Could not agree more, it’s all about the “type/condition” of the lawn, but mulching is good. On my two weekly cuts I do one mulch and then the following 2 weeks do a bag, seems to get the best of both worlds in terms of lawn health. Michael The Really Useful Gardening Company (Based in Essex)
I have a ride on mulching mower, and it cuts the lawn wonderfully. I also use a flail topper for managing my field. This gives a great cut (it is a form of mulching). I enjoy your videos, keep making them
Hi, nice video👍 I've a honda hrx. Basically cutting a lawn every two weeks, mulching is fine in dry conditions especially in the summer months. Once you reach the autumn months and the ground gets softer and the grass gets wetter I'd recommend switching the Honda to collect. If you try mulching in the wet, the mower leaves clumps of visible hrass and its also way harder on the engine and you will hear the engine struggling. Depending on thickness of the grass, you could try a half mulch/ a half collect which the hrx series allows which also saves you on collecting extra waste. That's my opinion on the hrx model which I've been using a long time which I think is the best walk behind mower on the market for doing every kind of lawn, big or small👍
I find mulching perfect when we have dry weather like this as it helps retain some moisture in the ground but as you say, sometimes mulching can cause more problems in the wetter seasons. I've just purchased a 22" Toro recycler that can mulch, bag and side discharge so now I've got the versatility, especially for some of my larger gardens.
Thanks Jordan, let me know how you get on with the Toro. I have looked at the time master in the past , some of my lawns are quite large. Surprised it’s not used more often by gardeners. All the best.👍🏻
@@maxwellsgrasscuttingservices I was actually looking at the time master as well, I'd probably go that route if I take on any larger gardens as it's the closest thing to a ride on... I think the only advantage my Toro has over my hayter 48 is the larger cutting width and side discharge, when it comes to the quality of cut I have to give to my hayter, especially with the rear roller
Just caught your channel. Excellent your hayter 46 best tool ever I bought 25 years. Drain at end of season squirt wd40 . I got her serviced last Saturday 4 guys in wanted to buy her. I do a bit of part time maintenance I really like your attitude may I say
I bought a dedicated mulching mower ( Weibang ) this year and I love it, time saver, excellent finish, to the point several customers said why aren't you using the brown bin anymore for the grass clippings!
The majority of the lawns i mulch/discharge clippings on are normally healthier than the ones i bag on. If i can get away without bagging most lawns i will. The only tricky ones are those fortnightly lawns that grow like crazy. Also for me side discharging when its wet is the cleanest option if im not bagging it. 👍
@@maxwellsgrasscuttingservices Absolutely pal, especially for the non irrigated/fertilised lawns. The biggest gamechanger for me though is definitely having a side discharge capable mower.
I have snapper mulcher ( variable speed) x blade on it . Its good . Normally use hayter 48 old style with large open shoot in back . Looking for a honda 537 as looks handy .
Great video mate. I love the thought of mulching and agree with nice weather and regular cuts it’s beneficial. I wouldn’t mulch the spring though as there’s a risk of spreading weed grasses such as poa. Unfortunately Iv experienced this.
good topic Rob .in Australia some contractors only mulch all year round with varying results , me I totally agree with you , mulching when dry and at a slightly higher setting . Ive had dedicated mulching mowers as there design allows more room for the grass to circulate and cut finer . As you know you have to be careful with mulching as the lawn over time can thatch ie the build up creating a spongy surface ,easily rectified by early spring scalping ( not buffalo ) thanks for another great vid
Thanks Scott, I am over the moon with the support. Really enjoyed your video on the subject of small commercial work close together. Lost a customer recently, got home and watched what you had to say, a game changer for me. Sometimes in life we can’t see the wood for the trees. Going to do a video about it , the simple things are what make us more efficient/ successful. All the best.👍🏻
you landed a nice little job there mate. I agree with you. We like to drop or collect depending on the circumstances and the quality we want to achieve. We don't have a mulcher but dropping short grass doesn't look much different to me eyes if dry.
Very interesting topic, good video though the music is agressive. I agree with you mulching wet lawn does not make a good work, though I mulch all the time as I have a large garden (3 000 m2)
I used to use my hrx on a huge lawn I have, and your right mulching in the wet is a no no, my hrx is now a chipper/shredder as the drive went last year, I mulch/shred all mt hedge clippings and create great compost
Thanks for watching and your comment. When the hrx stops working I too will use it as a mulching mower for the waste. I agree making compost is great and helps when weeding. All the best 👍🏻 Ps. I hear you create introductions? 👌🏻
I’ve never mulched a lawn. Never seen a benefit to it but then I’ve never really looked into it. Might give it a try to see the results. I never take waste away either.
I personally Mulch a good bit. However, you have to make an intelligent judgement when and when not to Mulch. Weather Pending. Regards Jim from J.S.G.S N.IRELAND. 🌞😎👍👍
It's trail and error with mulching lawns. I have lawns where I can mulching all year round even in the wet. You will get to know what lawn can and can't be mulched. This year I have mulch most of my lawns and some costumers did even know that I stopped bagging
Hi enjoyed your video, I'm having to buy a new mower, as I'm a professional gardener I was thinking of buying the Honda you have or a stilh 7 series, is the Honda hrx537 reliable? Is the self drive a weekness?
What do you think of robot mowers buddy. Constant mulch everyday. I've seen moss gradually disappear with them. Shame I have to go out with a lump hammer at night (sic)!!!! Robots will be trimming hedges soon lol😁 Great vid again.
Thanks for watching and your comment. I have never used a robot mower. I did see one working on a front lawn and thought wow, anyone could walk away with it.👍🏻
Hello Finlay. I have a minimum charge of £20 per cut for small lawn. Depending on size , access etc I increase the price. £25 £30 £40 £50 and so on. I do give a little discount for weekly cuts ie 34 cuts per season. I hope that helps. Rob.👍🏻

@@maxwellsgrasscuttingservices great thanks
I mulched my lawn every three days and ended up with small road stalls on my lawn 😬 I try to mulch as you say now when the conditions allow 👍🏻

I mulch with my Husqvarna 553se but only when dry & can cut regularly. Wet or too long bag it with Honda 👍🏻
Thanks for the comment Matt, your right, dry and often when mulching.

Side discharge rather than mulching for me. Imo a cleaner finish.

It saves on the waste rob of taking tones of grass away and you got to get rid off

Don't believe in mulching full stop.. Agree re large field exception.. Far too wet over "Summer" here in Preston.
