I feel like his interactions with Shaggy were handled perfectly. It's how many real people interact with their pets, yet you can still see elements of how he was in the cartoons (i.e. Loves food, and is rather cowardly).
As someone born in 1964, I've been watching (and a fan of) Scooby-Doo in all it's formats since it first started airing. This... was... brilliant... Scooby as a retired police dog just makes so much sense... and with Shaggy as the son of the sheriff, automatically makes you aware how they must have met up. Best Fred of *any* of the series... Starting with him and Velma first was smart, too... Gave a chance for her to be a feature, and not just treated as the 'nerd girl'. Having Daphne be the 'klutz' on purpose was kind of neat, considering how she's often treated in the series. I am so invested in this show, that I'm headed over to Indiegogo to help continue it!
I am LIVING for the Fred Velma friendship right now. If all the friendships end up being as interesting and well developed as the one they started on, this show is going to be amazing!!!!
the show is not called scooby doo, but rather a "Mystery Inc." thus this is not centered around Scooby but still has him as a companion which is a nice touch, even if he can't talk.
I don't mean to sound out of my depth or pretentious but Fred's acting style is giving me major Jimmy Dean vibes and I can't escape it and Velma is a unique kind of awkward that just works and makes her dialogue more believable Shaggy having the cop dad and Scooby being a retired K9? genius.. adds a whole nother element to him being a stoner Daphne leaning into that popular girl trope is so fun to see too I feel like I've been waiting for that, I love this redemption arc and then the HEX GIRLS?? And you got Kiera Please to play Dusk??? I'm floored!! I totally underestimated this adaptation I am just so impressed
The elements are from various Scooby-Doo show and implemented with an air of freshness and originality. The whole thing about Shaggy's dad being a cop has been present since A Pup Named Scooby-Doo
@@raen5256 That's cool to know! Im not super deep in Scooby Doo lore, I was just appreciating the things I noticed, but it's even more impressive knowing they're incorporating details I wasn't even aware of
@@raen5256 And here I thought I was an old school Scoobs expert! Now I must locate and rewarch every PNSD episode to find this info you have spoken of!
I love that Fred and Velma start out as friends first out of everyone and the way he covered her when they summon the mine was proof he sees her as important enough to get his own life to defend her.
Really- it's THE highlight of this episode for me. And it's sweet how that was the focus before a crush with Daphne. I really love the idea of Fred and Velma having a substantial bond that goes beyond them both being the brains of the outfit in different but equally profound ways. This is how you flesh out personalities and relationships between characters to enhance a storyline and its moral themes. ABSOLUTE PERFECTION.
I had no idea this existed! Been a lifelong Scooby-Doo fan! This episode was phenomenal, the cast was amazing, and the plot is intriguing! Looking forward to seeing more! Keep it up y’all!
You dont Fking know what you talking about!! This is the lamest show i have ever seen. Shagy is not Shagy. This is Fking school project!!!! It is bad!!
You can tell passionate people made this show. The amount of easter eggs is insane! Especially Velma bringing up about Ben Ravencroft. Having the Hex Girls work for Vincent Van Ghoul is just awesome.
How is it that fans that can make passionate projects uploaded on TH-cam are much more worth watching and better than big budget studios with professionals, experienced actors and writers, editors, etc. can't do better and always think that goofiness is what the kids these days like?
I find it incredible that this project has more thought, effort, passion and respect for the Scooby Doo franchise than the Velma show. Keep up the great work, can’t wait for episode 2!
can you compare the two one of these (this) has great value both objective and subjective, the other one (Velma) is a completely soulless and deplorable piece of junk with no respect to the source material, no dog, no real friendly relations between the cast (why? why? why?), etc
There's clear love for the original Scooby-Doo and the gang we all know and love. Plus these guys actually feel like the characters while bringing something new to the formula with a more "mature" nature. I really hope we get more because this is incredible!
That Velma show obviously got a lot of ideas from this pilot, but changed it, but there's a youtuber called Britney Reacts, who I was watching react to the Velma show and she reacted to this, and yeah I think their lazy writing stole some ideas from this pilot and switched up characters and all this and that but, have a look, if anyone agrees comment
This show deserves to get picked up by a major streaming platform or a network. The cast and crew definitely went all out, and the quality and production for being an indie project is top tier. Great job you guys, hope to see more episodes soon!

This is how "more mature" adaptation of Scooby-Doo is supposed to be done. Unlike whatever Mindy Kaling is making now. Kudos to the creators of this show.
Yeah you really can tell that the people making this care about what they're making everything is so interconnected the hex girls the 13 ghosts van ghoul, my one gripe is how shallow Daphne is at the beginning but she does start to develop through the episode and I'm sure this will be fixed as the series goes on and the characters develop more
I can't say yet if it is better then Mystery Incorporated animated TV series (best adaptation ever made), but it absolutely should be regular TV series. Unfortunately HB suck.
@Wp9999 hey. I'm guessing she was meant to be annoyingly shallow, so her development to the end is contrasted, so it's can actually be called development. That in my book is a good way to handle it.
@@Wp-jv5ed Personally I think they are portraying someone who's controlled by their mothers insecurities. Her mom literally immediately fat shamed her about wanting frnech toast. I love the depth they have already given to each character and I hope we can get more of this great show soon.

I just love how there is not a single frame wasted. Quick paced, straight to the point, pact with action, emotion and amazing story telling. I’m officially obsessed with this.
It is clear the writers knew the source material and respected it as they write their story. While this is THEIR story, they are using the threads of the existing universe and it is a wonderful adaptation. I cannot wait for more episodes!
My sister is a huge Scooby Doo fan and I cant wait to show her this. At first I thought this was an actual official show and not a fan project. The jokes were on point, Fred is an actual character, the drama is interesting, and having Scooby not talk but Shaggy still talk to him the same is a genius way to keep them the same but not end up too silly. I can only hope that future episodes come out and that Fred gets a love of traps.
@@roanoazoros1fan358 it kinda is coz they got rights to use the characters from WB. Otherwise they weren’t allowed to fund a fundraiser to raise money for this project. Otherwise WB would sue them.
Honestly I’m speechless this is perfect and restored faith a live action version of my favourite tv show ever made could exist…. Thank you for sticking with what made these characters so iconic
The sheer amount of references in this episode is actually insane! I've decided to make a list of the ones I saw. 1) Shaggy's dad being a cop as he was in an episode of one of the early series. 2) The dealer's joy juice is a reference to Flim-Flam's lotsa luck joy juice from 13 ghosts. The dealer also wears a yellow hoodie, like Flim-Flams yellow hooded jumpsuit. 3) The book Fred and Velma find in the bookstore resembles Sarah Ravencroft's spell book from witches ghost and the chest of demons from 13 ghosts. 4) Velma references Jonothan Jacobo as being haunted by the pterodactyl ghost. Jonathan Jacobo was the original pterodactyl ghost in monsters unleashed. 5) Velma also references Ben Ravencroft, a character from witches ghost. 6) The hex girls. This goes without saying. 7) The hex girls sing the song 'hex girl', from witches ghost. Again this is obvious. (Also the actresses absolutely nail the song!) 8) The 13 pillars Velma mentions are likely a reference to the 13 ghosts of Scooby Doo. 9) Fred deciding to split up with Velma just as he does in most Scooby Doo media (also they make a great duo in this) 10) Miner 49er is a classic scooby doo where are you! villain. Another obvious one. 11) Shaggy making a giant, multilayered sandwich toward the end of the episode. 12) Thorn speaks of 'high priest Van Ghoul', a reference to Vincent Van Ghoul from 13 ghosts. (Also the person on the phone to Velma's mother sounds somewhat like Vincent Price... coincident?) 13) The black knight ghosts brief cameo at the end. 14) As suggested, his lawyer is Harvey Birdman (how did I even miss that?...)
Of all things to go over my head...it didn't click to me when Fred said they should split up lmao. Also, to add to your reference list, Fred's lawyer was Harvey Birdman.
Man, research was done, Harvey birdman, hex girls,13 ghost, ravenloft, props to you and you wrote an updated story that works well!! So dope, more I watch more I love! Seriously well done

This is a TV show I don't think I deserve. I've always been a fan of Scooby-Doo since I was a child. Its amazing how much you guys have invested on this show. This channel deserves millions of views.
This is why i love TH-cam. Small creator can take what seems like a fanfic and make this award worthy show, yet Hollywood pumps out a show with big names attached and it feels like a YTP sketch
This isn't just Riverdale with a dog. I really liked the inclusion of Harvey Birdman, The Hex Girls, and Vincent van Ghoul. And the 13 Pillars is a clear reference to The 13 Ghosts of Scooby Doo." They made a gritty Scooby show without making it hateful and vulgar.
I’m not gonna lie, but I think this is *WAY* better than the _Velma_ spinoff. You guys should’ve pitched this to Warner Bros. and HBO Max to be an official series. I bet William Hanna and Joesph Barbera would’ve been very proud of it.
True!this is a thousand times better than VELMA and is made by fans!, who understand the essence of Scooby Doo, which HBO didn't do, I prefer the series to be made by prime or the same creators of riverdale, this is a jewel! and you can see the hard work behind the cameras and the actors.
@user-hs4ei2vp8g Riverdale is own by Warner Brothers just like Scooby-Doo is. This have that Riverdale vibes and should be with Warner Brothers I will watch the shit out of this on cw!!!!!
I'm still amazed this pilot hasn't been greenlighted by WB to be an exclusive in HBO Max, definitely has the quality and talent we all Scooby-Doo fans deserve. Thanks, Dade and crew to giving us a fenomenal experience, count on me as a backer!
Maybe because WB destroy everything they destroyed the matrix trilogy with Matrix 4 they destroyed the DCEU they wouldn’t see good stuff like this which would actually make them money the only good thing that honestly came out of them was The Batman movie and that was only because of Matt Reeves

The perfect blending of the realness/supernatural aspects of mystery incorporated and the characters personalities and lives of the originals with a slight modern twist that makes it realistic. You managed to bring different aspects from the live action films as well as the different cartoon versions together expertly. The sound track was perfect. Everyone who worked in this project is talented and the script were flushed out perfectly as well as the character portrayal being spot on. Loved it. God bless
I love how this is aged up, but doesn’t lose the cartooniness in the acting and dialogue!! This really felt like it was in the scooby doo universe without being over the top or too goofy. It doesn’t prey on nostalgia, and it uses the source material super well! Can’t wait for episode 2!

Fred's distracted, so no one acknowledges it, but seriously, the amount of detail that was put into this show is insane! I have nothing but respect for everyone involved in this!!
The fact Fred's lawyer is Harvey Birdman is an awesome touch! I actually thought this was made by the same people who made Riverdale at first because the production was so top notch but now I see it's fan made! Well done!

I’ve loved scooby doo and all of its series my entire life with a passion. They nailed it with making it interesting and a bit different than what we’d expect. Thankyou so much for creating this producers, writers, actors and filmers 🙌🙌🙌🙌
I am in disbelief. This concept is far-better than anything Hollywood could crank out, and does the Scooby Doo series the justice it deserves. I see some comments saying this should be picked up by Netflix or another streaming service, but I think not. It deserves a higher budget but the suits need to let the director and writers keep full control of this. They know exactly what they’re doing, and they’re doing it right. GREAT JOB!
I am FULLY DOWN for this to be a full series. The amount of love and research that went into this was incredible. You guys took elements from every corner of the franchise and made something that isn't tacky or forced, but something that deserves a shot. And what a hell of a shot this would be.
Most respectful and loving modernization of the gang I have ever seen. The attention to detail is spectacular and the cast is top notch! You guys wove so much into one episode... As a lifelong fan, I am in awe. Truly perfection.
I geeked out when I saw the Hex Girls, thinking they were just going to be a quick cameo. Imagine my shock seeing the ending. I love this so much, especially all the nods and references to past Scooby doo movies. The child in me is overjoyed.
Yes, actually cried at the end and almost throughout the whole thing. Hex girls are as legendary as scooby, period. Edit: Overjoyed child is the exact vibe
You have no idea how happy I was to see Harvey Birdman appear as Fred's lawyer - I admittedly was worried and had low-ish expectations going into this, but left pleasantly surprised and hungry for more of this take on the gang - especially big on Shaggy - I love how Scooby is his dad's retired police dog and how "scooby snacks" are codenames for his edibles!

I agree, it was awesome to see their growing friendship centered that way. I loved the characterization for all four "meddling kids"... it added a lot of depth to them while still feeling true to the original show, and with none of the overly-cynical grimdark stuff that's so popular lately. I really like what you’re doing with Daphne’s character. She’s not acting like her true self because her Parents are like “You’re a Blake and Blake’s Do This” and that just pushes her into the popular/mean girls group. I really liked that scene of Daphne basically protecting her competition so the one girl wouldn’t get in trouble. Basically I really like the direction you’re taking her character
Yea I can’t wait to see her character growth, I am so glad she helped the girl. At first I was worried about her characterization but it looks to be going in a good direction
It’s because she grew up in that lifestyle of the rich kid. It’s like the live action show is based off of the animated Scooby Doo Mystery Incorporated series. Trust me, I really liked the cartoon series and Daphne and Fred are the best couple. I can even relate to the live action characters, especially Fred.
This needs to be a full series!! I am astounded at the quality of this. It looks like a real show! As a long-time fan of Scooby-Doo, I absolutely adore this! Keep up the fantastic work!!
The actors were incredible! Aside from them looking to be in their late 20s, which may be the exchange of having such a phenomenal cast, it was so spot-on. Especially, thinking of the Riverdale cast. 😂 Honestly, the way they incorporated "zoinks" and "jinkies" makes my heart so happy.

Super interesting to see the 13 ghost be represented by past Scooby villains, The Black Knight is next, would love to see The Creeper, and Charlie The Robot
This feels like something between a CW show and Buffy, and I am all for it. I've never been a big Scooby fan, but this has me vastly interested. I'm also loving the nods to the old shows.
At first glance I thought "oh, they're Riverdale - ing Scooby-Doo." Then I watched it. Guys, the production team at Riverdale should be taking notes! This was amazing! Its all the little nuances: Zoiks, Jinkies, the dialog was crisp (I cannot WAIT for somebody to complain about "those meddling kids!"), it made sense, this was the calibre of anything on TV. Absolutely love the fact that Shaggy and Scooby can communicate but nobody else is in on it! This is so obviously a labor of love, but it doesn't sink into parody like the Hollywood live action movies. The performances were completely top-flight. Congratulations, you've crafted a masterpiece!
I’ve been saying this for years. Scooby Doo needed a live action reboot. A serious one for those that grew up with the franchise and are now in their late 20s-30s. This almost has that 90s scream vibe! Can’t wait to see more!!

And scooby always backed up shaggy. They never opened any porthole to h*ll and the miner and the black night along with the pterodactyl guy were just people in masks not signs from h*ll or pawns of it. I've just finished viewing this Pilot Episode. The actors and actresses did some AMAZING work. How is it that an independent production team can stay more faithful to the original source materials than WarnerMedia itself? This is much superior to that abortion that HBOmax Shat out. I am BLOWN AWAY. The ghosts are actually creepy as an adult. A lot of shows lately have tried to bring back monster shows and none of them are scary, (are you afraid of the dark) but this is actually really good.
This pilot highlights every single possible flaw the Velma show has because here’s this tangible proof of how making a good, modern, mature scooby doo take is very achievable. Kudos to the entire team for an incredible job!
Mindy Kaling's animated ego trip which shall not be named epitomizes the wrong way to make a modern 'Scooby Doo' take aimed at adults. This pilot, in contrast, epitomizes the RIGHT way to do so. I can't wait for the next episode to premiere!

This is such and interesting concept. The mixture of references to the wider franchise and the way it’s shot like a TV series makes it almost feel official. The character of Velma is really expertly done and I enjoy the lean on Shaggy’s drug related references in the older scooby doo days as part of his character here. The 13 ghosts of scooby doo make for an interesting plot point, especially when they’re replaced with iconic ghosts like Miner 49er and the Black Knight Ghost. I spent most of the episode trying to find the greedy capitalist they were going to unmask and was pleasantly surprised that there wasn’t one. The mystery figure on the phone reminds me of Mr.E from Mystery Incorporated, the animated series. I was kinda hoping Scooby would talk, but I can fully understand why he doesn’t for realism. Super excited to see where this will go!

@@DazraelArianosI want you to know that I understand the angle you're coming from. However, the first thing I do when viewing a ' fan film' is appreciating the effort and time taken towards working on property which belongs to a larger corporation with limited budget to express a view on how a minor yet creative take on certain popular characters can be expressed . Had this production been made with a 200 million dollar budget with known Hollywood stars released on Netflix I would probably have been disappointed with what I just watched. That is entirely separate from my point though. My angle is this is not Scoobydoo. This is the names and general appearance of the main characters sloppily slapped onto any high school comedy/drama. My angle is if the adaptation changes everything except general appearance and names than the only reason for keeping what little they did from Scoobydoo is the nostalgia to bring in fans of the old product. My angle is if this had been it's own creation it would have gotten a pass based on the points you made but since it proclaimed itself Scoobydoo it didn't get a pass because it is a lousy Scoobydoo. I do hope you guys continue your efforts and I will wait as long as it takes for more episodes keep it up guys!
Dude this randomly popped up in my feed.... and I'm impressed! You guys dug deep into so many different eras and versions spanning over 50 years and really did your homework. This is fan made project done right. The production value alone is fantastic. And it has a Buffy/early Riverdale feel, so it's totally contemporary and adding a new sinister take is unexpected, but welcome. The attention to detail and all the Easter eggs .I mean as a lifelong Scooby -Doo fan....I couldn't ask for a better spin on the franchise. Seriously great job!
Came back to this after watching the first episode of “Velma” and I have to say, this is a million times better since you guy’s actually like Scooby-Doo
@@nairobi8337 obviously I meant the franchise in general and not specifically the dog, but I understand reading comprehension can be difficult. That said the show still displays a blatant hatred of the franchise and is committed to bashing it in every way possible, why else would they have Velma be the most spiteful and mentally deficient character in the series? Why would they have Velma, who is 15 in the show, pole dance for her own father?
@@nairobi8337 if that were true then it would actually be funny, also it wouldn’t actively insult its audience or the Scooby-Doo fanbase as a whole. Defend it all you like but the truth is that’s it’s a spiteful self insert of an unfunny woman clinging to relevancy
UPDATE : March 18,2024 " Sorry for the gap between updates. The strike threw us all for a loop and as a project under SAG we wanted to make sure we were standing in line with all of our brothers and sisters in both the SAG and WGA strikes. After the strikes, things got crazy. Our director Dante is still in Canada as the strikes delayed most everything that was in production at the time including the things he's been working on. Once we have updates on his return we'll have updates as to when we can resume production. There's also much more happening behind the scenes that unfortunately we aren't able to speak on as of yet but we are hoping these things will finalize soon and we can share them with you all. Sorry for the lack of updates, we're working as hard as we can and it can be a mentally exhausting task to feel like we are coming back to you guys with no progress when really we've been working exhaustingly fighting towards every avenue for this project. And I was hoping the Netflix announcement of the scooby doo live action was you guys. Hoping you guys got a wonderful deal with Netflix to make something amazing together.
Genuinely an incredibly good pilot. I wasn't expecting much tbh but this blew me away! So glad TH-cam randomly recommended this to me! It's obvious you guys respect the characters and the show whilst putting your own interesting spin on everything and I think it works really well. Really hoping you guys get the funding you need to make the whole thing, and I will definitely be contributing to help fund the project, and sharing as well! Best of luck to you all!
This is actually really good for what seems to be a humble fan project. Love the references, the acting was awesome, and even as a fan of Scooby-Doo classic, this somber take is well done. You've all done a phenomenal job. Can't wait for more. This is better than some of Netflix's original.
This is a fan made project? Holy shit it didn't feel like it. It looks really professional and well made. I love the references too. I had the biggest smile on my face when they talked about the pterodactyl ghost. This franchise was my childhood and the origin of the horror fan I am today. Great stuff, I really look forward to seeing more (Brilliantly casted too)
@@scoob2300 that's what we call "Teen Drama" magic. There is almost no teen drama shows where the actors are actually children... and that's because these actors are usually put in certain situations that it wouldn't be appropriate to record and profit off of. Teen drama utilizing young looking adults is much better than them utilizing minors and putting them in precarious sexual situations.
I love the concept of the hex girls being the “villains” when they were in the show, they were just clueless or just regular people so bring this and the really cool egg hunts was so cool. The acting is SO impressive, i love it. Though I’m not able to donate, i hope to see episode 2 very soon!
They might be a misdirection. They said they were serving High Priestess Van Ghoul. And in the 13 Ghosts of Scooby Doo, Vincent Van Ghoul was guarding a chest containing 13 demons, and when they escaped he was leading the effort in recapturing them. So they might be not bad.
I literally freaked out throughout all of this, I love every reference, the interweaved plot of combining lore from all different iterations of scooby, and the end twist sent me into a fit of joy I still can't contain. This is absolutely perfect I am so happy right now
I love that Scooby is in this, even if he can't talk. He still feels like Scooby in a way and he's treated like an actual character.

@@Snowifying My heart goes out to you at least you didn't walk away blind from it..

(Also the actresses absolutely nail the song!)
8) The 13 pillars Velma mentions are likely a reference to the 13 ghosts of Scooby Doo.
9) Fred deciding to split up with Velma just as he does in most Scooby Doo media (also they make a great duo in this)
10) Miner 49er is a classic scooby doo where are you! villain. Another obvious one.
11) Shaggy making a giant, multilayered sandwich toward the end of the episode.
12) Thorn speaks of 'high priest Van Ghoul', a reference to Vincent Van Ghoul from 13 ghosts. (Also the person on the phone to Velma's mother sounds somewhat like Vincent Price... coincident?)
13) The black knight ghosts brief cameo at the end.
14) As suggested, his lawyer is Harvey Birdman (how did I even miss that?...)

We need the next episode and the full 13 episodes, possibly more if you have more stories to tell. This is amazing for an adult scooby doo and got so many references in just one episode.

I love how organic fred and velma's early friendship is. That's just so sweet. Cant wait to see more!
I agree, it was awesome to see their growing friendship centered that way.
I loved the characterization for all four "meddling kids"... it added a lot of depth to them while still feeling true to the original show, and with none of the overly-cynical grimdark stuff that's so popular lately. It still feels like Scooby-Doo, only on a deeper level.
@@FumbleAIBO yeah I feel so bad for shaggy and daphne! One having to be beautiful and perfect while the other is clearly struggling with addiction and bullies, wow. Cant wait to see their growth as they all become friends
I'm not necessarily a fan of the whole "edgy" aspect shows are going for these days. But since it's Scooby-Doo, I gave it a chance. I can't say I love it... But I certainly didn't hate it. It kept me interested, and I loved that they used actual villains and characters from the animated seasons of the show. It managed to go its own route while still remaining faithful to the source material.

I was a huge fan of Scooby-Doo growing up and I still love it even now. First episode in and I am already a huge fan! The characters are really well fleshed out and I can tell the actors are passionate about the project. Great storytelling and directing all around. The Hex Girls was the cherry on top.

Welcome....get ready to get hooked :)

There is an adult-oriented HBO series of Velma that is currently in the making, Mindy Kaling is planned for the role of Velma, which received backlash from critics!

Had this production been made with a 200 million dollar budget with known Hollywood stars released on Netflix I would probably have been disappointed with what I just watched. @@jerryterwase9027 I want you to know that I understand your percpective. A low budget horror/mystery with a bunch of no name actors should not be expected to be knock your socks off amazing.
Neither a bigger budget or better actors would have made this Scoobydoo.
