- Tiny house tour. Room by room. It has a great design with no wasted space. It is 18' x 36' with 18' ceiling. Low maintenance with no painting metal siding. My wife design this 15 years ago and my children have lived in it from time to time. We use it as a guest cottage.

I clicked this video because the outside was so cute, now watching the video I am just amazed. This is the first tiny house that looks actually doable and comfortable. I could see myself living in a house like this very nicely. You and your wife did very well!

Honestly this would be a great full time home for someone wanting to live debt free. Just big enough to be comfortable but not wasteful. $40k self built could be workable for many people. A couple could live off one salary for a year and save the other persons salary and in a year or two have a mortgage free home!
The only problem is that 40k will end up costing you 80k. Why, well because banks are thieves!
DR Paquette Not if you save the 40k and pay with cash, or a retired person could sell their home, take the equity to built a tiny house and bank the rest. Perfect for a couple or single person.

finally a comfortable tiny house. the bedroom ceiling is very comfortable 9 ft high and not a crawl space to get into bed-thats a huge plus. the high ceilings makes it look very airy and spacious. gorgeous home

I would be stealing every idea the Solar Decathlon houses ever came up with e.g. beds dropping from ceiling or tucked under floor steps, self turning solar panels, gray water filtration landscaping, decorative working rain barrels, kitchen/ grow lights to grow herbs in front of back splash, mini entryway green houses etc

it really reminds me of the house I designed that my husband and I paid my dad to help us build. ours is 16x36, has a loft bedroom, has the bathroom/laundry room/closet at the back, high gambrel roof, kitchen to the left, window in the eave, etc. except we have a bigger front porch and a side deck (which we could've done without because we never use it for anything!). we built it for about $30k. it's our house though, not a guest house. we love it.

This is by far the best design for a tiny house I have seen. It is compact but it doesn't seem cramped or as though the person has to do without any modern convenience. Excellent.

When you mentioned your daughter moving back home because of her husband it hit hard . My husband is also in the military and he just left for a mission he won’t be home for another 8 months . I moved back with my parents as well I just wished it was as comfortable as your little house . Bless you and your family.

The only addition I would make would be retractable curtains upstairs so one person could sleep and have privacy while others were down in the living quarters with lights on.

What a charming house. I could see myself happily living there. The only thing I would change would be to finish to top of the kitchen cabinets so that the view from the bed loft would be more pleasant. Your wife was right about the stairs. They are much more useful and safer than a ladder. Good job!

Beautifully done. I have to smile at the dimensions you mentioned. As an American living in the Netherlands, I've gotten used to this kind of 'small' sized living though my rental, being about the size of your tiny house, is considered quite large for Holland.
Linda Casey I suspect American ideas about what's small somewhat differs from most European lifestyles, here in the UK, this is quite a generous size for 2 people, esp in London, where property is ridiculously expensive!
Linda Casey When I traveled overseas I realized how much wasted space we had at home. I just couldn't get used to the tiny fridge- I don't shop for fresh food everyday like some Europeans unfortunately.
I dont think there are very many people who would consider this "tiny" even in north america

I have to agree with some of the responses you have gotten, you did a great job with space and the feeling of room.
Very stunning! I have to laugh because back in the late 80s everybody was building huge houses. I was one of them. Downsized 10 years ago to a 70 year old 1200 square foot Cape Cod. it has a forty-year-old addition on the back which more than houses my dining room furniture. My 3000 square foot home didn't have a dining room as big as this one LOL. I grew up in a Cape Cod smaller than the house I'm living in now. Six people and one bathroom. I don't ever remember feeling like we had a small house because everybody had one. I would never build a large house again or live in one. Someday I hope to have something like yours or even an RV where I can travel.

It Measures 18'x 36' = 648 sqft. a small house, but because of his engineering skills an upstairs was added, which increased the livable space on that foot print. This extra feature didn't add much cost the build either. If One could build a structure like this, the sweet equity goes a long way. I built, with a buddy of mine, a 21'x34' = 672 sqft (wish we did an upstairs now) for around $15,000 in materials (the 3acres were $12,500). The place is worth 55K easily. Took 2 months to build with 2 guys. Mark did an EXCELLENT job, did you see those stairs and the trim work throughout? Beautiful works that takes time. Awesome Brother!
My home is 900 square feet with 2 bedrooms. The second bedroom is the man cave, my personal space is the kitchen LOL. I do not feel my house is that "tiny" when I have to clean it. Great job Mark!
The extra storage room could even be a small bedroom/ nursery for a child. Very nice I hope to live in a home like this one day

I wish all who might be financially struggling could see how nicely they might be able to live if foregoing a lot of the wastefulness. Wow just wow this is absolutely the best tiny home ever built a masterpiece @ $40k I love the fact that it doesn't feel clutter full of storages at every turn like others and your floor plan is nicely open with tall ceilings washer dryer storage was a huge plus for me. It's good to downsize and not loose the most important "feeling comfortable" in your home your daughter is lucky and let's hope she will appreciate all the love and hard work you put into this tine home great job dad!!!!!!

that's a good thing, people don't really like to cram into tiny homes but they do it to save money by not having to purchase land.

I love your tiny house! Its just the right size, has a lovely stairway, washer and dryer and plenty of storage space. The price is just right for me! Only one problem, I have absolutely no power tool skills and have never built anything!

I got the plans Mark, Thanks. I purchased my land in January of this year and I've already verified that I could build something like this on my land. I am not planning on moving down there yet (maybe in 10yrs) but I plan to spend time building and having this ready for me by then when I sell my home here, quit working and move into my Mark & Wife designed small home.
