What an amazing treat to see a relative from that time! I'd love nothing more than to see a pic of my long gone grandfathers who were both in the war.

He's charming! I decided he was my favorite before I even saw your post. Grateful to him for his service; may his memory be a blessing.

My Grandad was Alec Durbin in this film, we all grew up thinking he worked at Bletchley but found out in later years that he was actually at Whaddon Hall. Absolutely delighted to see this footage.

I want to gently suggest that the forensic lip reader may have made a mistake. At 1:52 there is a man with the subtitle "Ooh... pulling faces for you...". I want to suggest that maybe he said "pulling focus for you". "Pulling focus" is a filming term on a movie set where someone on the crew has the sole job of focusing the camera while someone else films with said camera. The man in the film is in focus at the start of the scene and proceeds to take a step or two backwards (going out of focus) and then steps forward (coming back into focus) while making the statement. He's seems to be having a bit of fun with the camera man. I'd love to know what he said after stepping forward... And I'm no lip reader, so I may have it all wrong. It just seems that "pulling focus" fits the behavior. Thanks for publishing. I LOVE history!

This is wonderful stuff -- it really humanises the work that was done there, most of whom didn't get any recognition for it in their lifetime.

Spuggy Newton my Dad who was one of the originals recruited in 1938 at 0.36. If people want to know more then Geoffrey Pidgeon's book 'The Secret Wireless War' is well worth a read and some of the adventures these guys had were amazing. So sad my dad passed before I knew any of this. My Mother is one of the ladies with sun glasses in deck chairs at 3.57, she was a translator at Bletchley having quite a good knowledge of German.

I'm just reading Sir Winston Churchill bio, and have great admiration for these heros from Bletchley who -definitely -save the humanity from the enemy. They just changed the destination of WWII. It was terrible when they were not able to decode Nazi's messages specially at the time of Atlantic war, when the Germany Navy was really threatning the overseas supply to Britain. Heros !

@@BletchleyParkTrust Surely you mean 16mm, as there never was a 6mm film format. I wondered about the colour footage. It was rare and expensive at that time. Whoever made the film was well-off. Any idea what make of film it was? I think he possibilities in the 1940's boil down to Kodachrome and Agfacolor, the latter might have been captured from the Germans.
