Bus driver awake for 24 hours, doing a 20 hour trip from Galveston to Denver non stop after a spring break show. This was before drivers were regulated on how long they could drive in one shift. He was so exhausted, he was almost a ghost as we barely made it through the frozen mountain storm. We almost didn’t make it to Denver!

Austin, TX to Castle Rock, Co (30 minutes south of Denver) is a very long drive, I do it every year in one shot, about 13/14 hours not stopping, but, like you said, stops have to be made, that adds an hour or so. Galveston is at least 4 hours from Austin. Fighting thru Houston traffic, forget about it, another hour at least These are car times, a bus, forget it, that is slow rollin' compared to a car. You gain an hour on the clock, that doesn't mean your ass wasn't in that seat driving.

My dad was an over the road truck driver. I once drove home with him on an hour drive and he was lit. It was a pretty bad snow storm and remember asking him you ok? He said without hesitation YUP! He said the trick is when you drink, drink whiskey and water, when you drive don't look at the white lines they'll put you to sleep. I hear that everytime I hit the road for a long amount of time. I did Florida to Philly in 13.5hrs. My in laws live upstate 3 to 4hr trip I'll visit but I don't stay so it's usually a morning start and getting home in the wee hours of the morning. Much respect to bus and truck drivers. No one gets their contribution to the everyday. I get everything you were saying. My oldman never took drugs God rest his soul. I have heard amazing stories of what he could do with a semi. He taught me alot about driving. My wife asked him when he was passing, how many siblings I really had. He laughed and said I'll never tell! Life on the can be a beautiful thing but it can also be a dangerous and scary thing. Sounds like you had a great driver regardless of what he was on!

The guys from Helix finished a tour with the Scorps in Texas and got the offer to back up Dio in Toronto a couple days later so they drove straight thru from Texas to Toronto. Talk about a stupid long drive. lol Unfortunately their guitarist Paul Hackman was killed a few years later when their driver (not the same driver from the Texas jaunt) fell asleep on the Couquihalla Highway in the middle of the night. My own band was involved in a crash outside of Marathon Ontario at 2:30 in the morning in December of '95. We all lived but spent the night in the hospital and wrote off the truck. I've never been that scared in my life. For all the travelling that touring bands do, it's amazing that there aren't even more horror stories. Great vid, bro. Thanks for sharing!🤘

that's crazy man. When I was in college, I drove from Wichita, KS to Charleston, SC and I had to stop at least 1 night because I was seeing stars after 13 or 14 hours, but I didnt use uppers... just coca cola and candy. That's a God send though on your end though... waking up right when he was in zombie mode. Great story man! Cant wait for next video!!
