    I supposed a practical way of trying to break the smiler record is to make a mobius loop dueling coaster with 8 inversions on each side. That way the ride is long but you can also do some creative things with the dueling, like what's done on Twisted Colossus.

    the smiler was my favourite coaster at alton towers, i was lucky to be put in the front seat (as terrified as i was) which i hear is the smoothest. I also dont get motion sick, so being flipped around constantly was actually very enjoyable. galactica second, wickerman third. i think the smiler only gets away with 14 inversions because of the clever theming. the extremely industrial theme with the giant spider structure gives it my favourite theming (until they hopefully refurbish galactica... poor puddle)

    Velocicoaster is still as amazing as when I first rode it years ago. Great experience with no memorable roughness when I've been on the front and back rows, and yes that Mosasaurus is more insane that it looks, you are actually thrown with force out of your seat into the lap bar restraint it's amazing.
    Shoutout to Iron Gwazi though, it was my first and still currently the only RMC I've been able to ride and with my first experience I was at a loss for words on how smooth a rollercoaster could be, the entire thing is just silky smooth the whole way with no jitters or bumps and that part blew me away just as much as the ride itself, and the smoothness was still there a year later. Why we don't have an RMC anywhere in the UK is really annoying though. It doesn't have to be anything super big or special just please any RMC xD

      @@Q4Coasters There is one thing I've just found kind of interesting about what I've seen and heard about Velocicoaster's Intensity. My Dad and I rode it together and we had complete polar opposite opinions where I loved everything about it and he hated everything about it. And my mom standing at the exit was hearing complete opposite opinions from those who've rode it saying it was the best and those saying never again.
      Though the one thing that puzzled me was my Dad and someone else who we met that said Hulk is a way less intense ride which I cannot fully understand as Hulk really pushes on you hard with the forces at times. I guess maybe because there's little breaks between each part while Velocicoaster is a continuous adrenaline rush but doesn't have that same strong punch as hulk. I don't know if that makes any sense.
      Btw not saying Hulk is bad it's great but I would definitely consider it more punchy in it's forces

    They come in and out of style. The biggest coasters were all loopers back in the 1980s, then "hypercoasters" came along and for a while they usually had no inversions. But lately things have been changing back.
    The coaster with the most inversions I've ridden is Dragon Khan at PortAventura which has 8, and they're all really forceful, and I came off dizzy and thinking it was too many. If they'd let off the last couple I think it would have been perfect for me.
    I like the way RMC does it with their hybrids-- they're mostly focused on crazy airtime but they put in 3 or 4 rolls or stalls to sort of add variety. It's a nice balance.

    The act of inverting itself is really just not that interesting to me, it's what it makes the riders feel that can make an inversion good. It's why I don't like B&Ms much. Yeah I'm inverting, but all B&Ms do is either make you feel nothing, or make you feel positive Gs. Hangtime and airtime are nonexistent on their rides, which makes their inversion spam especially boring.
    Much like with airtime hills, turns, turnarounds, etc it's the shaping of the track and the speed at which you take it that determines whether an inversion is good or not. Helix's norwegian loop is awesome because it stomps you into your seat while the rest of the ride is more airtime focused, which makes it a nice change of pace. I also love Zadra's stall because of the unreal size of the thing.

    • @Q4Coasters
      @Q4Coasters  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You are so right for this! I feel like a lot of american B&M inverts are quite plain and while they might serve in forces they dont have much theming and are missing that near miss element that we have a lot of the time in europe and the UK. I still think Nemesis reborn and Black Mamba at Phantasia land are the best examples of inverts because of how close you get to everything around you. I love B&M coasters here in the UK because we are lacking in space so they are always forced to do something more creative than just plonk it on a space of land! I think RMC's are a great example of how to do inversions right but I am still a sucker for wing coaster inversions I JUST LOVE HANGTIME :O

    Smiler for me is an experience in and of itself. Almost like how a flat ride might aim to disorient.
    Do I think it's the hallmark of good coaster design? No. Do I enjoy it for what it is? Yes.
    I think there are coasters that are demonstrably worse off for chasing inversion records, but inversions definitely can have their place. I can't imagine nemesis without inversions, it would be such a different ride experience.
    But I also don't think inversions are necessary for thrill. I very much don't agree with people who say Taron needs an inversion.

      @Q4Coasters  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      totally agreed! you make some great points not every coaster needs inversions like i discussed but I didn't mean that we don't need them at all.
      Like any element we need variety for it to be enjoyable and anyway different people like different things meaning some will prefer airtime over positive or negative G's.
      But I love that you mentioned Taron that's a great example that I should have used in my video tbh ahahaha!

    I was willing to believe this for a bit until you started talking about loving the prelift sections...is this rage bait? For people (like me) who prefer positive Gs over airtime, inversions are almost necessity. Without them, every non-airtime-focused coaster would just be a Giovanola hyper.
