    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    The closing sewing is the most basic sewing used in car upholstery to attach two pieces together by using a sewing machine.
    The general upholstery starts out from this sewing. We could consider the other well known sewings and trims as additionals. I am referring to the oversewing, double stitches, piping and hems.
    I have realized some car seat covers only use this basic sewing to attach the whole pieces.
    In this video I show what is advisable to get a tight and not so loose sewing to close or attach two pieces together. I mean vinyl or leather.
    Is it possible the use of just one needle for the closing sewing and the other sewings and trims?
    Yes, if we use a medium size needle ( 130=21 or 140=22), the same thread 92 size and stitches from 3 to 4 mm long.
    By using this way we would get acceptable sewing and the job would be faster because we would not be changing needles several times.
    Thicker needles and threads can also be used if necessary to attach hard materials and we want sturdier sewings too. Let's say canvas outdoors or leather for heavy duty applications, etc.
    I hope you find this information useful!

      La máquina debe dar la misma cantidad de puntadas hacia adelante y en reversa.
      Cuando esta desajustado puede causar que al dar la reversa haga bolas al hilo.

    Great video! You've been an inspiration! Y me parece que también habla español! Genial!
    Currently I'm using a size 19 needle with a size 20/TEX 135 thread up top and Coats and Clark Upholstery (thinner gauge than size 20 thread) in bobbin. Is it silly to use this combination? I've found some success with it however, from my understanding it is unconventional to use different size threads together. Thanks!

    • @Cechaflo
      @Cechaflo  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Combinations of thick threads on top and thinner threads on the bobbin are acceptable in case of doing oversewings or double stitching. Regularly, it is used a 138 thread on top and a standard 92 thread size for the bobbin.

      @@Cechaflo Thanks for your reply. In my case, I’m top stitching over leather and other automotive fabrics. Is this still acceptable?
      Would this process benefit from an 18 needle or is this different negligible?
      Thank you!

    • @Cechaflo
      @Cechaflo  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jaelnava9160 For the closing sewing is advisable a thin needle to get a tight and neat junction. The advisable needle is a 110=18 size It could be a 14=90 size in case of special jobs on consoles, dashboards, etc. The idea is make holes just enough to let the thread (92 size)pass through.
      To top stitch I would use the same needle provided the thread is the same 92 size. A thicker thread would not freely run through the needle eye. The standard thicker thread 138 needs a thicker needle. I use a 21=130 needle size. Thicker materials would need bigger needles to avoid bending of the needle that could cause skipped stitches or damage of hook point of the shuttle.

      Muchas gracias por su sugerencia. Le comento que la tapicería, generalmente se aprende mirando lo que hace el otro y luego haciendo. Ademas un poco de buen gusto y sentido común para hacer las cosas. El método pedagógico que uso es el visual. Hay que observar con detenimiento, luego analizar para comprender y enseguida practicar. No se ocupa idioma.
      Me gusta poner como ejemplo a uno de mis alumnos/Edgar Bechelov) que empezó hace 5 años aprox. El vendía tapetes para carros lujosos. Nunca pensé que el quería ser tapicero. Hasta que encontré de casualidad su página y convertido en todo un maestro de la piel/cuero. Lo menciono porque el me comentaba que miraba mucho mis videos aprendiendo cada día. Además me agradecía y yo me sentia muy contento.

    Do you have to change the timing or the gap between the needle and hook tip every time you change the thickness of the needle

    • @Cechaflo
      @Cechaflo  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No it is not necessary to touch the timing or gap. The hook point touches close the scarf of any needle from 90=18 to 200=25 needle size (this applies for an industrial Pfaff)

    Would you do a top stitch as a longer stitch length or keep it 3mm?

    • @Cechaflo
      @Cechaflo  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The same thread size (92) could be used for top stitches(oversewing or double stitches). If I would use this thin thread then I would top stitch from 3 to 5 mm long at most. On small items the stitches could be from 2 to 3 mm long.
      If I would use a thicker thread(138) then a 3 mm long stitch would be too short for this thread size. It could be from 4 to 6 mm the stitch length.
