Agreed on the price mate I only adjust price's before the season starts. I try not to drop customers but if they are rude or make it absolute murder on every visit, they do get let go.

Hi Adam I only let bad players go or those who never clear the poo
I’ve been to places and the dog poo has got worse so much so that I’d end up having to blow for 20 mins before I could mow a small lawn I got fed up as it was costing me time and therefore money
Otherwise I’d never get rid mid season if I can help it but flipping it have you had any get rid of you without giving you a second thought customers can be ruthless and remember to them were just a number
I’ve been loyal to clients before then boom out the blue they’ve found some cheaper
Do what’s best for you I’ve been burnt from being to nice and to loyal these clients are not our friends
    Great video good topic mate

Hi mate, 100% most won't care as you say but the way I see it, it's my reputation so I'd rather not mess people around or change the price after a few visits as they are more likely to tell people. Like you, I'll only really get rid of late payers or the "poo gardens" or obviously if they end up being a dick or whatever haha.
So yeah if I messed up the price a bit, I'm talking like 5/10 pound max realistically I'll just suck it up. Bigger one offs I've gone back to them and acknowledged I've messed up on the price and given them a new one when it's been way out.
Hope you're keeping well mate. Don't know where this year has gone 😲

we do the same, never leave a job mid season, never increase prices, the only thing we have done which is in extreme circumstances, we had to let someone go because they were constantly paying us late sometimes owing above 1k way too many times.

100% agree, if ive priced it wrong then thats my problem, thats why I aim for a decent margin so my other jobs would make up for it.
Only a handful of times I've dropped a customer mid season and that was either down to consistently late payments or locked gates... Im a very fair person and will give multiple chances but if its a consistent thing then sorry they've got to go

I also think if you feel you’ve under priced it’s a long season thinking about it and I’ve been there and you hang on till winter to up it but you end up begrudgingly not working any harder than you need to and not wanting to do the job so it’s better to be upfront so you feel valued if your worth it to them they l pay it if your not they l let you go and you got the answer you needed so never worry about upping mid season but I agree if you happy with the job and customer save increases for spring, I like you, send the msgs out jan/feb of increase then they have a little time but not too much to find someone else ☺️

We price “from-to” for example we give a price of £35 a visit to £40 and when asked why we tell them straight . £35 to come in strim, mow and blow and could be £40 if it’s been hissing it down prior and takes longer on mowing and clean up… 100% of our customers think that’s very acceptable. And we charge accordingly. That little extra on a longer cut makes all the difference. Dog doo customers ! We don’t take in… simples… plenty gardens everywhere so build your rounds wisely 👍🏻

I did get rid of one garden mid season this summer, but I said I would continue until they found another gardener which I think is fair. It was a case of the customer always interfering and wanting me to stay longer than I was able, I already wasn't looking forward to each visit and then the customer one day was just unbearable, at which point I suggested she looked for someone else. Fortunately she found someone about 4 weeks later and I was able to stop visiting.

      8hr Basic day gardening.
      30 mins between jobs
      30 mins waste disposal
15 mins clean tools and maintenance
15 mins paperwork, time sheets and billing
      2 x 15min breaks.
30ins for lunch but don't include this as part of the day or the first and last commute time.
Leaves 6 hours on site billable.
      @ £20hr gives you £120
Set aside 8% for holiday pay
      Set aside 8% for sickness/bad weather/machine failure/van problems f**ked back etc.
Set aside 24% for overheads. Van payments and insurance, public liability insurance, waste carriers licence, waste charges, fuel for van fuel for machines, plus put aside for new equipment and spare parts also PPE.
So £120 minus 40% gives you about £72
      £72 ÷ 8 = £9 = less than minimum wage. Depressing
If you are going to charge by the hr you need to get it to at least £25 but aim for £30.
If this Is your first season then you will get more efficient the more times you visit a garden try to get what you do in an hour down to 45 mins but keep the charge the same and move towards charging per job.
Obviously the other option is to do 10+ hour days and work weekends we have all been there at some point. 😊
Hope this helps and good luck

    • @mikediack8091
      @mikediack8091 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

For info how I work out my charges for gardening.
£5 plus £5 for every 15 minutes i think the job may take.
Small garden 15 minutes = £10 (that is my minimum charge).
      Up to 30 minutes = £15
      Up to 45 minutes = £20
      And so on.
Ideal garden is 30 to 45 min type where you charge £20 but get efficient at doing it and get it down to 40 mins then get all your gardens close and cut down travel time. If you can do 10 gardens like this In a day you are doing all right. If you can do this 5 days before week you may even earn £15/hr (after set asides and overheads) almost on par with junior doctor 😂
... if you don't include the possibility of quadrupling your wages over you working life and massive pension pot that will be so massive that towards the end of your working life you have tax penalties cos you just can't jam any more in there 😢

If you price up a job and charge too little for a regualr two weekly, for the rest of fhe season you're losing money. If you wait til next season ans increase it, there's going to be a double increase. One increase to make it the correct price, then another increase for inflation. Good way to annoy and maybe lose a customer. Much better to say to the customer that it's more work than you first thought and you underpriced it. If rhey dont want to carry on, great, you won't need to make 15 more visits losing money.
