The greatest electrician IN THE WORLD
Going to watch this. But I like to predict the outcome. The EV Charger is a high power, single circuit device so it has to be wired all the way back to the consumer unit, for a start. The mains side of the unit has some always changing (meaning expensive for parts) requirements for earthing, tripping, etc. etc. RCDs etc. I think it depends on the property, PE/T&N setup, the charger location, the charger make, the day of the week and the 4th decimal update version of the wiring codes issued that morning.... you might need additional earth rod(s). Installing it wrong might give them a nice shock far worse than the price though. I understand a good bit about equal potential and earthing, but having watch several lectures on the risks of EV chargers and combined T&N setups I realised I was just starting to slide down mount stupid. So, I have installed a transfer switched off grid island for my office. However, I had my local spark doing the earthing and mains side install. I would not attempt an EV charger install "DIY" and my local "tame" spark doesn't do them either.
Ive been asking this same question why they are installing a new consumer unit for the EVC (ignoring the external one as we all know how stuoid that is). Its because they dont want to make sure the customer is safe.... Its about saving pennies..... And cutting corners....
Did you forget to take your medication today? Your blood pressure must be through the roof!
Great Video 👌
Great tip ! Any tricks of the trade for manipulation of big cable cores into tight spaces in panel
What i did not get that customers would question a £1500 EV charger install whist bragging about there 50K Tesla.
Your right, just been back today to an install i done 5years ago RCBO board Metal, done a neat job charged £750 + Vat Went back now the local council needed upgrade on the Smoke Alarms, i was horrified the someone added 3 more 1.0mm to my 6a RCBO, and 2 radials to a 32A RCBO. I’m going to say to the owner he’s a barber, would you have my a Sparky cut your hair, Then inform him that i will have to go back to repair the Fuck up someone has done. First I’ll get my £600 + Vat for 5 smokes & Heat with Carbon Alarm.
find the entitlement of the solar lot off the scale sometimes, a lot of them spend a lot time whinging about the standing charge, they seem to think the rest of us plebs should just pay for all the grid infrastructure so in November its all still there to heat their fuckin pool house.
I find this hysteria about PEN faults a bit bizarre when you see people lashing up henley blocks and outside consumer units and apparently no shits given about outside lighting and outside sockets you can plug anything into at any location.
But PEN faults , networks problem not mine
If I got a plumber in to do a job and I put all the pipework in and just asked him to solder it up he'd tell me to fuck off.
Quite rightly so too but it’s ok for Sparky’s
Jamie, what another entertaining video as always, you and Dave always keep me entertained two youtubers that call it for what it is and aren't getting bummed by sponsors. Every time I see someone fitting an extra consumer unit when there is a perfectly serviceable unit with spare ways and available parts to complete the install, there makes me cringe, keep up the good work.
I don’t like tovtalk about David savory , he allways touches my winky on the internet he’s a bad man
@@jamieblatantsparky yeah I suppose he is a pervy twat. When I grow up I would love to be half the sparky you are, just waiting for the results of my 8202 L3, then going to find somewhere to do my regs, experience worker NVQ and other bits the AM2, at 47 left it a bit late but what the hell. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated, as I have asked a few for help but no response, just to make sure I am heading in the right direction
Been in the sun a bit of a long time today Jamie?😆😅🤣
The 70g car is on the drip , sparkys want cash in a lump . Is that why the want the charger for nothing 😉
Never never
I really need a video on testing dahlander motors. Ideally one that would also explain how to determine which wires are which if they are no longer labeled. As far as I can tell no one has made a video on it.
Watch my motor video , it explains windings look at the drawing on this video and test
To suggest the labour cost to install an EV is just £100 is misleading and irresponsible as this video is obviously aimed at the client. I would like to see what evidence he has to support this claim.
Your not wrong lol I imagine most sparky's have had this convo in their own heads many times over.
This video ,man so good and SO true 👍
Do you need a hug hun!!! 😂😂
Nice rant, and very true too.
What a fucking tool. Jamie, you're bang on the money.
This whole concept is flawed, I am making massive fuel savings with my home 'charger' Vs my old Diesel car. I'd happily pay premium for a good EVSE installation because it would pay for itself in no time, so why the penny pinching? As you say the car cost 50k so hardly a big deal. My issue was finding a decent spark who wouldn't bang it on henleys and actually do a respectable job. Even the more reputable sparks on TH-cam seem to have given in to the easy life with EV installs, so there's nobody setting a good example out there. Hopefully this rant will make a few think, good on you, you maniac 😂
I dont like anyone trying to simplify our work as electricians, or try and speak on our behalf as to what we should earn! Also would like to add, so we have to spend our time unpaid giving customers detailed guidance about 'digging trenches, laying ducts, lifting floor boards etc.' To save them some money.😂 I learnt that through my apprenticeship FFS.
Jamie, did you imply you were a cynic? Do you know the definition of cynicism? Cynicism is 'reality based on experience' ~ at least, that could be a cynic's view!!!! Like your content - always.
Dinosaur juice, brilliant, how have a never heard this before 🤣🤣. It's a similar thing with us and boiler swaps unfortunately 😞
Say it how it is Jamie. That's what I like about you
Yea this needs doing though this is taking Sparky’s food away
Quality. 😂😂😂
10/10 ill stick to superyachts were all they care about is service were money is no object and were only qualified and competent people can even step on board. The day I drop my prices to get work is the day im going to leave earth.
I get the feeling you've got issues with EV's and EV owners, they call me Sherlock 😆
Why are they all so tight

Hi Jamie I thought you said this bloke was an expert (did you mean knob)? what a load of mis-informed crap, while on the subject of EV rubbish, what is the need for a cable wrapped around the outside of the box when all EV's have their own cable? is it because the users are too idle to get the cable out of the car, a so called tethered cable is asking for someone to come along and cut it off. Regards you know who.
Am 81 year old man calling someone a knob , never change ray
@jamieblatantsparky He's right though. Nobody considers Nick Raimo an expert unless you count other TH-cam grifters?
Chgr costs... All manufacturers have amortisation costs, and when does that turn into a piss take..you'll never get a decent answer out of em on this because they will always try and squeeze a bit more out of the product life with "margins" learned that hard with GE and Nortel...(Human nature)
Not good that the standard practice for "EV Installers" is to fill your meter box with a load of tat and leave your cutout floating...
I can't stand the general public either, Karen's especially. Thanks for being our representative 👍
They really are bongs are t they
Jamie....welcome to Blitey. 😁😁 You know what half these assholes in the UK are like...

Good video, read GN3 cover to cover, know your regs, understand the testing process and practice, practice, practice until you can do it blind folded. But why is all that preparation necessary? Does this not get taught on 2391 courses nowadays? Or are these 5 day courses (realistically only 3 days) just an evaluation of what you are already expected to know?
2391 assumes all students can test already it’s a course for people with experience in testing to 2392 , ie testing new installations and your own work , the tests are the covered to make sure people know what they are doing but this course is about the progression from testing your own work to testing for periodic inspection reports
@@jamieblatantsparkyI agree with you for the most, however it was always my understanding that this qualification would give you a greater understanding of testing and develop your knowledge of the subject, particularly analysis and interpretation of results obtained during an EICR and a more detailed understanding of the theory associated with the tests. Initial verification is often taught in a monkey see, monkey do fashion, with little knowledge of why. I would definitely like to see this qualification upgraded to level 4, but that’s certainly never going to happen! C&G indicates a total qualification time of 67 hours, of which 50 are guided learning hours. Quite often this course is delivered within a fraction of that time, with learners, dare I say it becoming coached through assessments! C&G is obviously aware of this and is now stipulating particular entry requirements and skill scans to be carried out on candidates. There certainly was never any entry requirements before for this qualification. The only reason I can think of for this move, aside from dodgy private training providers miss selling courses, is on the assumption that courses are now being delivered far quicker that originally intended, knowledge is not being retained due to the rapid style of delivery and candidates are failing. C&G don’t like it when people fail their qualifications, they can’t dilute this or make it any easier to pass (can they?). So now they require that candidates already have the skills and knowledge to be able pass. Industry has dictated this to some degree because it has now largely become a requirement to have this qualification and most just want to tick a box in double quick time. Sadly this qualification will never hold the same respect as it once did 😢.
@@ACDC271 its deffo not the course it used to be a lot of people have scraped through it and dont know what they are doing , i stand by the statment that people that do it with me leave with a good start
Nice one Jamie, some great advice. I found John Ward, who I have watched for years anyway, was really helpful when I did mine. Yes the IET preparation book was also a great way of preparing for the written exam, and you are so right about RTFQ and understanding how they word questions and taking the time to get to grips with them. There were 2 or 3 out of our class of 7 I think, who didn't pass and all for the reasons you gave, which they could have prepared better for. They knew how to test with their eyes closed but as you say, it's not the same as an exam test situation. I will have a refresh by looking over Mark's and your content, and I go back to JW when I need to, though sad that he doesn't do YT anymore really. BTW..... have you considered using spellcheck on your graphics?? 😜🤣🤣🤣
Good one Jamie! Spot on. Always mark up the books. GN3 is the bible for this. I did thid course nearly 20 years ago. I had to use my memory then and it took 1 day a week for 12 weeks. Brilliant course. I understood everything including the practical. I then tried a refresher course about 2 years ago. 5 day thing. It was a course on how to pass the exam. Past papers after past papers. No learning involved. This is one of the hardest courses ever but with a good teacher it will make sense and then hopefully we end up thinking sparkys.
When I did my 2391 the past papers were completely different from the actual exam, in fact, I would go as far to say they didn't resemble the actual test one bit
Great - this hits the nail on the head. It’s not glamourous, but rehearse the paperwork and be prepared for exam conditions. I used to think the time pressure was a bit artificial, but actually I think the point is that it forces you to have your knowledge familiar enough that you can recall it quickly. One more too tip, which you mentioned in the 1-2-1 series is about knowing what each item on the inspection checklist actually means. Great also to show that @dsesuk video about Harvey Tyrell. Nothing better to hammer home the importance of good testing and good paperwork.
A beautiful set of test results can be ruined if you tick the box that your test rig had an earth rod 😂
Got to say that if you jar any disc player... It will skip... I have a fisher from 1986. . still using it today and honestly every day since 1986
There is absolutely no reason for that to be done live.
I would want a longer pole!!!

He's isolated It safely by shorting It to ground whilst wearing a washing up glove for PPE. Jamie, can we have this at 18% playback speed also?
Might have to do some extra paper work for that mess.
A manager at a plant in Liverpool said to me in July 2024 " You don't need to turn that off. It's not going to hurt you. You can only get a buzz from it. " Yes these dickheads are still out there.
