I got caught in a northerner when coming back to Coral Gables from Bimini. I didn’t have radar, was heading to Fowrey Rocks but ended up in front of Solders Key. Luckily, both my sounders went off and I used a boat hook to find the bottom (rocky), reversed my course, went 250 feet and anchored. Wind and rain was so hard, I was wearing a dive mask and I was mostly under my four post tower. I my BLACKFIN was a straight inboard.

Waves are always bigger than they appear on camera. The camera always flattens them out. With waves, there’s a formula that says if they’re averaging 2 feet, every 10th will be 2.5-3 and every 100th will 3.5. So if the waves are 4 feet, the 10th will be 5-6 and the 100th will be 7. It’s true. There are online calculators to figure it out.

Just stumbled upon this video. That is a trip I’ve always wanted to make. But I’m in swfl in Cape Coral. Just picked up a 2020 SeaCat 260 with twin 300 zukes on it. If you’re ever down to meet up with randoms and buddy boat out to Bimini let me know. I want to put in here in Cape Coral, drive to the keys. Chill for a day or two then run to the Bahamas for a couple days and return all they way back to Cape Coral. Sounds like a dream trip.
