  • Australia is home to a very decent collection of launch coasters, but there are two that stand out above the rest. There’s the raw power of the famous Intamin Accelerator, Superman Escape, and the modern sleeper hit that is Dreamworld’s newest signature coaster, Steel Taipan. It’s time for another coaster showdown, and in today’s episode, it’s magnetic versus hydraulic. Mack versus Intamin. Dreamworld versus Movie World. Today we finally decide what is Australia’s best launch coaster: Steel Taipan or Superman Escape. This is the ultimate showdown of launch roller coasters: Steel Taipan and Superman Escape.

    100% Superman Escape for me. Taipan has some great moments (the drop off the midcourse being my favourite) but Superman just hits harder. From preshow to launch to ejector airtime hills, Superman is a sleeper hit among enthusiasts and my favourite coaster in Australia. The first ride I ever had was a few months after my first ride on DC Rivals and just when I was becoming an enthusiast. My sister and I got assigned to the front row and that was a ride that I don't remember, but one I will never forget.

    Superman escapes queue is being renovated, and they’re getting rid of those abysmal lockers apparently!

    I highly appreciate the points you made about both of the rides. The ride operations is also a very worthy topic that I wish VRTP would take into more consideration. Overall, being able to do your own restraints on Superman whilst the staff come around to check is quick, but the feedback I would give the park is to hire another ride operator on Superman, especially when it's running two trains. That way, ride operators can be checking restraints and sending the train, while a ride attendant checks heights and assigns riders into gates, similar to DC Rivals.

    I’m on the fence with this one, before I’d ridden either of these (I did in late 2022) I rode the likes of rockin roller coaster and the hulk (universal) so decent launches where not that new to me. While Superman’s pre-show and launch into top hat are amazing I can’t remember much else of the ride other than that it was almost over. Steel taipan feels more complete with the incredible 0 g-role and even the ok backwards launch. Steel taipan felt more like a complete coaster whereas Superman felt more like an adrenaline rush you get on a drop tower. Both incredible coasters easily 3rd & 4th in Australia imo.

    I have done stealth and rita in the UK and the launch on them, particularly stealth, is incredible. I expect superman's launch to feel somewhere between the two.

    Just a suggestion you should do TNT vs Project 0 (Gumbuya world)

    Superman Escape without a doubt. But if they gave ST a bit more oomph on the final launch to give airtime on the top hat, then I’d still give it to Superman, but I’d be a happier man.

    Nothing can beat Superman escape it’s just the og and best in Australia

    I'd have to go with ST myself, mainly because of Superman's short length and awful queuing experience (cattle pen + slow ops + no phones + stuffy room = yuck!)

    This was really intresting, when I visited movie world a few weeks ago in December Superman were running two trains! Same with steel taipan on my last visit in April 2022 they were running two trains! Maybe you just got unlucky lol

      I guess I'll find out, I'm heading up there tomorrow! I have seen both run with two trains in the past, but they definitely don't do it as much as they should

    i've seen superman work with 2 trains, they just wait until the second train has entered the unload platform before sending the first train. absolutely terrible

      Agreed, it completely defeats the purpose

      @CalebKam 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      They have to, or else you stack at the launch, which will easily freak the GPs out.

      The whole point of adding an extra block zone with an unload platform was to speed up dispatches. Superman has 4 block zones and only 2 trains, it shouldn't have any troubles dispatching at a decent rate when on 2 train operations

    • @CalebKam
      @CalebKam 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      AFAIK, they have 3 blocks operationally: Load, pre show, and launch to unload. I’ve been on a cycle where the unload was a little bit behind and we slowed right down before we got hooked onto the launch catapult.
      Yeah they might 4 or more programmed block but they would all be in the preshow. There’s no blocks between final brakes and the unload platform.
      FWIW, they can mostly get the train grouped and loaded by the time the train in unload ready to move forward.
      Make no mistake, I agree the operation at parks under VRTP is terrible and superman is no different.

    The points you made on steel taipan can be valid, but my recent visits to dreamworld the operations on steel taipan can get very slow considering that they mostly run one train and dont push out the train/s very fast because of seatbelts, but it doesnt matter too much because of Dreamworlds small waits (as you mentioned.). However ive noticed Superman escapes ride departure system is very efficient considering the locker system which eliminates the need to deposit items.They can offload trains extremely quickly also due to guests being able to do up seatbelts and pull down harnesses themselves, resulting in a quicker safety check. Sometimes supermans dispatches can be 30-40 seconds with the desired amount of operators. I do notice the unreliability of the hydraulic launch however, so i understand why. Great video, truly an underrated channel.

    Superman escape is objectively a better coaster, but if i had to choose to ride either one, I would choose steel taipan. The length, inversions, and operations make it a better experience for me, but the launch and theming on superman is incredible

    i absolutely hate superman himself and anything he really touched. hated bvs purely because he was in it. i dislike the character that much. but in saying that, superman is my winner purely on the launch, with an added bonus in the preshow. its also the only one of the coasts big coasters bar levi and GL that dont give me a headache
