For the past 10ish years I’ve run a used pro audio gear ebay business as a side hustle. It allows me to try out awesome gear for the studio, sometimes keep it and sell it and make money. I also have done a tiny bit of voiceover work too, I should really try to do more. You’ve encouraged me to try a bit harder at the voiceover thing. Thanks!
@@pluginhoarder I second both above and the video advice. I have always wanted to be a comedian but i dont like my vibe on camera, this is something i can also excel in. and @therecordist does have a excellent Grammy vocal finish in how he expresses his thoughts, he has become one of my favs. Cheers to you both, and glad to see you still in great spirits after your ordeal. Happy holidays to you both :)
@@keeppushinhey thanks so much! I didn’t like my own vibe either, yet here I am putting it all out there. Do the thing! Who cares? Life’s too short. Thanks again for your kind words! ❤
love all your vids man. Thanks for this! I'm going to give it a go!. I have the Atlantis and love it. Would you might sharing your vocal chain for this vid as well as your VO work if it's something different?!? Please and thanks, I'd gladly donate. Also...are you using any outboard gear with this one? or running straight into your interface!? Thanks in advance man! Happy Holidays!
Hey, this video was great advice! I’m trying to get more clients, especially with ghost production. How do you go about getting your clients? I have a pretty respectable discography, just struggling to get the people
All of that is handled on Fiverr, they just select that option on the order page and it automatically gets added to the order. There is also the ability to add broadcast licenses, for example you could lease the rights for one year. If the client chooses to use the voice over the following year they would need to come back and purchase additional rights.
Great video thank you for sharing! I see on your Fiverr, you charge $10 per 100 words - so when you say you increased your price 4x, you were charging $2.50 per 100 words, and wording it on your page like that? Im just curious what's a good starting rate/how to approach that. Thanks !
Thanks! I actually misspoke I started by charging $5 for every 300 words. So it was actually more than 4X. I also included free commercial rights in the beginning as well 🙏
For singing the Eden wins hands down! For VO I might stick with the clarion. Weight of the tubes sounds great for softer VO’s but I find the clarion to be a better all around fit. That said the clarion doesn’t scratch the surface of the Eden for music, not even close.
The Clarion is a big upgrade! That said, I like 208 better for TH-cam videos haha I dunno why. Something in the mids that I like for conversational speech. Clarion handles singing and VO way better than the 208.
I think the best affordable mic that will get almost any job done is Lauten LS-208. I also use a U87 and Lauten Clarion, but the 208 wins most of the time and is significantly cheaper. For plugins, my current chain is UAD Neve 88RS channel, Weiss De-esser, fab filter pro q 4, toneboosters compressor and Oxford inflator. My chain changes often though. I’ll be making some VO vocal chain videos soon 🙏
i'm a little concerned that AI will really take over the V/O space very, very soon. So for anyone new, keep that in mind before you rely on this too much.
It’s all in the cadence. When doing advertisements clients are usually extremely specific about timing and feel. ai still falls short on the feeling side so many companies still opt for humans. As far as e-learning and voicemail VO work, that has almost been entirely replaced by AI.
I will NEVER understand the AAA VO biz, the "cartoons should have hollywood celeb voices". Sure, make chrispratt the voice of Mario, he has nothing to do with Mario or the voice and he's already rich as hell. While lots of talented young uns are waiting for their turn.
What you're talking about is lip sync work for movies or video games with real budgets. That's nothing you can do from your home studio anyway - so totally different ballpark.
@@Fastvoice I get that, but that's not what I'm saying AT ALL :) not a direct reaction to what is being said on the video. I just think movies should not need to have a fkin celeb budget just so some penguin sounds like robert deniro which is completely lost on the target audience anyway. Or again, damn chrispratt as MARIO... just silly.
Started in 2023 and had lots of success… it’s not nearly a dead industry. Companies have not yet gone to AI for commercials for a reason. It’s sounds good but it’s still soulless. I would say we’re are about 2 years away from it becoming the majority of commercials/ads

3:55 dude. I talk myself out of good feeling ideas all the time. I need to quit that.
That's great advice. I do VO on the side as well. When you've got the gear, know your stuff, and have a good voice, it's a crime NOT to. Well done!
Exactly! You’ve got such a great voice and cadence for it, loved your work on the Lauten ad 🙏

My pleasure!
When you charge them for commercial or broadcast rights do you have to fill out any paper work or is something they have to do?
All of that is handled on Fiverr, they just select that option on the order page and it automatically gets added to the order. No problem! I hope you have success :) another word of advice is to hire/work hard on a good thumbnail for your gig
Thanks for sharing your experience and advice! Btw, is that a Lauten Atlantis (or Clarion?) (or Eden?) that you're using? I like the sound!
🙏 it’s a clarion, I use it for 90% of VO work, I have an Eden as well which sounds AMAZING but it’s too heavy for any of my desk mic stands 😂
@@pluginhoarderWhich do you like best if the mic stand wasn’t a factor? Thanks
The Clarion is high on my wish list. I've got the LS-208 but want to upgrade to the Clarion or Atlantis. Eden is a paradise outside of my budget! 😂

I think most of the art spaces will be changing soon. that said, it hasn’t changed yet so no reason not to create 🙏
Unfortunately, you're probably right. Until then, I'll keep giving a thumbs down and clicking stop whenever I come across a TH-cam with AI V/O.
How do you compete against the AI voices?

@@drwhave Celebs draw people to the cinemas - so of course they hire them. It's more about the names on the billboards than the actual voice quality.
Nice.
