Frieza is of a race that can survive dismemberment. He can survive being blown to literal pieces and then be put back together using technology. Frieza could easily survive getting his head chopped off.
Piccolo is of a race that can heal from almost any wound. He can regenerate lost limbs at an obscene rate if the abridged is to be believed using the Nail example. He also doesn't seem to have a limit on this and can live for around five hundred years plus.
Put the two together and Cell is practically immortal. If a piece of Cell is still around it can also theoretically regenerate even if it is just...well... cells.
This takes a bit more time hence why this new Perfect Cell is now around. Why he didn't do this to begin with is going to be chalked up to Sayin and Frieza DNA.
Also by this logic they need to destroy him down to the very cells. This is why blowing himself up would work and King Kai's place is not surrounded by Imperfect Cells.
On a sobering note, because he is of Sayin origin along with these other abilities he should have been able to pull a Zamasu and be able to be getting a freaking Zen Kai boost every time he comes close to death and comes back to life.
Meaning he should have gotten about...1/3 more powerful each time he had his top or bottom bits blown off then suddenly recovered. This works because Dendei was able to heal Vegita right after getting shot so there isn't like a time limit on it...

Yeah it has been shown in original DBZ that Cell was actually surprised he came back. Dr. Gero actually just designed Cell's form in such a way that even blowing himself up will leave Cell with ONE cell. The Nucleus thing was a dub, most likely. Or it could mean that it was one specific cell that is a ton more likely to survive than others.
I mean, if you could survive and be rebuilt from single cell, wouldn't you make it so that there is one Blackbox-like thing in your body even if nothing else can have same level of durability?
But didn't they stayed up bunch of times that the namekian Regeneration take a lot of energy even if it was just something like an arm? Let alone every other cell in your body. Also the Saiyan Power UP doesn't work on this you are healed so wouldn't that mean he would at least need to steal a senzu bean?
10:48 In the actual episode, what he's doing is using a bulked up form the way Trunks did to try and equal Gohan's power. It worked out about as well for him as it did for Trunks.

They DID explain how Cell came back to perfect form in the original. When he blew up, his original nucleus remained and Dr. Gero originally programmed it to retain all the memories of everything he's known and to reconstruct itself from that literal original cell with all of that knowledge and power intact. It's sort of like how a strand of DNA contains all the building blocks of information, and it just reconstructed him with the memory of his perfect form. Plus, he's even stronger due to Saiyan biology that buffs their strength when returning from near fatality.
It was also when he learned the Instant Transmission.
Learning instant transmission was BS. Kinda like how Vegeta learned energy sensing without any explanation.
Cells resilience comes from the combination of Frieza, Sayain and Namekian DNA. Frieza’s Race judging from both Frieza and Cooler can survive with most of their body gone. Frieza was chopped in half and still alive, he got caught in the explosion of a planet and was still alive, same for Cooler he got thrown into the sun but his head and other parts of his body lived so he survived. Then with Namekian DNA he can just regenerate losses body parts, and with Sayain DNA he gets stronger for the experience. Him being able to comeback from a cell was something Cell didn’t even know he could do, which means Gero probably didn’t intend for that to happen either. It was just pure luck born from irresponsible Gene Splicing.
The only problem with this is how did cells power restore to normal. Regeneration takes energy hence the reason he needed a sensu bean from goku to fight gohan at full power. So if he was beaten down by gohan and had to regen why wasnt he still at a weakened state even if he was in his perfect form again.

Funny thing, Gohan actually said almost nothing in the original fight. Especially during thec fights & deaths of Cell Jr's. It was mainly a demonstration of just how strong he was at SSJ2. Which, if you could imagine how many lip flaps needed to be edited in and the added bonus of the writing, and the continuous removal of 3 particular characters who showed up frequently during this all fight, it's no wonder why the Ep. 60 special, specifically pt. 2, took a long time to finish.
I know I might sound like I'm complaining, but quite the contrary. It was worth the wait.

GaRbS they were basically Mr. Satan's spectators. they did absolutely nothing to contribute to the plot and were absolutely worthless. i can't remember exactly what he said, but during a live stream of dbza, Kaizerneko said that they were the 3 that were in the helicopter that got blown up. but because of the fact that they reappeared throughout the fight in this 3 parter, multiple times, and usually in any shot the tv crew and mr. satan were, i'm pretty sure that was something Kaizer had to photoshop out consistently to keep continuity.but honestly, you can tell it's well done because if you never saw the original fight, or just don't remember everything well, you wouldn't notice that they're gone.

no, i think Kai was widescreen. and had a cleaner look along with it. TFS i believe carries the box sets of the original dvds, and Kaiser i'm pretty sure is more in favor of working with the japanese, original versions of Dragonball Z more than the remastered versions, unless some major problem comes into play. why do you think the only dbza video on their channel that's widescreen is their last Christmas special? Kaiser admitted he had problems with the original and was almost impossible to work with.

this is a really cathartic fight seeing cell breakdown throughout the episode is really satisfying
yep. Although for me, the really satisfying part was Goku Manning up that he might have made a mistake and how he treated Gohan.
I mean, I know Dragon Balls her thing now, but it's still kind of hit me when it happened.
it will hit anyone but for some reason i think earth dragonballs well be useless when reviving goku. if they go by canon which earth dragon ball can revive only once

Yannic Held Shenron still could not revive Goku. He said "I can't revive someone who's already been brought back to life" when they summoned him on the Lookout. At least, if I remember correctly from the manga and the Italian dub. Only after Goku stepped in and said "Ya know, maybe the Earth is safer with me dead"

It's the same as with Jynx. The Pokemon was not modeled after blackface. It was based on the Yama-Uba, a sort of mountain witch that was portrayed in plays by actors with dark makeup and white wigs.

Sadly, it's an example of cultural mistranslation. You are correct, but the association with racism in the west had made the depiction less than savory. The same with the Nazi Party and the Swastika, which was originally a symbol of luck in eastern cultures
William Harmon Jynx is both actually. People who took that fashion style ("ganguro" as it's called) too far were called yamanba, basically saying "Look, i know you're trying to look fashionable, but now you're starting to look like a certain mountain witch". Jynx as a whole is sort of a jab at the fashion style, which means that references to yama-uba are included to drive the point home.
It wasn't very well explained how Cell surived. I think the Japanese version said that as long as the nucleus is in tact he can regenerate, but in that case he shouldn't have been able to regenerate when Goku kamehamehad his upper body and head away. (The english dub tried to explain it with something like as long as he has any cells he can regenerate)
As for why he has the perfect form again, it's just standard saiyan Zenkai boost. He gained so much power that he was able to return in his perfect form.
Actually his body remembered the experience which is also a Saiyan trait if you think about GT Goku going from a kid to an adult as Super Saiyan 4 same thing

Cell got angry and bulked up like Trunks did. TFS skipped the animation sequence and just had him come crashing down at full size. Which was a solid move on their part. The comedic timing was excellent.
When Goku teleported Cell, it made a balloon popping sound. Probably too symbolize death.
They've been doing the ballon popping as a running joke for years.
Like 90% sure they're gonna bring up "Super Duper Saiyan" throughout the rest of the run, but for the most part they'll just call it "Super Saiyan 2" for short. And since Goku's dead, he won't know about the name change and call Super Saiyan 3 something crazy.

The worse part about forgetting the dragon balls, it was literally a gag not that long ago when they threatened Krillin's life XD Somehow everyone (well, most people) forget the dragon balls. But in the face of a dramatic death like this one, it's understandable.

Cell got bigger because he was so pissed about losing he tried using his version of the Super Buff Super Saiyan form (Ultra Super Saiyan, Super Saiyan Grade 3, a few other names) that increases power in exchange for speed. and honestly if the explosion was enough to destroy the whole planet and would happen instantly upon any hard contact there wouldn't be time for it to be redirected.

Yeah, you can get a concussion from that. If you are hit hard enough to rattle your brain in your skull, it matters not WHERE you got hit.

In the manga, he punched the Cell Jr. so hard their internal organs were bursting out, but censorship for TV.
Something funny is that Gohan killing the Cell Juniors was a lot more graphic and brutal in the manga. You actually see their brains and eye balls flying all over the place. However, since the anime did have certain things they couldn't show they just made them turn to dust instead.
He got his perfect form back by getting a giant zenkai boost and he is technically in super perfect form now

SSJ2 Gohan hits Cell so hard in the stomach that the vibrations going through his body, going up to his head cause his brain being effected with the same kind of shaking an impact in the head would, thus injuring it, making him suffer concussion.

In the manga when gohan killed the Cell jr's it was way more graphic. One had it where he chops off one's head off with his hand, and you can see his brains. So in the anime they censored it to where they explode when he kills the cell jr's.

Jay Redd on Friday Kaiser said on Twitter he just needs to finish part 3 while the other two parts are complete. Hence why I think we will have to wait a couple of weeks for part 3.

Damn Gohan did not let up at all and I was tearing up when he and Goku were having that painful goodbye. This is going to make the ending of this Arc all the more awesome especially since I already loved the cell Arc. Also taking a page from Vegeta....... there should be a book based on that somewhere. Plus coincidence that I'm watching this while playing Dragon Quest 11.
Cell survived because all of his cells have a nucleus with all of his memories. Plus they contained the genetic memories of when he was perfect, that plus his "Zenki Burst"(Saiyans come back from near death experiences stronger.), and he came back from a single cell so he got a MASSIVE power up. Hence he was able to fight SSJ2 Gohan on equal grounds.
The reason Gohan's Kamehameha can kill him when the explosion didn't is because it was a more focused stream of energy meant to destroy him. The explosion was just a chaotic blast from his core that ended up leaving at least 1 cell behind.

They never stated outright during the livestream that Part 3 was going to be released next Friday, but they said "Part 1 was last Friday, Part 2 was this Friday, so take a guess when Part 3 is going to be released."

Cell returned because
1. His cellular structure remembered his perfect form so he reformed
2. He observed goku's instint transmission so he gained that
3. A piece of his nucleus remained so he can regenerate from the blast
4. Saiyan cells gave him a power boost
Regenerate because Freeza + Piccolo = Insane Regenerative properties. That level of healing nets an insane Zenkai boost from Sayian DNA which gets him enough power to return to perfect form without 18.
I didnt catch it until now. But when goku asked if it was a frieza move or a vagita move, he wasnt talking about the kamahamha, but since cell was loseing he was just going to blow up the planet cause he was loseing. Just like frieza and vegita.

I always thought that SSJ2 was just added lighting it wasn't until I read DBZ fanfics that I realized the added hair. Truthfully death is the only thing they play straight in DBZA. Goku's 1st death, Vegeta, Krillan, Yamcha, Chatzu, Tien, Piccolo, Future Gohan all were played straight.

Cell regenerates if even 1 cell survives, and all of his cells retain his memories, and he was blown together with goku so he uses his cells to learn instant transmission to get back to the fight.
i think he came back perfect because of that blood he coughed up with his cells, and since he coughed it up when he was perfect, it came back perfect
The reason he changed back to his perfect form is b/c he regents from only 1 cell, and the saiyan Zenki almost death boost was greater then 18’s power so it probably substituted her and he turned perfect again

Well, Death had a bigger meaning before Dende, the Earth's Dragon Balls couldn't revive someone more than once, but when he re-made them he took away the immorality wish to be able to have two wishes, further, removed the revival limitation, but it's one of the lesser known things that happened in the series.
Hell, in Super the balls can grant three wishes, and I dont think they said when that was done
I don't recall specifically if it was mentioned when having a third wish was added, but it has been stated the the power of the dragon is directly related to how powerful the current guardian is. Assuming that Dende gets stronger as he gets older would explain why it could have gone to three wishes instead of two.

No, no, no, three wishes thing was there ever since Dende recreated them. It's just that reviving multiple people at once wastes two. Recall how they put it in Abridged:
"Can we get three wishes?"
"Not if you want multi-res. I can give you two, though."
Basically, it's two wishes if one of them is multi-res, three otherwise.

The explanation for him surviving is him having one cell in him that was ultra protected so it would never be destroyed. It also remembered the perfect form, learned instant transmission and maybe even learned how to SS2. I am a bit iffy on the latter but it is plausible.

I swear, every reaction to this episode people are confused about the concussion line. They all miss the massive uppercut to the jaw after the gut punch.
See the thing is though I'm still pretty sure that when Dende remade the Dragon Balls, he kept the rule that you can't make the same wish twice. It's never stated anywhere that Shenron changed at all aside from getting Three Wishes (Two if you Revive Multiple People). So they still can't use the Dragon Balls on Goku, just like how they couldn't have used them on Frieza in Super (which is why I assume Whis revived him himself cuz Toriyama knew they couldn't use the Dragon Balls, even if the characters didn't know he'd been revived once before). And in the base show it's clearly stated that making the same wish is the same as reviving someone a second time, even if it it a multi rez.
I feel like they wasted a good opportunity to say that Killian was going for Cell's sloppy seconds when he got 18.
I really want part 3 to come out already but I also never want it to come out because then it'll be the end of DBZA and I am nowhere near ready for that.
Do people not realise the large gap between 59 and 60 was partially, not completely but partially because they made one 60ish minute long episode and split it into 3 parts.

To answer your question about cell ressurecting, yeah it wasn't really explained the best in the show. One cell survived, but somehow it had the memory of everyone infused with his dna, and it remembered his perfect form, and multiplied to reform him. Personally I thought it was just fine when Goku took him away and that was it.

Well, the thing is Cell was created to be able to regenerate from a singular cell should it survive which one did. He explains that his cells stored the power from his perfect form after the absorption of Android No. 18. He also somehow picked up the ability to perform "Instant Transmission" from Goku (which I don't think was explained unless he inherited it from the Saiyan DNA as Goku witnessed Master Roshi perform a Kamehameha in the original Dragonball show then performed one himself right after.). So with this Cell now is able to be in his Perfect form without Android No. 18 absorbed as well as use Instant Transmission to go to other worlds and destroy them believing his destiny to be "The Universe's End" and the true reason Dr. Gero created him. The combination of Freeza's DNA which allows him to breathe in space and survive limb decapitation, Piccolo's DNA which allows him to regenerate said lost limbs, and Saiyan DNA which allows him to grow in power after he is so badly beaten. This combination is quite literally......Perfect.
One little mistake instant transmission only works if at the destination is someone you know or with similar ki so he will need to first travel to a planet and maybe let a cell jr to teleport once again.
