  • In this video I polish a batch of rocks in my Raytech Tumble-Vibe TV10 to see how they compare to polished rocks from my Thumler’s Ultra-Vibe 18. I was a little surprised by the results.

    I love your channel! I'm new to tumbling so your videos are super helpful! I just ordered this tumbler! I have 4 of the larger National Geographic ones now and for the amount of rocks I want to tumble I need something bigger lol 😆 I'm in Southeast Texas. These stones all look amazing! Even the matte ones, they are absolutely gorgeous! Anyways, thanks for doing a review for this machine!

      You are most welcome Jess! Thank you for watching! 😁 The TV-10 can give you great results but it takes a little getting used to. Make sure and load it properly with your rocks and ceramics, and also make sure your rocks are the right size and shape. Good luck down there in Southeast Texas!

    Raytechs noise and little mess isn't that much of a problem when the rocks come out with that nice shine 👍Such a bummer that they dried up on the one night. Your rocks are so beautiful :) Thanks for sharing and putting a ID to them😊

    Just getting into this tumbling stuff and thinking if I get some of that dried white polish/cement I would try cleaning them with grout release and a brass brush. Good videos

    • @spwinaustin
      @spwinaustin  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It turns out the white stuff is pretty easy to remove with an ultrasonic cleaner. I just let them run with some warm sudsy water and the grit just bubbles away. Another option is to bathe the stone in mineral oil, which darkens the white grit and makes it less visible. Thanks for watching the video!

      Hi Susan! I use 220, 600, and 1500 grit SC for two days a piece and then finish with 2 days with 14,000 grit AO. That’s of course after time in the rotary tumbler coarse grit for the initial shaping. Good luck!

    VERY NICE In frame @ 7:37 That rock is BIF banded iron formation, it is made of hematite and chert. I have gotten a very good shine with my rotary tumbler. In the " UP " of Michigan Upper peninsula there is allot of that rock. So would you recommended that Raytech or some other tumbler ?

    • @spwinaustin
      @spwinaustin  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Daniel, thanks for watching! I’ve had issues with all the brands that I’ve used but based on spare parts availability I’d recommend Raytech over Thumlers. My current favorite is the Raytech Adjusta-Vibe 18. Check out my playlists and under the equipment review category I have a newer review of the vibratory tumblers.

    Gorgeous rocks! Sad about the dry-out deal😥 What do you think about washing those stones with dawn dish soap and borax for -maybe a day and then washing them real good? Just a question, I'm still learning so I don't know if that would help 😃 Great rocks and video as always, thanks.

    • @spwinaustin

      I could have scrubbed them clean with enough effort for I think using an ultrasonic cleaner is the best approach. Actually the best approach is to make sure the batch doesn’t dry out in the first place! 😆

    I understand that this is Raytech review, but do you have a review for the diamond pacific mini sonic vib? With all the vibs from all the vendors on backorder, I ended up ordering the MT14 from diamond pacific. Won't come in for another 6 weeks. So of course, I'm looking for reviews and processes for that machine.
    Beautiful stones, flaws and all! lol Great job on these videos!

      Hello my friend. I probably will put out some sort of video specific to the little guy but I don’t use it that often now that I have the other two. If you watch my shop tour/tumbler review video from a couple of months ago you will get a little taste of my feelings about it. I actually have it running right now with some labradorite. Hopefully with it in low power mode I can get some really smooth stones. Thanks so much for watching! I have seen many if your videos and enjoyed them. The first one I saw was when you and your family went rock hounding in my neck of the woods, Llano.

    Scott, I finally purchased the Raytech tumble vibe TV10 during Christmas time but have not used it yet. I was wondering if you could share your 8-day step on polishing using it. I also noticed that you was using non-abrasive ceramic media in yours even though the instructions say not to use it. I was wondering how well it works with it and if you had any problems. I put it all together but I did a few modifications to it that I hope will not allow it to leak and make a mess like you showing your video. Their instructions aren't the best and there's no other videos available out there I've seen better than yours. I don't know how much grit to use or how much water that I remember you saying that it dried up on you overnight. Thank you for the help.

    • @spwinaustin
      @spwinaustin  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Bob. I did find a simple solution for the leaking mess. I use a neoprene washer that fits tightly around the threaded shaft and I put it on first before the large metal/neoprene washer that comes with it. I don’t think you’ll have any issues with any type of ceramic media you use. The instructions make no sense considering the bowl is designed to have a bunch of hard rocks tumbling inside. Keep the rocks moist enough to form a slurry. It takes surprisingly little water and my best advice is just to keep an eye on it until you get a good feel for it. I wish you the best!

      @@spwinaustin the instructions were confusing for me as well concerning ceramic media as they say both you can and cant use it...
      I think what they mean is ceramic media like what we use is fine. But the ceramic media with grit in it is not, like the stuff used in industrial vibe machines. (Its ceramic and grit combined, so as the ceramic wears it exposes more grit)

    I have a 13 ounce LSA I can’t imagine putting into a rotary tumbler. Do you think this could handle an agate of this size/weight if I filled it with a lot of ceramics?

    • @spwinaustin
      @spwinaustin  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi, and thanks for watching! It would depend upon the dimensions but I’ve gotten fairly large stones polished in my 18 pound bowl. Of course I rotary tumble all my stones first in the coarse grit to get them to the shape and size I desire. Good luck!

    I have been using two different models for several years and never had that issue, the noise issue can be reduced by putting a rubber edge on the bowl and lid.

      Hi, thanks for watching! Think of stage one as the shaping stage. It’s strictly a personal preference. Keep repeating the stage until you are happy with the shape. The shine will come from the following stages. I like my stones to be very smooth so I sometimes keep them in stage one for months.
