    Love the new Yaris definitely a huge improvement over the previous model but 32k is a pretty steep especially for a Yaris and considering you can get a mid spec Corolla or Focus for a similar price. Also if I wanted a small hatchback I’m either spending 30k on a Fiesta St or 19k on a Swift. But Toyota knows their market better than me so they done for a reason

    Just wondering - in Europe they use 95 RON unleaded for this car and most others. Did you use 91 RON unleaded for these performance tests and if so, would using 95 RON (or even 98 RON?) make any performance (or fuel economy) differences? Thank you.

    • @PDriveTV
      @PDriveTV  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, We almost always use 98 RON. However, a lot of the time the manufacturer fills the car before we test it - we don’t know what fuel they put in. Hope that helps.

    Interesting the hybrid doesn't rev as high. I wonder if this was intentional so it wasn't going to be too much quicker than the non-hybrid... and also to ensure it will always get better fuel economy?

    • @ggtontoyono
      @ggtontoyono 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Toyota did that since 2012 when it updated the software of the Prius. The engine doesn't rev as high since then, 'for quietness', but produces a bit less power

    • @or2kr
      @or2kr 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The hybrid is constantly running with the Atkinson cycle while the petrol only uses it in medium load scenarios, but can rely on the normal cycle in high load scenarios to get more power out of basically the same engine. Also, the hybrid engine is focused more on efficiency, which is why it has 41% thermal efficiency while the petrol engine "just" has 40%

    This would have made for an interesting drag race. The hybrid would have got off the mark quicker but the petrol would have clawed its way back by the 400m line. Driver dependent of course.

  • @aidan1585
    @aidan1585 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    The Yaris hybrid is the far better car to drive, although the engine doesn’t put out as much torque as the 1.5 non-hybrid, the electric motor adds so much more making it feel more like a 1.5 diesel than a 1.5 petrol.
    The 1.5 sounds stupidly loud compared to the 1.5 hybrid when under full acceleration

    • @yuribudilov5638
      @yuribudilov5638 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, agreed. I have just driven the pure-petrol Yaris hatch and I would not buy it. Petrol version was too noisy and it felt gutless in lower suburban speeds (0-60kmh and even 80kmh). Hybrid is also slow but it drives vastly better at lower speeds than petrol variant and at the same time hybrid is quieter and a lot more economical. The only disadvantage is ~$2000-$3000 price difference which would pay for itself inside 5-years new car warranty period, given AUD$2 per litre price. In Europe they hardly sell any of non-hybrid Toyotas, most of them are hybrids now.
