Is Vic There? was fantastic, a deserved hit. I bought Going Left Right, and then I Want... and I wondered why the hell they wern't also big hits. Underrated bigtime.
Superb. And I thought they were a one hit wonder. Really surprising that they didn't do more in the UK, perhaps 'Vic' wasn't the best choice for 1st single, given Britain's disdain for 'novelty' records. 'She Blinded Me With Science' had the same effect on Thomas Dolby's career. Great, tight band though, very impressive. I'm not a drummer but he looks pretty sharp. Thanks for another excellent YT posting.
At last!!! I remember listening to this song on the radio thirty years ago; I did not know the tittle or the name of the band; but the music lingered in my memory. And, today at last, I have just been able to find it here (searching with Google - "I Want" "but I'm asking" - and presto!!!!!). Thank you, thank you.
Alright! Both this & "Is Vic There" - fantastic songs & great memories. I fondly remember these 45's but have never seen the videos until now. Will youtube wonders never cease?
I have this single. Never bought much music - no money - but I had to have this one! So great to see a video!! I loved and love this song, lyrics, music, and singer!!!
I only Department S track I knew is 'Is Vic there?' - which I love - but this is fantastic. Better come to it late than not at all. Good views of the GW mainline and Trellick Tower, BTW!
@@shadowalfie11 Yes, I know it well - you'll find me in Elkstone Road every Aug Bank Hol for Notting Hill Carnival. The HSTs are a nice nostalgic touch...

WOW those lyrics are so premonitory with today's world!! I used to love Dept S back then and watching this clip so many years later I still LOVE them!
Absolutely outstanding. Vaughn Toulouse, you are greatly missed xx
Brilliant song ...Rip Vaughn Toulouse talent man
Had no idea they filmed a promo video for this. Fantastic.
Whoo ! That was dynamic !!! This is a band that certainly deserved more attention !
"I Want" was the 3rd Dept S single. Solid Gold Easy Action was the B-Side of 'Vic'. This single was a European Number 1.
I remember Is Vic There? and this. Wasn't Solid Gold Easy Action a T Rex song?
Going Left Right - I remember now! Found the other one.

When this clip came up, thought it was a clip of the 70's espionage series with Peter Wyngarde !!!!
the band was named after the show, starring wyngarde?

Never ever heard this before. It's great.
I bought this song as a single a long time ago (the records used to be called 45's or 33's for albums). First time I've seen the video.
