Alan Turing was a mathematician. He figured out how to break the code but if you are talking about who made the computer that cranked through the rotor settings. It was a GPO engineer named, Tommy Flowers and he had to use his own money to pay for the valves and components to make it so I think that he was truly the unsung hero in this story.
Turing had a pen pal called Ada Lovelace. I know it sounds like a adult film star name. She got him to think about certain aspects of computing and challenge him.
@@billybulmer7386Well spotted Billy. I got confused. Ada Lovelace had a working relationship with Charles Babbage with a prominent point of Analytical Engine in 1840 something
Christ, you’ve opened a debate here. I would also add Robert Watson-Watt (radar), Edwin Armstrong (Superheterodyne), Nikola Tesla (poly phase and lots more) and Oliver Heaviside (Transmission lines & RF propagation - like Flower he worked for the GPO) just to put forward a few more. I would like to add how much was discovered and developed by the GPO at Dollis Hill.

Brilliant bit of history . Well done Jamie. My mum always told me they always forget the good ones. And remember the shit ones .
Every day is a school day. I never knew about Tommy Flowers, thanks for that 🙂🙂
Brilliant Jamie --
Great film about Alan....
Great film about Alan Turing.......Codebreaker
It did help that they got some German code books
Brilliant 👌👌👌
Thanks a nother amazing video. It's really good to see someone apreshiating Alan Turing and his persecution suffering and all the amazing work he did
There's poor old me delighted I got a Shelly Em working on its own IOT network 😅😅😅 have to up the stakes a bit
Cracking video Jamie, I can see how passionate you love our trade.
Absolutely love itb

Ada Lovelace died in 1852
Not sure who told you this?
Are you thinking of Charles Babbage?

@@chrisb4009Yep. Had brain fog.
Charles Babbage Analytical Engine in 1840 something
Actually the enigma code was first broken by team of polish mathematicians in 1930 ies. Then Alan Turing just built on it.
This is true
And the computer he invented and built was called Colossus

A fair point , another great british organization broken up and sold off
