fundamental idea of No Hero Limits
6v6 No Hero Limits and then thought releasing Brig as is was a good idea and balanced and kept it like that for ages. Yes, that team. With role q it's even worse when you look at OWL, then you notice how unbalanced this game is because 99% of games are judt the same comps

As a veteran Tank player I don't like at all the 5v5, now tank is just counterpicking and there is none to cover you unlike the other roles.

Genuinely the counter swapping required of tank in ow2 is why I no longer play tank outside of the goofy gamemodes. It's way too stressful and too much hinges on you doing the right thing at the right moment, but props to you for sticking with it for so long.
It has become a really solitary and sad role, you're alone by yourself because probably your team is more like a kindergarden of bronze players meanwhile you're platinum.
@@SoyMoqueta personally I'm pleased, in overwatch 1 I got nothing but roadhog 1 tricks that flamed the team for not doing enough meanwhile I'm busting my ass trying to keep them and everyone else safe, this game I can say hi to someone and they will follow me like their life depends on it, because now it does and there's no roadhog to get in my way outside of the ones in the last roadhog meta
@@gregnog8119 Now is the same but with an entire team of braindead monkeys.

@@vopcracker3193 Flats has done a lot to criticize this game, specially recently…but he’s also like a lot of us who spend our entire lives playing blizzard games just to bitch and complain about blizzard games.
I feel like they shouldve kept 2 tanks but just less shield because now it's just counterswap into the same few tanks
i liked the experimental mode where tanks had extra hp but slightly reduced damage. I think that would've been the way to go
@@VoltismProductions The problem with tanks having less damage is that they're less imposing in teamfights, which just leads to dps or whoever just walking past them and easily killing the backline. It also makes it harder to take space as a tank because of the same reason.
@@socomical607 but that also means tanks are taking less damage from enemy tanks and can survive easier. They're still going to do a decent amount to dps
@@VoltismProductions I'm telling you that if tanks did less damage, they would practically not exist, especially brawl heroes like Rein. They would just be cannon fodder even if they take more damage to kill. There's a reason they didn't go through with that experimental. It was a terrible idea. If they were to nerf their damage, they'd have to increase their survivability and buff their CC and utility by a huge margin, which would not be fun for anyone involved.
Literally said that but it's like people don't remember the old days of Overwatch where it wasn't shield meta, no sigma, no orsia, fucking sym was still a support, foomdist never existed, and handjob fired entire trees at people.
You can't even think about picking Dva without instantly seeing the good ole Zarya Sym Moira Mei Zen/Brig comp
0:00 when the helicopter takes off
Honestly, as a support player I feel so bad for tanks. Not swaping to counter someone is throwing the game and I think it's unfair to tank players. Like some people just wanna play their fav tank and that's it and that on it's own is fine until your whole team relies on you to swap. Like sometimes you will just have to swap but with only one tank your required to do so more than you would have in the past
Yeah, as a tank player, it's painfull to hear your supports say that you need to swap when it's the 7th time their entire comp changed to remove you from the game. Pick Winton or ball ? Automatic Zen, Sombra, reaper.
@Nakimé Yeah, well, I mean, it honestly just takes all the fun out of the game. Getting hard countered every second isn't fun for anyone. I really wish they'd bring back the second tank, not only would it make team comps more interesting, especially with new tanks like Ramattra, it would just make the game feel better and not make it one person's fault for loosing all because they wanted to play a character they are comfortable with and enjoy playing
I just want funi hammer man or funi robot man, I dont want my entire game to be "hey they have a doom, I'll switch. . . . well shoot"
i've noticed lately that whenever i flex in qp literally the only role i ever get is tank. people genuinely just do not want to play tank considering how much of the game relies on you performing well and not making mistakes. the other roles allow wiggle room due to having another person to pick up the slack, but tank requires you to essentially carry the entire weight of that position on your back. die as tank? your team has lost the teamfight. that's it.
That's pretty much my exp in comp since forever.
The tank has to compensate for every weakness the team has be it bad dps or healers and shoulder 95% of the responsibility,
i find myself relaxed and having more fun when im playing dps/support, tank is just too stressful and requires you to literally be on your high senses 24/7
I got supports today. Yesterday dps and tank. Maybe its just your mmr.
@@bui3415 mmr isn't really that important in qp
And the constant swapping from the 2 DPS + Tank to destroy whichever tank you pick, bonus points if they throw in a Zen discord orb on your face so you don't get to play the game.
All of this in Quickplay of all places!

I used to love duo tanking. Now there is only 1 tank. I used to play what i felt to play at the moment. And performed better with that heroes just because i enjoyed it. Now im forced to play something i don't want to play if i wanna have a slightly better chance to win. Still ejoy playing dva but im getting tired of the game.
Im surprised to see so many people say they dislike playing Tank because its stressful to have so much hinge on you.
I think that feeling is great, people already look to the tank for leadership, you really do be the big man.
Lmao I can be dominating as DVA or Sigma, and then the enemy tank will counterpick to zarya. I don't counterpick unless the enemy tank does, so then I'll go Rein. Then they'll go Rammatra. Then I'll go back to DVA. And it's just an annoying endless loop.
The most hilarious part is when some people say in chat: “oh wow, picking counters, looser”.
I mean, i want to win, lmao
Why the hell are people saying looser instead of loser these days? You’re not tying a knot right?
Its at that exact moment that you know they were a one trick two tricks max in OW1 and the copium is hitting all time highs for them. Don't even consider it an insult these days.
You tried to fast track your way to the top by only focusing on learning one hero while I had to grind cause I was learning multiple heroes? Tough luck

@@pastromer8552 why? It's not exactly fun to be getting rolled either you know. Better than just leaving the match
Saw Samito say this as well but 6v6 was better. Blizzard just couldn't balance it properly because they didn't understand core principles of their own game. Counterswapping was way less necessary and there were so much more different unique synergies within the game. I was a tank main since OW1 launch and i haven't touched the role since season 1. I just realised that there is absolutely nothing better about OW2 now.
I switched tank main in ow2 cuz i just love the new brawly style they gave the rest of them, but man, I am so tired of being the sole tank, the sole reason game loses cuz funny man made me disappear with a hole in the ground
I like that flats still uses the guru crosshair
Honestly, maybe the guru was right and flats has been converted
Tank and DPS definitely feel like Counterwatch. Support is the only role that feels like you can get away with staying on the same pick the whole game. Probably part of the reason why support is the most popular role atm. Ult charge on Hero swap needs to go ASAP cuz it just turns the game into constant counter picks, and it just isn't fun.
Yeah, Tank is definitely has become an odd role. For the most part, youre a bullet sponge/blocker for your team, but sometimes you have to be DPS instead. Ive had various games where i have to be Rein/Sigma in order to have my team push, because they literally need a shield in front of them. Other times i have to be Ramattra or Dva, because my team cant get any kills or are struggling with a shield Tank. I wont even mention quickplay, cause ive been seeing alot of 3 tanks teams running around, but once i see 2 tanks, i either go Zen or ask for someone to go Zen
It's all counterbased now. They have a queen, you need Ana's nade.
They have Ball or Orisa, you need Sombra
not to mention a kiri for queen aswell. both with and against.
It's always been that way though
@@mintygreen8618yeah but way less pronounced. With only one tank if you their whole team counters you, you just throw of you don't swap. And it's a constant back and forth. Before with two tanks you could synergize well enough to not have to keep going back and forth counters swapping
Isn't that the point of the game?
I do have to wonder how often the "It's a game mechanic" people actually play tank. It's almost impossible to try to learn a tank even in Quickplay because half of the enemy team is swapping to deal with specifically you the moment they think you're winning.
Not saying it would have worked, but I wish they at least tried 6v6 with more refined roles for all 6 teammates. For example:
Shield tank
Off tank
Hit Scan DPS
Projectile DPS
Main heal
Off heal
Problem is there were too many DPS, so reworking Doomfist to tank made sense.
Still think Mei could be reworked to tank or even support somehow.
Whether it worked or not it was still more fun than this 5v5
5v5 with role queue, minimum 1 per role, maximum 2 per role. Then team comps can actually be effective.
@@xsomewhattoxicso you mean you basically want to have 2 tank 1 dps comps?

@@kingauther7812 a tank with a small hitbox would actually make so much sense if you think about it. give her more health and make her cooldowns shorter, and you'd have a viable tank that's harder to hit

This entire title is why I stopped playing Overwatch in the first place. Its either mirrors, or swapping constantly to counter their swap.

the most annoying moment when i got role queue as tank is flying heroes. my teams always ignore pharah or echoes + mercy for the entire match.
I'm gold two and yesterday the counterpicking was crazy. I was ball in beginning, the dps went sombra and zen. I took rein the tank went ramatra, I switched to sigma the tank went rein.
You don't need to swap in Gold. Just learn the matchup.
Its hilarious that they made the tank a solo role and more powerful to incentivise people to play it, but instead it just makes the role so polarizing and high responsibility that no one wants to play it lol. Reminds me of Jungler in League of Legends actually.

U nailed it with that title, holy.
I really want my tank duo with my cousin back, its the reason i started playing tank in the first place, but i now just cant let go cuz i just got too attached to it, it is almost painful more than half of the games i go through, even the winning ones
My biggest struggle with tank is knowing who to counter swap to.
Zarya, ball, dva, sig and doom are who I don’t know who to counter swap to
tripping on lsd really puts into perspective how good you guys are at this game. like holy hell what are the rest of us even doing
Not really what I expected with a title like "counter watch"
It also doesn’t help the fact you have less impact and ability to alter games when dps is lacking… when there were two tanks they could pick the slack up
got that song the hedgehog music going on❤❤
I usually destroy on monke but it all ends when someone gets tired and then its playing against reaper, bastión, dva, then I switch to sig or ram, then they switch again
As a Dva one trick, I hate that I'm forced to swap when the enemy counters with Zarya after losing the first fight. I've gotten good at fighting Zarya's through necessity, but it's so difficult, impossible even, when my team isn't coordinating the attack with me. Some people want to destroy bubbles and then ignore her, feeding her charge and doing no real damage. And that's on top of their lack of target priority, so the supports just undo any damage that is done. Zarya isn't even hard to counter pick because she's countered by damage heroes like Bastion and Widow more than she's countered by any tanks. This is not the case for Symmetra.
I don't want to focus all of my anger on Zarya here because she hasn't been anywhere near as much of a problem for me recently as Symmetra has been. Dva has no defense against beams, and Syms beam gets stronger not as a punishment for damaging a bubble like Zarya, but instead it gets stronger from doing damage to anything. And I don't even have the option to escape as Dva because Sym turrets slow you to a snail's pace even while boosting. And because tanks often have limited range, it can take a while to destroy a turret that's a little further away, maybe if you to destroy it before your in its range. And by that point, Sym just has the turret recharge. As far as I can tell, there are no counters to Sym. Please tell me if I'm wrong.
I love Ball and his mobility & disruptiveness. When they select Sombra my hearts sinks...
Overwatch devs dont know how to run their own game
the thumbnail explains why i rarely play Tank
Unlike other roles where is just that difference for the tank where you cannot force a pick an win.
What?
@@DapimpBDSD I think they might be trying to say that you can’t brute force tank a pick and still win, like you have to swap characters or get shit on. Where like DPS or healer if you’re good enough or a one trick you can just power thru and still win even tho it’s harder. I think that might be what they’re trying to say?
@@RayvenFeather Makes sense. Some dps still feels like counter swap hell. Good luck playing junkrat into pharah echo comp. But for the most part I would argue that support is the role where you can almost always stay the same hero.

Playing as a Tank in OW2 isn't the same, it feels awful in comparison
I've noticed Flats seems to forget that Ram can hit through shields during nemesis. You should ignore ram during nemesis, and move away from reaper instead. It probably wouldn't do much other than make him miss a few punches from the unusual movement, but that might be enough to survive.
Also, stop letting the enemy Lifeweaver leave petals on the ground. Just proc them, and you'll probably end up saving yourself more often than not.
As someone who ended up forced to always tank in OW1 I ended up loving tank synergies. It became my favorite part of the game.... aside from DPS Moira but we don't talk about that guilty pleasure. OW2 has been terribly boring for me because if I go tank I don't have another tank to synergize with. The enemy tank constantly counters so I have to keep swapping too. I used to place like 15 accounts on all 3 roles each season and grind on a few of them minimum. In OW2 I have played on 4 accounts. 1 of them all I did was my tank placements, went 7-0 and got Plat season 1. Then they got rid of fake ranks and it jumped to masters without being touched since season 1. Still haven't gotten back on that one. The other 3 I have 1 in masters on tank but haven't played since season 2, another account I just 1 trick doom because I enjoy it and I'm in Plat (was high masters with doom in OW1 but tank doom doesn't click for me RIP dps doom), and I have 1 account I only use controller on because I like to play comp but also relax my hands a bit and remember what it was like back when I played console.
Each season I play less. Each season I seem to drop another account I play on.
This season I've only played my doom 1 trick account and controller account.
Next season I'll probably quit and only hop on when friends ask me to and even then I'll usually say no.
RIP the game I used to love.
The title alone is a reason why I hate playing tank
It probably doesn't help that players get a maximum of 30% ult charge when they swap.
I love playing Hog against orisa, zenyata, Ana and bastion, i can put alot of work.
Maybe thats why we had a second tank
From the balancing issues to how empty most of the maps feel now, OW was NOT made with 5v5 in mind
This is the ONLY reason why I prefer palidins. You are locked in for the match. No counterplay...well unless someone ends up picking a character that can directly counter you the entire match, but usually you are fine since there are 20+ more heros then ow2 has.
I stopped playing tank because of the constant swapping needed. Counterpicking makes the game really unfun to play.
What tank counter Rammatra
I used to just say fuck this I’m not letting them push me off my main and just double down
I personally like 5v5 way more than 6v6 however, now that you have 1 tank in your game this means that all of the flaws of each tank are now a lot easier to exploit thus this trend of more counter-swapping. If this is 6 v 6 2-2-2, and if your Doom or Winton's getting countered, your off tank or 2nd tank can easily help that Winton or Doom.
I personally like 5v5 coz there's more risk for the tank to actually do good, however, this means that the devs should really put more work into balancing each tank. Coz even though I like 5v5 more than 6v6, I hate it when I get counter-swapped.
ow3 with 4v4, next. 1 tank, 1 support, 2 dps. all the big streamers praise how it "fixed the game" for about a month or two, and none of them will stick around afterwards.

Need a pick and ban system, if they're done wasting their time on pve let's focus on making this game competitive. Nobody likes playing musical chairs getting countered then swapping to their counter endlessly. There's a reason mobas don't allow players to swap and we're seeing it first hand every single game.
I realize how old this is, and I do actually agree with you. However, counterswapping was actually a very important part of the essence of the game that the original developers had in mind. It is a lot more out of control these days due to balance and what not, but I would not like if they took away the ability to swap in general. That is one of the last things keeping overwatch unique. Again, you are not wrong though, shits crazy right now.
This is why I'm no longer a tank main.
Kind of under the opinion Overwatch as a game would be better with minimal to no usage of abilities. No ultimates, just small things to use from time to time.
The way paladins stopped this, was once you've picked your hero. You couldn't swap. Just had to deal with the hand your dealt with.

Unpopular opinion but I love it this way. Only me as a tank and I can flex. I hate having a horrible other tank with me on overwatch 1

I just play winton win then they peak reaper mie sombra hanzo widow ana junkrat orisa and mercy ho and I forgot bastion too
8:26 its funny how they've still not fixed the crazy ragdolling in ow2...ow1 wasn't even like that...
its not even that playing tank as a single is the major issue. the game just has a damage issue with things like Sombra hack, notorious Zenyatta discord orb, Mercy damage boost... thats what i believe anyway. the role can be responsible for a significant amount of elements but i feel it should be that way, considering you are the huge target responsible for "attention baiting"
Playing Tank is stressful you die most of the time your whole team die and blame you no matter what
Ima be honest when i play tank I'm not exited for any tank they all are bad right now in my opinion i prefer dos or support
so true, i hate how tanks just counter eachother so hard
I like the idea of overwatch and there really isnt another replacement. But this game needs to get scrapped and start from scratch. Would love to see another developers take.
not sure how you played rein that long without running into zen, mei and bastion.
enemy team wasn't losing hard enough.
Hmmm ... If they're not giving us PvE can they at least give hs back 6v6?
I’m a tank main and I hate the idea of 5v5. I get that it makes the game easier for dps players, but without the second tank the games feel slow/one sided. The only reason ppl complained about double shield is bc they were too lazy to go around them. Everyone just wants to shoot forward and count on headshots instead of strategy. I honestly miss double shield bc it was never a problem for me to play against. Sigma and ram would be the only stationary shields in the game now. So there shouldn’t be an issue with double shield anymore. If they bought back the second tank role I think it would add a little bit of life back into the game.
Ow2 is a watered down version of ow1. You used to have to earn elims, have tank synergy, and team strategy. Now all you need is to aim forward, have a good m+kb and play zarya/widow/zen
Nah, double shield was OP and boring. It was extremely boring to spend the whole fight shooting at shields that were cycling on cooldown. It was never as simple as “just go around the shield” because if you were in an okay lobby, those shields would be placed in spots that created a lot of space for the enemy to sit behind them and shoot at you. It was also very easy to play.
@@joecon601 I personally never noticed double shield was an issue until I heard ppl complain about it. Orisa with any other shield was the only op example imo. Now that she has no shield she won’t be an issue with a duo tank. Also I think ow2 can implement the idea of locking main tank once someone picks it. Then the other player would have to play off tank. This could only apply to the tank role. So now both teams will have an offensive and defensive tank. That would fix alot of balancing issues. (Widow won’t be able to set up and nest in one spot) This could also fix the problems with zarya feeling op to play against.
@@joecon601 also I have to disagree with ow1 being easy💀 in comparison ow1 was competitive and involved strategy as a team. Ow2 is very simple to play as long as the enemy team doesn’t have an advantage against you ( higher ranked players, counters, or a literal hacker)
@@drearoshalexoxo7326 well for starters I didn't say OW1 was easier, I said double shield was easy to play, although let's not pretend OW1 was that much harder lol. All this "strategy" and "playing as a team" weren't really a thing in lower ranks, so games were basically a team deathmatch (kinda like OW2 is). Double shield was definitely a problem in higher ranks, so maybe that's why you never noticed it as an issue.
@@joecon601 considering that what u just said i obviously played in higher ranks since I know ow1 to be more strategic and team based. I never noticed double shield bc it wasn’t an issue for me. There’s no reason to insult someone bc they didn’t complain about double shield. Imo double shield wasn’t an issue and this has nothing to do with rank. Some players figured out how to deal with double shield in ow1. I’ll say it again…jus go around it. (High ground, off routes, characters mobility, or characters that could shred shield which would force a tank to switch).
Moving on I don’t care about double shield in ow1 the game is dead and gone. Double shield wouldn’t be an issue in ow2 bc players aren’t as dense as they were in ow1. Most players know now that shooting the red rectangle over and over is pointless. If they added a second tank role to ow2 it would solve so many issues and it would bring a competitive challenge back to the game.
I quit tank last season. Unbearable role because of this. Dps is a lot more fun with 1 less tank and support is even more powerfull now. But you just cant have fun against ana zen + mei and the tank counter swapping you as a tank. If you do good and are the reason the enemies loose you will just get hard countered untill you are forced to play a tank you are less good on.
As an off tank player i really dont like play tank as much in overwatch 2 the off tanks are not that good u have to always play meta and counterpicking the same thing over and over ... it have become pretty boring and stressing the worse part is when u destroy the enemy tank and began getting focused by a mei sombra zen u cant do shit and u have to listen to everyone complains this just became one of the most unfun roles to play
ur playing owl pro avalla🥸
As a tank player I quit Overwatch. Support cooldowns are make and break fights and dps do more damage than tanks in most situations with a smaller hit box. Tank feels like a counter carousel and requires more team coordination that is simply not promoted by the meta
