Love how you explain what your are doing and how it is going to progress to accomplish what you want. You are a great craftsman who is also becoming a fine teacher. It is a pleasure attending your boat work shop school! Thanks for the lessons!
I'd like to add that your video and editing skills are superb! I love watching your interesting videos, even the cute, little lawn mower (I want one!). Take care sweet family!
Like a very fine wine I save the best for first. Doesn't matter if I maybe watching another channel I immediately switch to Ran Sailing, I don't want it to age to much😊
There has been a very good connection over the years (and it’s still ongoing to this day) between Canada and Sweden and your « treasure » is proof it. You can tell that the master shipbuilder « respects » the wood he uses as he gently strokes the freshly planned pieces. Your creativity in using the router to carve the temporary arches is commendable (bravo). Love the yard work scenes and the new gadget! Nice video 👍🇨🇦
Hey Captain... you speak very clearly - very accurately and much much better than many Americans..! You are appreciated and have many individuals who listen and follow your pursuits. Please continue with your directions.
All ways thought the keel bolts came from the top of the mast. When I sailed on ocean youth clue boat mainly years a go. I was 17 was asked to go to top of mast to check the keel bolts. 😂😂😂😂 great times.
I have been following that HR 69 foot build since they announced it. HR quality, HR reliability, HR innovation, HR everything ❤ And all that lithium power, directly under the master bed 😅
What a beautiful summarisation of the past week. Nice and steady progress of your boat build. Good to see that the "inspector" was enjoying her time on the canals of Gothenburg. A few years ago, Götheborg III visited Karlstad, and I took the opportunity to climb onboard. I'm still in awe. You're doing a fantastic job around your homestead and saving some effort by getting a RoboMower. Please keep up your good work and look after eachother. Thanks for sharing. Greetings from Sweden 🇸🇪.
This episode had a little of everything, boat building, yard maintenance, boating, and boat show. Thank you! Ljuba is cool and will keep the lawn mowed while you are working on your boat. I think that was a good idea! Looking forward to next weeks video. 😎
Yes I liked it very much (sorry still no financial space yet to become patreon..but one day..). Always such a nice fibe and informative..gives me new energy as recently becoming a 38ft boat owner and life on my boat myself..so some stress still😅..but after watching your video I always feel energized and continue my adventure with a smile😊❤
Great job Johan, you can really see the build coming along nicely. Wow, love your little robot, amazing.Nice to get out with friends on the water. Oh what fun rowing on the water, lol. So much fun. Love the vlog :)
Watching you ripping and planing cedar has not gotten old up to now - it's my Friday evening treat. What made me laugh though is the presentation of Ljuba! (And interesting to see "Öppet Varv" in Ellös - we'll try to show Akka her birthplace next year! ) So: nice episode! Thanks!
The keel area looks quite technical, between multiple materials and complex shapes. I like the robot lawn mower, a great timesaver, important when there's so much to do and you want to prioritise time with family and the boat build.
I hope this episode was videoed a while back. I just read this morning there were four explosions in Gothenburg and other Swedish cities overnight related to gang violence. The article said no one was injured, but not all injuries are visible! Stay safe and carry on!
Great concept for the keel plate. Loved listening to your thought process. Also loved the robot lawn mower. Cute and functional. Would have loved to see you on board the Brigantine and look around. The HR 69 is something else 😮😊👍🏻 Just the battery and inverter/charger area was impressive. 🎉🎉🎉 See you next time.✨ 🌊 💨 ⛵️ 🏝️ 👙 🌞 ✨
Pretty cool lawnmower! needs a flag or mascot or something - he he... Wow is the keel complicated, but I suppose it's got to transfer a lot of energy from sail to hull to keel to keep the boat from slipping sideways in the water. I wonder if anyone ever built an easy to swap keel, I suppose different kinds of sailing would warrant different kinds of keels. Being able to switch between shallow draft for coastal cruising to deep draft for passage making would be interesting. I suppose that's where the swing keel idea started. Another great episode, very interesting to see all the fancy woodworking stuff, almost looks as nice as RAN's woodwork ;-)
It's coming along nicely....love the boat show, I grew up in a big city on the great lakes in North America and enjoyed boat shows for 35 years while I was there. Got a question about the keel, you said it was welded on and I knew a couple who built a 70' steel hull boat which had a welded keel also and they had a huge problem with it that led to the sinking of the ship. They hit something with the keel and had a diver go down after to inspect the damage, there ended up being minor damage and a quick patch was welded on. Anyways what the diver missed was a hair line crack on the main weld that held the keel on so what ended happening over time was that the crack got longer and longer on a Atlantic crossing till the keel finally broke off with 10's of thousands of lbs of lead bars easily snapping it off which led to the sinking. I just remember him saying he had wished it was also bolted on as a safety measure. I see yours is a little different and if the keel broke you would still have a solid plate on the hull keeping her sealed up but it would still make it impossible to sail without a keel I would imagine. Just saying, everytime I hear of a keel welded on I think of their story and their ship 5000 feet down at the bottom.
Great explainer of keel. Consider carbon fiber for the keel plate and bow for added strength. See Duracell Project for carbon fiber work. Many thanks for everything.
Vacuum bagging: I am told that an old industrial refrigerator compressor makes a good vacuum pump as it can easily run all night while the epoxy cures.
Over the years of walking through boat repair yards, the number one thing that I've seen is Crack repair at the hull keel joint. I owned a hobie33 for more than 20 years. It had a retractable keel. The keel was essentially hung from large angle brackets and bolted in place. The well inside the hull was about 14" tall and just about 6" above water line. There was a cover sealed and bolted on top of the well. All through hulls were in that well above the water line. The keel side load was against the hull eliminating any leveraged damage at the hull keel joint. The keel could also be easily replaced if required. The keel was not any type of center board but contoured fiberglassed legitimate keel with a torpedo shaped bulb at the bottom. While your at this point in your building I think it would be something for your investigation. Ask your boats architect.
Great video (as usual!). I've been considering buying a robomower but unsure if it could handle our uneven lawns. Looks like Luba's handling yours really well!
Instead of laminating your own solid glass bed for the keel, have you considered using G10 epoxy board? 10mm would probably be too thick to bend to the curvature of the centerline but two layers of 4mm and then cloth over them would make a very strong base.
Interesting to see the difference between Western Red Cedar and Swedish Cedar. I live in the Pacific Northwest US (Oregon) and have built several fiberglass laminated western red cedar kayaks. Your sail boat uses exactly the same building techniques on a much larger scale. How do the two different woods compare? For sandwich laminate construction I am sure they are both excellent choices. Excellent work!
15:23 har bott i Comfort Hotellet under Partille Cup, bara hundra meter vänster från vyn i videon. Det svart tornet finns inte på google maps, någonstans på Olof Palmes plats?
are you using any carbon fiber in the keel pocket and inside for added strength ? probably not necessary just a thought,,,taking shape nicely ,, she looks like a fast hull 👍⛵👍 🛠
this maybe too late of an advice for you, but what you need is to borrow someone's bush hog (busksvin)that you can pull behind a tractor to cut the tall grass down the first time around.
Not to be disrespectful to Luba but a couple cows would have done just as good. They fertilize the soil And then you can harvest it. Thanks for another great chapter in your life.
Thank you RAN for 362...

Same! The calm building and video style are one of a kind.❤
I'd be a lot of us would buy those door stoppers to have a little bit of RAN II in our houses.
This is RAN III, RAN II was the Najad.😉
Funny, was thinking the same thing while watching this video

Luba will be a great way to fight the weeds until we can start planting more trees and make flower beds 🤗
A love waking up to these episodes each Australian Saturday morning. I wonder what my boat is doing?
Yes, to robot mower!
I should look into that!
The Backbone to the Hip Joint, This must give you some thoughtful moments in the, Spa
A typical day in a typical Swedish barn.. ;)
When the keel is done im looking forward to the dragonhead! 🙂
You should definitely consider installing cannons on Ran III. 😁😉
Now to get Luba to fibreglass the hull.🙂
😁😍
The hull is so beautiful that I hate to see it covered. Amazing work!
Thankyou 👍

GEART WORK and nice to see you taking time out as a family , every thing is really taking shape on the hull .👍👍👍
Spending time with you is always a joy. 😊

I know Swedish is your native tongue but I do thank you for going to extra effort to do your videos in English
Another great video !! The build is going great, the farm looks great, the tour was great.they family looks great!!
Fair winds ⛵️
A lovely slice of your lives. Thank you for sharing. 🎉😊
Amazing work you guys
Love your progress learnt so much about construction. Brilliant, thank you
I love watching your interesting videos. You guys make the days brighter. Thanks

Amazing! The continued work and Luba is rad!
All makes good sense.
I hope this episode was videoed a while back. I just read this morning there were four explosions in Gothenburg and other Swedish cities overnight related to gang violence. The article said no one was injured, but not all injuries are visible! Stay safe and carry on!
keep up the great work you are doing , i have been watching right from the start.
Looks like a good keel connection.
The robotic mower is slicker than snot on a doorknob.
If it wasn't for the rain it would have been a perfect day.
Jag är grymt imponerad av erat arbete.
Love your beautiful videos, with incredible editing skills 🥰👍👍👍⛵️⛵️⛵️

It was much better weather on the sunday showday.

I have one of them doing my yard. WORXS BEEN USING IT. FOR A YEAR.. Name my Gizmo.

Grass to cut. Goats are the answer
That would be something ☺️

man i'm not easily jealous..... but damn i'm jealous of building your own boat. fair winds y'all
no dust collection on the tablesaw?

Hey, you could probably combine Vera’s sweet 16 party with the boat launch christening ceremony 😳😳😳😳
let it go wild and just have Luba maintain a path through it
Well, that's how electric sheep look like...
That's what Androids dream of.
Will you be glassing over the steel plate? How will the keel be welded to it?
I hope there also keelboats nearer the keel itself. That plate will twist
Ooh ! Is Ran 3 allowed a cannon ? 😃🍻
You guys need to buy John Deere riding mower.
It´s unfortunate that Halberg Rassy still uses teak for the decks.

QUESTION: Have you considered using carbon fiber for the keel lamenent?
are you using any carbon fiber in the keel pocket and inside for added strength ? probably not necessary just a thought,,,taking shape nicely ,, she looks like a fast hull 👍⛵👍 🛠
😎
How did you get the camera on top of the hull?
How do you apply fiberglass on the strips adjacent to the keel at the transition point with the keel 22 mm fiberglass plate.
😃
this maybe too late of an advice for you, but what you need is to borrow someone's bush hog (busksvin)that you can pull behind a tractor to cut the tall grass down the first time around.
I guess cousa board is not available to you.?
💖💖💖
it will b little expencive , but why not using carbonfiber where strangth matter alot , like keel plated area and bow of the boat .
you really need a ride-on mower to cut all that lawn first
I think you could have already built a Harry proa 50 .
Man får inte segla i Göteborg, stämmer det?
You just take half swathes with the mower in long grass.
Hej hur lång tid kommer bygget at tage.
🧿👍
