  • The change from glam to grunge and the Pearl Jam gig at Limelight NYC April 1992 and the change from glam to grunge. The larger than life magic of the rock and roll stars disappeared in a snap ……
rock and roll is dead, long live rock and roll.

I was fortunate enough to be at this show. It was, and still is, a top-3 favorite show of all time for me. I was a huge Mother Love Bone fan, and I followed their progression into Pearl Jam and scored tickets through a buddy. Just as you suggest, it was jam packed - I remember seeing Duffy from MTV up on the catwalk, behind the stage. The opener was a band called Eleven - and just as their set finished, the crowd just got tighter and pushed towards the stage. Such a great show...man, to be 21 again, with no cares in the world and seeing a new favorite band just on their rise...it was damn near perfect.

I agree! It was one of those special shows at limelight. Intense curiosity and heavy media attention and promotion paired with a rabid crowd. Like you I was a big mother love bone fan and was very curious to see what they sounded like live. Thanks for watching! 🙏

Road Dog 😂😂 that is actually perfect even though how much I miss that glam era... the good glam.. " grunge killed Rock and roll but it needed killing " 😂😂 sad but sooo true!!! "Cherry Pies " what it was coming down to.. 😅😅 perfectly Said considering the great mark it made in Rock history. Great stuff hear thank you for sharing I hope if everything aligns right for the right reasons and greater good,... your stories can be told to much wider audience. Such a huge interest still.. stay well Road Dog...🤟🎸keep rockin rollin'!!

Great perspective! Title should be "How Grunge Killed Hair Metal". As a fan of both hair metal and mid-90's grunge (STP, Pearl Jam/ Green Day) I've said the same thing. Hair metal collapsed under its own weight. Too many copycat bands. The worst was when hair metal bands "tried" to change their sound/look to be like grunge bands.

Thank you. I agree! The hair metal bands that tried to be grunge was just sad. And bad ! Thanks for watching!

@@beforeiforget1985 That must of been a good show! That lineup was amazing and on the cusp of stardom. I never liked Eddie’s bs but his voice is truly one of a kind.

I feel the same way about Pearl Jam. I went to a concert on their second album tour just to hear “Ten”. 😂

I'll never forget Mike Schnapp at Epic partying with the Danger Danger guys, wearing 1 of their leather jackets with the band logo on the back, everyone celebrating & laughing it up....& then maybe 6 months later wearing a flannel shirt & partying with any given grunge band signed to the label?! Not knocking him, just part of the job I would think? Very accurate insight, I know I WASN'T at Limelight THAT night! 😁👍

This was FASCINATING. I really get off on stories about the inner workings of the business. This was a perspective I haven't heard before. I often hear the same story told from every perspective, but this was just really fresh - especially the part about Kurt Cobain. I never bought the BS about him not wanting to be a star. Like he got to the top of the game by accident. Give me a break! Finally somebody shot it straight! 😆😆😆
But I really respect the vision that Pearl Jam had for themselves. You have to have that kind of ego to pull off that kind of a statement... and just deal with the enemies you make along the way. And it was a GREAT statement. The hyper-sexualizing of women could never just die a little death. It had to be brutal murder, and Eddie had the balls to do it. I happen to love Pearl Jam. 😘

After I got into Soundgarden's Loud Love album in 89 I had a feeling that the Seattle sound aka "grunge" was going to become more popular in the next few years. Didn't expect just how big it became of course. That was still a surprise. Definitely didn't think it would be Nirvana or Pearl Jam leading the pack either. I still listen to Soundgarden, Mudhoney, and Screaming Trees.

Interesting stuff! Great video! One question, and a comment though…. I agree with Nikki Sixx, Pearl Jam was to me, a really boring band, absolutely no substance to their music. But to me that grunge stuff, just had no substance. One man’s opinion. My question is was Pearl Jam anti girls too? LOL Seems to me they were anti everything. There’s a reason these bands like them aren’t around anymore.
