Nightmare - sorry you had to go through that. I can relate, sadly. My house got robbed last year and he cleaned me out of guitars and effects I've been collecting for 30 years. The loss is incalculable, but I really appreciated what you said about how some of the equipment was there more because of how it made you feel about yourself vs. what we actually need to make music. This is a subtle insight and hit me right between the eyes. I have a single guitar now, and it means the world to me.

In the 90s and 2000s I often rented rehearsal rooms in recording studios. Two things I remember that were always the same, no matter the studio: 1. All instruments were old, not expensive, instruments (you might think about leaving Chinese replicas of the u87 until you know people) and 2. The owners were ALWAYS in the studio. Not in my room, but somewhere where they could check the exit (which often was key locked), so we couldn’t leave without telling them. You might want to do the same in the future…
@@pluginhoarder I remember one of those studios did the recordings for some very famous artists here, and had very expensive instrumentation (think a full fledged Hammond organ with Leslie just to begin with…), but those things were in a room that we were not allowed to book. What an insane story. I rented out my studio for years but I never had that issue knock on wood. For one, anything not being used was locked away to include such things as headphones. If all someone was doing was a mix session then they had no need of any microphone, additional cabling, headphones, etc. It is all locked away in a room they can't get to and then further locked up for good measure. Second, I had cameras everywhere. Third, and this will sound crazy, I kept my place immaculate. It is harder to steal when anything out of place is instantly noticeable. That probably would not have helped in your situation but will slow down or stop an opportunist. Finally, I had an insane amount of insurance. I paid more for insurance than my friend who had a piercing and tattoo shop. Finally, the first few times anyone works there I'm going to be right there. If they don't like it then they can go someplace else. I don't care how amazing you are, you are not going to be able to figure out my monitoring or patching setup without some instruction.

Very sorry you went through that bro. Glad you’ve found silver linings in it. I went through a situation where a client stiffed me on several grand for work I’d already done, and it put me in a situation where I had to sell gear in order to get bills paid that were backing up for months. I made out okay overall and of course, once the gear sold, some funds came in from some projects that had been pending. But between losing the gear and as I started to re-build my studio arsenal…I realized what I really NEEDED and what was like DESERT ISLAND stuff as opposed to just toys in the studio
Man... thanks for sharing. I hate thieves too. I'm in the process of upgrading my home studio and your experience is terrifying... So thanks again for sharing because it serves as a heads up and I'll surely upgrade my security as well. Appreciate the positive vibe as well. 🙏🙏
Jordan, I'm sorry to hear this happened to you. Just wanted to say I remember listening to Lucky Date and watching you open for Zedd back when I was college. Appreciate all you do and hope things turn around.
I'm so sorry to hear this story. Feeling rage right along side you... I would have been so mad. I applaud your ability to come back down to rational thought in that moment and choose not to pursuit and potentially put your safety in danger.
Wow, I absolutely admire your ability to bounce back and keep a positive outlook on the situation. I'm honestly jealous of that super power you have. It's heart wrenching to hear stories about people like this who celebrate their existence by making the world a worse place. It's sad because of how great this place really could be if everyone was on the same page. I wish you the best of luck and hope good things, which you are deserving of, come your way.
Thanks for sharing dude, really important info for anyone who considers doing the same thing. Key things I took away from this are: extra security is redundancy for being a nice guy. List yourself as a business if you want to start profiting off your hobby (and remember Peer Space would have covered if this happened, so not their fault). Get insurance (maybe regardless) if you want to open up your equipment to others. Really hope you can make the best out of this man! PS. Robber looks like Fred Armisen in a disguise.
First off... I'm sorry to hear about this nightmare! But mostly, it's just amazing to hear your insight on this and how you approach audio. I'm going to pray that somehow, you'll be able to recover ALL of it. Thanks for posting this video!
Man, sorry this happened to you. That’s one of my biggest fears, getting my studio robbed. But I wanted to say I loved your completely reasonable positive attitude about how you’ve been able to change and grow from this. Truly inspiring.
Man bro. Nothing to say but I’m glad you weren’t harmed in the altercation. Keep your head up and make waves. Thanks for reminding us to stay vigilant.
Man I used to watch your videos all the time as kid when I started learning Reason, I wouldn't know where I'd be without your old DJ Lucky Date channel. I'm sorry this happened to you and I'm 100% sure you'll bounce back
Oh man. I was sick to my stomach listening to that. How awful. I fear that same thing every time I leave my house. I'm so sorry that happened to you. I can't believe how positive you're being about it all. You're not letting him take your soul, too. Good for you. You got a sub from me.
Thanks man, I was definitely not very positive for a few weeks haha but now much better. Appreciate it! Your videos are always a great start to my week 🙏
I'm glad you found some positivity from a horrible event that now helps to propel you forward. Newly subscribed and looking forward to supporting your journey from here. "Plugin Hoarder"... yep... fits me perfectly as well. However, this recent Black Friday, I maintained surprising constraint, deeply analyzing and preferring my needs over my wants and FOMO. Ohh, that was so painful. 😂 But I'm proud of myself for having done so. Sounds like you're making wise decisions now also. Kudos!!!
Damn bro, really sorry to hear this happened to you and you had your space and trust violated like that. Seeing your face light up talking about all of your equipment was contagious and love that you've maintained a positive outlook despite this experience. Glad you've got business insurance now. God bless.
@@pluginhoarder I agree with southhour5241 %100! First time I'm seeing this channel, but I'm impressed. Harrowing story, and your solid values and perspective are great reminders of how to live life. I hope you have many blessings in your work over the years...
I hate to hears stories like that but I needed to listen to yours. Man, you sound like a straight up guy and I hate that this happened to you or anybody who's just trying to get along. Kudos to you for not letting this experience make you bitter. I think you have some good karma coming. The people that did this, well, not so much. Good luck to you. Just keep pushing.
This video showed up in my feed, and it's unfortunate that I found your channel because of this incident. I hope you recover soon from this, it really sucks, specially having to deal with the stress after. Wish you the best brother
I just can't imagine the feelings you went through, I don't know what I would have done if it happened to me. Stay strong. Here is hoping for the future.
Happened to me in 1998. The gear was worth 21k ($40,668.37 adjusted for inflation). Had insurance, but had to hire an attorney to get paid. Took three years to recover mentally/financially due to the circumstance. Sorry this happened to you. Good that you spoke about it on camera. I'll never forget how violating the whole experience was. Looking forward to watching you bounce back.
Tough situation to hear about, yet the way you laid out how your reflection on it is sure to help many people in the Pro Audio world. Not many are able to be so transparent so credit there. Thank you for sharing your experience with us and being able to be open about it like that. Someone will catch that guy, I get you hate the man, but sadly, people who are steeped in a life of drugs only see people as a means to more drugs. I hope you have people around you who helped you through it. Subbed because you come across as an honest guy
I am sooo sorry that happened to you. I wish we lived in a world where we could trust everyone, Unfortunately we don't (bummer). We learn and we more on (our antenna is up) but this is the reality we live in. Love your channel, keep up the good work. it is appreciated.
As if it wasn't hard enough to make a living from music! Incredible story and we're so sorry to hear that. The thing I learned from your story is to check my insurances, all good from my side, thank god! Wishing you great success so you can compensate for the financial loss asap. Take care!!
Takeaways: 1) Setting a price threshold and filtering only for people who actually intend to pay is a good safeguard. 2) Letting someone see the studio before renting is normal and shouldn't be a red flag, but you shouldn't leave randoms who didn't even pay alone. 3) Security cameras could be a worthwhile investment and should be seen by customers as a mutual safety measure. Requiring ID might also be a handy practice. Thank you for sharing this story. You seem like an easygoing person to work with, and I'm certain you'll recover over your loss for the better.
Dang that’s really sucky man. Sending love and vibrations of money and energy towards that guy bringing everything back or at minimum him realizing that he has to change his life and start doing the right thing. 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
A similar thing happened to us on Air B&B. We had a great experience, UNTIL we rented to the one person with no feedback. We never should have, but it was for three days, just before we returned from overseas, and we made a weak decision for the money. They trashed the place, invited 50 people over (no joke) didn't leave when they were supposed to, caused about 7 or 8 grand in damages and Air B&B didn't cover everything. Probably half (and that took a lot of legal threats). Live and learn. We did quite well up to that point. A strong lesson is, trust your Spidey-sense.
@pluginhoarder Thanks man. I definitely cringed a little hearing your story as it brought back memories. I was extremely lucky they didn't steal stuff out of my studio (which was accessible). I guess they were partying too hard! 😁
@@pluginhoarder Yeah, before we left for the year in London (where I'm back again now for the next five years--selling the house in Nashville where this happened 8 years ago) I locked up the key stuff in a large closet and didn't share the password with anyone. Whew!! The guy we rented to was a criminal as well, for sure. They walked off with some of my vinyl collection! Ha! Small timers, eh? 😆
this came up on my feed. sorry about all the bs brother. but you seem like a great guy, great things coming your way. and you gained a new follower now 👍🏻

TH-cam's algorithm took me here. I watched the whole video. Keep the positive attitude, and take it as a hard lesson. See you in a year to celebrate 50k subs.
Bro... I'm so sorry that happened to you. I'm needing to get business insurance as well because I do my recording studio out of my home in the front of the house in a side room... If I ever found out where they stayed I'd be knocking on their door with a metal bat... But that's just me because a $15k loss on a Sony C800? Hell no... That's an amount of money I'll put someone 6ft under for. But of course, you're a better man than I. LOL You got my sub!
So very sorry to hear this story, man. Getting robbed really sucks. I think your perseverance/attitude shows that you are a good human, and things will somehow end up better. I hope they catch the creep. Salutations form grey & wet Ireland! ☘☮🤘🏽🤠👍🏽☮☘

well that more than sucks... Big respect for staying so cool about it. I think the lesson here is to trust your gut dude. Glad you are back in better place and taken the silver lining approach. I hope someone recognises the dude, then you can maybe get some justice. thanks for sharing.
You can survive man, sharing here is good for the negative and fear to go, keep your focus on all the great outcomes in music these are most important and not the one F*** up experience. We got you in thought..
Sorry this happened to you. I was the same way. When it came to making music and the person was interested, my guard was down. Don’t stop being a good person.
hey man, I'm sorry for your loss, I appreciate your attitude. I bought my first Apple computer back in 2009, a Mac Mini, financed a bunch of gear, Digital Performer 7, a large midi keyboard, an audio interface, and I sold the iMac I was replacing to some scumbag off of craigslist. He broke into my apartment the next day while I was at work and stole a ton of my stuff, including all the new gear I hadn't even made a single payment on, and a priceless Japanese nylon string guitar a friend had given me in grade school. I was crushed. I felt afraid to sleep in my own place, since he had broken down my door. He sent his girlfriend to scope the place out after the robbery to see if he could come back and steal more stuff. I told the cops the girlfriend was literally driving in front of the place and they didn't bother doing anything. Anyway, I was like you, just immediately trusted everyone. I'm wiser for it, praise God.
Thanks for sharing this. I hope you'll get another Sony 800G eventually and maybe some other interesting analog stuff in a surprizing and pleasant way!
I’m really sorry that happened to you man. Some people are just horrible. That kind of experience leaves you feeling violated and vulnerable. It is a hateful feeling.
A life drowned in drugs, stealing to buy more drugs, and eventually withering away... Being stolen from is deeply painful, but there is no greater blessing than to be the one who is stolen from, not the one who steals. May something great happen to you!
Dude I'm so sorry that happen to you. Same thing happened to me 20 years ago....Some friend of friends of my partner used my first commercial studio and they stole about $30K worth of gear. I pressed charges only found retrieved about $12K worth of gear... ever since... I learned to never work with unsigned rappers..... also having cameras is important

Just please don’t give up bro please don’t ! Whoever took your stuff won’t prosper that’s fasho !

That sucks. Kudos for approaching it in such a positive way. You seem like a lovely guy. Subscribing!
Thanks for the kind words! 🙏
Man, sorry this happened to you. That’s one of my biggest fears, getting my studio robbed.
But I wanted to say I loved your completely reasonable positive attitude about how you’ve been able to change and grow from this. Truly inspiring.
Thanks!! Appreciate your words 🙏
I am so sorry for your loss, may god grant you success and wellness
Thank you 🙏
Man bro. Nothing to say but I’m glad you weren’t harmed in the altercation. Keep your head up and make waves. Thanks for reminding us to stay vigilant.
Appreciate it!! 🙏
Sorry about that bro!! Glad to see you're able to see the positives in such a situation. I know I would struggle to do that
It took awhile but feeling a lot better about the future 🙏
Im so SO sorry to hear this man. This is devastating…my thoughts are with you brother.
🙏🙏🙏🙏
Man I used to watch your videos all the time as kid when I started learning Reason, I wouldn't know where I'd be without your old DJ Lucky Date channel. I'm sorry this happened to you and I'm 100% sure you'll bounce back
That’s awesome! Glad my videos helped out!! 🙏
@ I totally get it, man. And thanks so much! I really love your videos too!
God bless.
So sorry for you man. Happy you are still going!
You are a champion dude total respect for the optimism you have displayed in the face of adversity!
Thanks! 🙏
@@pluginhoarder I agree with southhour5241 %100! First time I'm seeing this channel, but I'm impressed. Harrowing story, and your solid values and perspective are great reminders of how to live life. I hope you have many blessings in your work over the years...
@ReedRobins thanks Reed! 🙏
Thank you! Much appreciated foreal
Thank you! 🙏
This happened to me back in the 1990s only with firearms in my face. Big lesson learned. Glad you weren't hurt.
Wow that’s awful man, 🙏🙏🙏
Amazing how positive you still sound, don’t ever loose that , the rest is just stuff my friend!!
Insurance is a big scam. You pay money but when you need to get it back you have to go to court. What a shame that happened to you man.
Thank you! Appreciate that 🙏
This guy is the embodiment of “let’s look at the good in this situation”
As if it wasn't hard enough to make a living from music! Incredible story and we're so sorry to hear that. The thing I learned from your story is to check my insurances, all good from my side, thank god! Wishing you great success so you can compensate for the financial loss asap. Take care!!
Takeaways:
1) Setting a price threshold and filtering only for people who actually intend to pay is a good safeguard.
Unbelievable. Terrible. Glad you posted his picture. Thanks for sharing this. It was a good reminder for me to add more protection to my studio.
Dang that’s really sucky man. Sending love and vibrations of money and energy towards that guy bringing everything back or at minimum him realizing that he has to change his life and start doing the right thing. 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏 cheers to that!
That's rough, dude. But I am glad you are taking positive things from of it.
This is crazy. SO sorry about tis my friend, keep us updated on the outcome of his case.
Wow, I’m sorry to hear about that Ed! Spidey sense is real forsure! Wish you the best 🙏
@pluginhoarder Thanks man. I definitely cringed a little hearing your story as it brought back memories. I was extremely lucky they didn't steal stuff out of my studio (which was accessible). I guess they were partying too hard! 😁
😅 dodged a bullet on that one!
Oopha…
Exactly.
Trust your spidey senses.
this came up on my feed. sorry about all the bs brother. but you seem like a great guy, great things coming your way. and you gained a new follower now 👍🏻
Oh, I feel for you! 🤗 But I love your wonderful positive attitude: it does not really matter what happens, what matters is what you make of it! With that attitude you’ll be so well taken care of by your larger self in your life. Keep the music in the air!
Thank you! Positivity is the ultimate weapon for success and happiness 🙏
So sorry to hear this. Hope it won't break your soul. You seem like a great guy. Don't worry things will be fine, because you a good person.
TH-cam's algorithm took me here. I watched the whole video. Keep the positive attitude, and take it as a hard lesson.
See you in a year to celebrate 50k subs.
$40,000 worth of gear lost, is brutal... my lord i am so sorry
🙏🙏🙏🙏
Damn dude. That's devastating. Good on you for looking for the lessons learned and moving forward.
😂🙏🙏
Sorry to hear that this has happened to you, Its terrible, and I hope things improve soon!
Thanks! Things are def looking up!
So very sorry to hear this story, man. Getting robbed really sucks. I think your perseverance/attitude shows that you are a good human, and things will somehow end up better. I hope they catch the creep.
Salutations form grey & wet Ireland! ☘☮🤘🏽🤠👍🏽☮☘
I feel for ya, ive never had my gear stolen but ive had to sell it off to cover life. Im on my third rebuild, slowest one yet. Its tough. Hope it comes back together for you better than before.
well that more than sucks...
I'm sorry this happened to you, but you have an excellent attitude. I wish you the best of success moving forward.
Very sorry to hear what happened to you. Best wishes into the future.
Thanks Luis! 🙏
I really wish I could give you a hug bro I'm so sorry that happened it's like losing a loved one when you lose your gear.
I’ve had 2 different studios robbed. I feel you. Keep your head up.
Sorry this happened to you. I was the same way. When it came to making music and the person was interested, my guard was down. Don’t stop being a good person.
Very sorry to hear this, a real nightmare - essentially lesson to be learned from this is never leave clients alone in your studio
hey man, I'm sorry for your loss, I appreciate your attitude.
Sorry to hear this, you seem like a nice guy (I also don't have trust issues haha). Good wishes for 2025 as well :)
dude idk why youtube recommended this to me but im so sorry u had to deal with this, props for staying positive.
Thanks for sharing this. I hope you'll get another Sony 800G eventually and maybe some other interesting analog stuff in a surprizing and pleasant way!
Man what a bad experience.
Sad to hear your story 😢
Hope you keep doing well
I’m really sorry that happened to you man. Some people are just horrible. That kind of experience leaves you feeling violated and vulnerable. It is a hateful feeling.
Good on you for being so positive!! All the best wishes from afar🙂
The grind. Sorry you had to experience this.
Always rely on your instinct brother. ALWAYS.
First time to your channel, and sorry about what happened. Sending nothing but love and prayers to you fam 🙏🏾✊🏾💚
I always assume the worst. Ive got 10 guitars, all with 4 digit price tags. Even some of my best friends don’t know where I live.
🤣 I don’t blame you!
A life drowned in drugs, stealing to buy more drugs, and eventually withering away...
Being stolen from is deeply painful, but there is no greater blessing than to be the one who is stolen from, not the one who steals.
May something great happen to you!
$40,000 buys a lot of Meth.
I love how you see the opportunity from the loss. With this mindset, your 2025 will be the best you ever had, no doubt
Wow, I’m sorry that happened! Sometimes we learn the hard way 🙏
Man I know the feeling bro same thing happen to me when I rented out a clinic office space ..only operated on appointments and never allowed people to chill outside or anything .. well they still did it…police arrested the two guys but lost my macs, my keyboards and my monitors.. 3 years later and I’m still trying to bounce back but it’s so hard because I used my college money back then to get my stuff! Just please don’t give up bro please don’t ! Whoever took your stuff won’t prosper that’s fasho !
Also it could have been worse bro glad you are safe
So sorry to hear this. Obviously the loss of gear is horrible but i imagine the worst part is just how violating it feels. Peerspace should definitely step up and help you out. I'd not heard of them before tbh but would never use them now. I hope this video does well for you and they see this and help out 👍 all the best and i think your attitude towards the whole situation is really admirable.
Thanks! That’s so true, the violating feeling was definitely worse than the loss of the gear. Was hard to shake 🙏
@pluginhoarder it's a horrible experience to go through, but I do believe that these things make us stronger and wiser
wwwowww, i could not imagine the frustration ... i'm so sorry for ya ...cheers from Italy!
