Just bought this unit in 2022 and it's just what I need. I don't like all the newer models which come with wifi/streaming and other gimmicks, this device is great just to mix without hassle.
Don't really know what pioneer are trying to so with this unit. The RX1 is only a little bit more expensive at the moment and is a way better option if you're looking for a standalone unit in the around £1000 price range. I do agree that the DDj 1000 is the best at this price range and even though it's not standalone you can still take it to parties and just use it with your laptop. If your club has CDJs you can just put your music on a usb anyway because you're already using recordbox with the 1000. In fact in my opinion, the 1000 is the best value for money controller on the market at the minute.
Just stumbled on this as I'm looking for a Pioneer controller at the moment. I've been DJIng since 1990 - and the key now, as it was then, is to have something that's as near to what you'll be greeted with in a club (then it was Technics SL1200s). And that means something that's similar to the CDJ 2000. No matter what bells and whistles your controller has - nine out of 10 times you'll be using Pioneer CDJs. I like the RX, too but - and here's my second reason for liking the RR - it's far heavier. And for the little bar gigs (where they don't have equipment) you want something that's easy to carry around. Yes, it doesn't have a "booth" output, but in a little bar you won't need it.
Thanks for that great review! I believe that what Pioneer is doing is it's just filling the gaps in between its product range that suit every budget. The XDJ-RR is a fantastic standalone controller that obviously inherits some of the XDJ-RX options. I believe that many mobile DJs have been waiting for such a convienent product that has (the screen option, USB ready, and AUX input for requests, which the XDJ-RX1 doesn't have and it's totally annoying to deactivate a chanel just to connect an auxilary for requests during the gigs) I am personally buying this one for my wife because of these options in addition to its light weight, the RX are too big for her. However IT IS a downside not to have a monitor out, but it's still manageable by just connecting a monitor to the "master out 2" and controlling the volume from the active monitor itself ;) But for the price, it is overpriced and I guess it shouldn't be priced more than the DDJ-1000. Only if the DDJ-1000 was usb ready, I think it would have been the perfect controller in the market. I moved from CDJs to XDJ-RX & RX2 and i'm happy with them so far.
So many better options out there. Even the mcx8000 which came out 2 years ago woud be a better buy. Cheaper, standalone and it has 4 channel support with serato(and booth input of course). The RR has the price of a pro controller with the features of a basic.
About the the cover that is plastic and the rx2 is metal, i find going out to play on boat parties, the steel get rusted very fast from the air and humidity. So i prefer this plastic cover. One just have to look after it carefully.
Its not only the screen..it has usb port too..also some fx are on the controller and you dont need to check ur laptop..its just really nice controller..i have ddj-400 and i would really like to upgrade to this
I'm looking to be sure if this model XDJ-RR does support to show the Alphanumeric format of the key of the tracks on the led. It seems that I found many comments stating that it only supports classic format at all. Can you confirm?
CrossFader you are always on point, hitting the nails on the head. Nice review again! Well there are better sets below/same price rage to this Pioneer DDJ-RR, Like the Numark NVs, Denon DJ MCX8000, Pioneer DDJ 1000. Pioneer is always extremely too loud on prices to their DJ Gears. If they were Denon DJ, the Denon 5000 prime "M" series could have sold for about 2000- 2200 Euros. Therefore this new Pioneer entry ought to be at list below 399 Euros.
I can see this unit being £800 in a couple of months, for me it sits below the RX1 and way below the RX2. Its almost like Pioneer had a load of spare parts for the RX1 and thought, what can we build with this? Everybody keeps going on about the Denon MCX8000 but it was due the prime update years ago and although it is slowly getting it, the 8000 is still old technology. I can see Denon releasing a MCX9000 prime controller that takes a lot of the SC-5000 features and puts it in to a standalone controller, this will probably retail at £2500-£3000 and they may (should) just release a new range like Prime controller 1 or something. If Denon managed to do a 4 channel standalone unit with 2 SC5000 style decks then even at £3000 it would take the high end controller market. This isn't too far away considering the SC5000/X1800 set up has come down to about £4000. We shall see.
Slightly smaller but not by much, it is nearly 4kg lighter though so that might persuade some mobile djs. Personally I prefer a bit of weight to my players.
I don't understand the rekorder box part do the track get analyzed by the controller or need to be exported from pc using rekorder box if i have tracks on usb or have a guest dj with just mp3,wav will the usb be read by the controller ?
Hello, can i use a HOT CUE BANK LIST on the XDJ RR? I'm using this consolle since 4 years, i never tried this option like the CDJ3000, do you have a video about that? thanks
Iv never used pioneer always numark but due to me doin gig last weekend Iv noticed pioneer have lot of extras Does this unit need internet like lot of pioneer units
It's basically a slimmed down rx1. The only thing I prefer on this model is the dedicated aux input and most likely better stability when connected to rekordbox performance mode (the rx1 isn't great).
I’m really confused when I press slip loop it does not do what it is doing for you for me one of them does a vinyl stop and the other to put a flanger effect on So I click slip loop press the end tab and it just does a vinyl stop
Does the xdj-rr still have the waveform stretching when playing tracks of different tempos? This was the biggest short coming in my mind on the xdj-rx1. I'm wondering whether it's the same on the rx2?
hi mate one question Im new in the DJ world im a beginner i would like to buy one of these , what do you recommend for a beginner the DDJ 800 OR XDJ RR thank you I know both equipment are different and what is the best for my experience thank you . and great video
Hello, I buy one like this and it doesn’t appear on the screen the equalizer parallel, I mean the wave of sound , somebody knows why ? How should I make it appear ? Thank you in advance ✌🏼
Can you take it of vinyl mode??? And if you can, when you press pause does it stutter? Like where the beat repeats itself so you can move the jog wheel to cue the very beginning of that sound or beat??
Hey Jamie bit off topic here but have you still got the link to your 80’s mix with turntables you and your Dj mate done while back ?Wana have a listen again . Cant find it.Cheers Rob
I own the DDJ-400 as a back controller. One thing that I do not like about the DDJ-400 is the cheap pitch control. It’s very soft and not very accurate. The pitch control on the XDJ-RR looks to be the same pitch control as the DDJ-400. Am I correct?
What’s the closest in quality and price to this rr that has rca input so I could use it as a controller but also use my turntables? I still have all my old DnB vinyl from the technics days, but know play techno / house with digital media. Wanting to get a controller similar in quality to this, but would really like to have the ability to still mix my records (and potentially DVS) Cheers for the quality review / demo mate! Hopefully someone can gimme some ideas on what I mentioned as there is just too many options between this and the DDJ 800 or 1000, or something completely different. If money wasn’t a problem I’d buy a pair of XDJ 700s and a xone 92, (or the play differently Model1!!! Look it up if not familiar!) but that’s not realistic at the mo.
Does anyone know how to get the Audio Preview via Headphones working whilst connected through Midi with the Laptop? I cannot seem to be able to preview the next song...
Even now (late 2021) I wanted to buy this unit (as I needed a standalone unit). Although I decided not to because of the lack of the Master Cue button, which even my DDJ-400 has!
I finally bought Denon SC live 4 because I wanted the club booth style and more features. I am using it for four months in partying and gigs and I am totally satisfied. Don’t listen to those who don’t like it for the speakers.
@@CharlesGokey the price of pioneer gear is legal crime. if they added another button the price would go up by $500. Still the cheapest way to get into recordbox and ease of jumping on cdj2000s when you have too.
The only reason I could possibly see the price point being reasonable is beacuse you dont require a laptop, compared to the ddj 400. But you still need a device to put music on the usb sticks.

As a mobile DJ this unit is perfect. Not too big and well equipped for pubs, weddings and birthdays
Just bought this unit in 2022 and it's just what I need. I don't like all the newer models which come with wifi/streaming and other gimmicks, this device is great just to mix without hassle.
Do you still have this? Thinking about purchasing one, not sure about the 1k price tag tho
Got mine a few days ago, it's such a great tool! Thanks for the tutorial :)

Great review and sharing your thoughts. Your honesty is much appreciated.
Thank you! Your review was very helpful for me! I wouldn't have ever thought that it has no booth out...?!?
no big deal !, connecto another small mixer to your pioneer output , and then you hve dj booth independent oputputs ;)

I agree with you. if you want to DJ without a laptop the rx1 (even used) is a great option but the ddj1000 is next level. and worth ever penny

It’s an awesome piece of equipment however for me the slip loop features Doesn’t work it triggers vinyl stops and other effects
Ordered one of these as a good practice controller in between cdj2000 gigs. It’s pretty much only good for that, can’t wait to get it soon.
hi, how you found that unit? no regrets? im in the same boat, for home fun in between the gigs. thanks
Great review, Jamie. I love the new studio! btw!

The ONLY reason this is so expensive is because of that screen, if you take that screen away you have a pretty average beginner unit..
And the USB port for your thumb drive
I dig the screen
Personally not into djs staring at a computer while they play
Its not only the screen..it has usb port too..also some fx are on the controller and you dont need to check ur laptop..its just really nice controller..i have ddj-400 and i would really like to upgrade to this

the screen .. makes it stand-alone!
Use the headphones as your 'booth out'. Can easily manage that through the headphone cue's
Good point, use a y splitter out.
