Johnny's reaction to some of these things done to him were also out of line, but as in most cases its interesting who initiates the actual conflict most times they meet one another.
A subtle detail that I loved is that Ali is no longer in the flashbacks. Now it's just about Johnny and Daniel's natural rivalry, the girl between them is no longer there because of the season 3 closure. Great writing.
Also the sad part is that Johnny doesn’t make it by the end of season 4. Because someone put a car bomb inside his vehicle. When Miyagi Do and Eagle Fang dojos start uniting for the national tournament, suddenly someone rigged Johnnys car and it blows up and everyone in both dojos are devastated as they lost Johnny. Their unifier. And both Daniel and Dutch have to set aside their differences and face Kreese and Terry of Cobra Kai and Charlie and Nate of Alpha Elite dojos.

This scene and Daniels training montage makes you realize that while in the movies, it was easy to view johnny as an asshole and Daniel as the hero, the truth is, they were assholes to each other. From Johnnys point of view, Daniel was an unlikable jerk that was asking for a beating. Sure Johnny gave Daniel grief, but they both did the wrong things that lead to feelings of anger towards each other. Both of them were and are hotheads!
