  • Prevention is cheaper than the cure...
    Although not massively common on these engines, we have seen many swirl flaps get ingested by the engines causing dire consequences.
    As we will be pushing this 3.0 TDI engine pretty hard, we thought it would be a good idea to remove the flaps to prevent any possible problems in the future.
    To makes things even easier we have put together a full kit (listed below) and annotated this video, so it can also be used as a guide.

    Nice video guide. Where was this 2 years ago ? :D My swirl flaps developed a fault or the actuator (could have been either)..Decided to order a complete refurbished inlet manifold kit from Germany with upgraded swirl flaps and replace them myself. Never done anything that complicated mechanically so it took me 12hrs in a freezing garage with a really bad lighting and + I couldn't find any good guides like this :D So simply started unscrewing/removing stuff that was in the way - what a pain it was to wiggle them out lol
    Since then I have not had any issues with them within the last 2 years. Yaay !

Then they assume that if all the emmissions crap is fitted as from factory and the engine light isn't on then the emmissions will probably be ok when the car is driven.
      It is a load of bullshit. Based on statistics.
      To measure the emmissions you need to put the machine in the back of the car and take it for a drive.
      The fine is for tampering, you could actually get fined and your vehicle being driven around is staying below the emmissions limits.

    Ripped all mine off, and smashed dpf core out , mapped flaps and motors and dpf out... drives silky smooth now .. once one part goes bad it’s a knock on effect , faulty flaps mean dpf won’t regenerate, then will eventually fuck your turbo also .

    • @mrgrey9584
      @mrgrey9584 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @MIKE OXLONG yes you cut it open and smash out the ceramic core, then weld it back up . It’s a labor intensive job on these cars as it’s by the bulk head.. and have to take loads of things off to get the dpf and intake manifolds off .
      I live in the Isle of Man , so we don’t have MOT inspections
      If I was you I’d spend the money getting it done, it’s just lots of stuff that’s not needed on your car to go wrong
      You could just do the dpf delete, and then have the flaps switched off via a map. But it’s better to rip the lot off , dpf gone / flaps gone / actuators motors gone/ then a good remap .

      I have Phaeton 3.0 TDI and about to do the same thing. I will remove Manifolds and they are bolted / sealed in 2 halfs. you open the plastic manifold like a sandwich and clean inside. I will use isoropyl alcohol after the main bit is scraped out to make it clean as new again. Then use some Wynns gasket maker (or some of your choice) and seal the manifolds up like a sandwich again and bolt back together. I would remove EGR valve on this job 100%! unbolt motor off the valve and then leave the valve in the 100% alcohol for a while and scrub it well clean! Use Mr Muscle oven cleaner (Sodium hydroxide) if you wish. I hope this helps. I think EGR can be beneficial in keeping the combustion chamber cool as long as they are cleaned after some time. I pulled mine out Sunday and it was pointless, dirty but not blocked at all. The DPF regen works 100% as long as everything else is in order. All the above may be worse than VW out the factory just because all the sensors are entwined like a brain and when you mess around removing stuff the ECU needs a remap to be running good again. Please keep me updated Im interested. The Hex 5mm bolts for the inlet manifold are Ally. Go careful! I rounded 2 of them and they were a pain! M6 x 45mm may upgrade to torx head stainless bolts.
