      @@rklkify On a side note guard can be absurdly cheap if someone is fine with you playing green army men. Go ahead and sharpie which model type it is on top. A plastic knife is your Bane'blade'.
      Really any army can be fully built for less than $50 if you only care about the game and not about the models. And the terrain is built out of some tape and the cardboard from the Amazon boxes your fake models came in.

      It's probably only at that point per dollar value under the assumption that you're going to magnetize it because holy shit that is alot of wasted plastic. I threw all four of the sponsons and lascannon turrets that the kit comes with on my baneblade for shits and giggles even though you are technically only allowed to have two, because why not, but since noone in my house is interested in warhammer tabletop I ended up chucking everything else since I don't have a use for terrain pieces lmao

      The infuriating thing is, Votann were obviously _intended_ to sit more towards the Custodes end of the elite range, when they first launched. What with 9th ed's Grudge Tokens mechanic being so powerful. Unfortunately, it became too powerful, the army had to be nerfed, then points dropped to compensate. So suddenly an army clearly meant to be heavily armed and armored were instead a pseudo horde army.

    Weird little note: in Australia, Forgeworld used to work out cheaper than GW for Space Marine/IG armies, due to having kits that made "the base troops and stuff" that you needed as well as their specialist things, and having universal pricing regardless of where you buy. That universal price was lower than local GW prices in Australia.

      I think printed Vs retail plastic is a really good metric to look at. I recently printed a GSC army which cost me about £100-£120 (I bought quality stls for nearly every model which was £75 of the cost). If I had bought the equivalent through a retailer who offers 20% off retail value it would've cost me £560 and that's if the models had all been available (they weren't) and if I had managed to eBay the primus models that you seem only able to buy in a pack. Printed also means being able to print different load outs as things change and even do digital kitbashes. This is probably the most money I've ever spent printing an army but it's already 5 times cheaper than the alternative and gives good flexibility.

      Add to that that several kits come in the same box and you can choose which to make, the price of getting every unit is technically even lower.

    For the armies that need love - I have no leaks to back it but I am 90% sure World Eaters and Votann will get a bigger chunk of love this edition since they’re essentially new armies last edition (yes I know WE goes farther back but it was in the main CSM book til now).

    Thank you guys for making this video. This has saved me so much money because now I know to never get into this game. a 3d printer, free STLs, and One Page Rules looks like the future of war gaming.

    • @dcruize
      @dcruize 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      3rd party shops like Wayland Games undercut GW by 20% plus you can pick up much cheaper still on ebay. It's not as horrific as this video implies.

    • @aristotle29
      @aristotle29 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @dcruize I can get a resin 3d printer for about $500, with resin. There are countless free stls out there. One page rules is free. So, for an investment of $500, I can build whatever army I want and can even play games like star wars legion or shatterpoint, and I can 3d other things that I may want.
      I don't think that 20% cheaper than GW or ebay minis can compare to that.

      @dcruize 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@aristotle29 I've picked up 1k of GSC this month new on sprue (except one well painted neophyte squad+Locus) for just under £100 from eBay, so it's not too expensive. Don't really care about non-GW games as there's zero chance I'll ever meet anyone who plays anything but GW tabletop games. I'm a member of the Warhammer 3d printer Facebook group and what I've seen there just puts me off 3d printing until it just works out of the box and doesn't stink.

    • @aristotle29
      @aristotle29 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @dcruize so you got a crazy deal that totally sounds made up? Good for you. But that is rare, to say the least.
      Just because you only play Warhammer doesn't mean that other people can't play other things. Also, if the minis were dirt cheap to make, it wouldn't be that hard to make a spare army for another person to play a new game. Again, seeing the price tag of any of these games is enough to drive anyone away.
      Did painting minis work for you right out of the box? Sounds like it's something that you have to practice with and put some work in to get better at. Just like every other skill in the world.

    I feel like not just using the plastic contemptor for Custodes because its labeled for 30k isn't quite right but I suppose it makes little difference.
    Edit: Since you brought up Relic Terminators, if it is plastic, Forge World doesn't sell it. The kit is primarily for 30k, but it is a GW kit.

    Really appreciate this video, and all the cool stats! I started playing Orks about a year or two ago, and really wish I realized how low the points per dollar is. I always felt like every other faction housed higher point models than anything I would field... Now I know why, lmao.

    I've had a guy run 1stompa with a bunch of mork/gorkanauts in a 2k list with meks buffing/repairing them and they turn into infinite damage absorbing sponges, its pretty decent. Meks repair and and 1 to hit rolls for things they repair so they can become pretty tanky (with lone operative, if hiding behind a 10" wide model is hard for a 32mm based model)

    One fun thing to note is kit versatility.
    Take knights for example, it is almost impossible to make a bad purchase for that army.
    one questoris kit, with a handful of magnets, can make 7 different data-sheets, that can be changed on the fly, as you experiment with army building.
    The only other model who can match that is probably the russ.

    The entry for Purestrain Genestealers has the listed points for 5 models when the box has 10. When corrected this brings the points per dollar for Genestealer Cults to 2.04. and puts them above Orks and Death Guard. I still wouldn't call them a bargain though.

    And with a 3d printer and some Sunloo Water Washable Grey Resin, you can print out most units at like 50-300 points per dollar.Custodes/Grey nights you can literally print an army for less than ten bucks if you hollow and are careful with your supports and such. Plus bases, bases do add a bit if you print them, or buy them, but I think I make my case. Space marines coming out at like 15-25 cents per unit, IG and sisters like 10-18 cents each, an IG sentinel with all weapon options for $1.20 (base included), you get my point. If you're playing with friends, just buy a printer, even maybe a share buy for your gaming group, and ever just gets to take turns on printing time with it (just pop someone elses print off the base and leave it in a UV proof box for them to come buy and clean up all their prints whenever it's their time). If your club just wants to mess around with trying other armies, or trying new minis to pain or other things, it's a good buy. And if split that's like $50 per person for the up front investment.

    It would also be interesting to look at tournament winning armies, even from the past, and see how much it would cost to field a "competitive" army.

    At current, you can make Tyranids work for $500. You buy 3x $60 Hive Tyrants, and make a winged, walking, and swarmlord. Then 3x $60 Tyranofex. Then buy the $110 40k starter set which gives you, 2x10 Termagaunts, 2x1 Ripper Swarm, 1x3 Von Ryans Leapers, 1x1 Psycophage, and 1x1 Winged Tyranid Prime. That brings you to $490 and 1875 points before enhancements. Alien Cunning, Perfectly Adapted and Adaptive Biology on your characters in the Invasion Fleet brings the total to 1945 points for $490 MSRP + some random space marines.
    Edit: Spelling

    Something to point out for us Space Corgis. The GW online blood claw box is the same thing as the grey hunter box but with an extra sprue for 5 more models. That blood claw box can build 15 models of blood claws, grey hunters, or wolf guard.
