I use to run a beer route that took me over to Hollis. The folks at the Waterin’ Hole and other stores use to tell me about a famous cowboy cook that lives out there. I’ve since moved, but I finally found him! Thanks for all the great content Mr. Rollins.
I'm 64 years young and can agree cast iron can last many lifetimes. I have inherited some of my grandmother's and great-grandmother's iron cookware.Still works like a champ.
CK's original husband trainer is the rolling pin (aka "husband attitude adjuster"). Two nights ago I quized my family - pulled the rolling pin out of the drawer and asked "who knows what this is?" My daughters both looked at me half bored and said, "we know Dad....a husband trainer...you've been watching that cowboy again." hahahaha....what can I say?
Great tips. I’ve been cooking in cast iron every sense I was big enough to stand on a chair and help grandma Dolly with breakfast or supper. Now that was over 65 years ago and I’m still using some of her cast iron. My grand kids have already started claiming which piece they want for themselves. It last forever. Stay safe my friend. Keep the fire hot and the coffee pot full. God Bless you all
Mr. Kent, heartfelt THANKS for the "how to" videos on cast iron care. Shamed to say for the last 20+ years, I've been doing it all wrong😐. I bought some 80 grit sandpaper, avocado oil, and I've now got my 20 year old cast iron on the right path. Thank you again!!
Thank you Kent and Shannon and Pete from Stargazer. Pete just to let you know that Stu is a awesome man and has helped me out tremendously! All at Stargazer are top notch Employees! God bless you all, Stay safe and Healthy 🙏
Trying to convert my friends to cast iron. Since lockdown began last year I’ve been between three addresses- my mothers (following divorce), holiday park caravan site - I work in a nursing home and needed to shield away from my mother- and now FINALLY a home of my own after so very very long. My own boat!!! But with all this moving about I’ve not had room nor transportation space for lots of stuff including cooking equipment. After watching one of these videos last year I purchased a lodge large skillet and not looked back! Use it for pretty much everything and like that it’s something I can pass onto my child one day. Bless you for your videos and content! Sunny smiles from England!
My ol griswold skillets and dutch oven are all I've ever used, and many people don't know this, but as we age we need more iron in our bodies. If you cook in cast iron, you get your daily dose of iron naturally!
I'm 64 years of age and am really new to cast iron cooking. Really enjoy your videos and tips during this time of staying around the house. Keep them videos coming!
My wife and I have started converting most all of our cookware to cast iron, based partly on your videos. There are so many dishes that get turned into a one pot meal now. Not only have they turned out better, they save time and effort with not having to clean extra pots and pans. If anyone is hesitant about making the switch, start small. Go get you an inexpensive lodge and watch their videos on how to make that thing even better.
I got into cast iron after watching a Kent Rollins video on you tube. Now, not only do I cook with cast iron, I also collect and restore vintage cast iron, every time I get enough money to buy a Finex, or a Stargazer skillet, I keep finding deals I can't refuse on several vintage pieces ( Griswold, Wagner, Birmingham stove and range, etc. ). I know someday I'll get a Stargazer or a Finex, I'm just havin a lot of fun getting there. Thank you Kent Rollins for awakening me to cast iron, and all the great recipes!
Bought the Stargazer 10" as a result of your evaluation and the CEO's comments with you. Totally love it and they provided the veterans discount for which I'm very grateful. Chose the 10 inch to share real estate on the griddle top so I could cook many things at once. Thanks for the great evaluations and instructions on cast iron.
I really like all the Saturday quick tips and tricks. Ever since I found your great channel I have really enjoyed cooking with cast iron. Thank you both for all you do. Truly, the nice neighborhood of the internet.
Thanks a bunch for the info. I have used cast iron for years for sou-s, stews, chicken fried steaks, fried chicken, spaghetti sauce with meat, and even pineapple upside down cake. I could not live without mine. I have some of my mother’s and grandmother’s iron skillets, Dutch ovens, etc. I cherish them all.
I Bought a cheap Ozark trail cast iron the other day like for 7 dollars and it came seasoned.I cooked fish and steaks and it work great.Im hooked on cast iron now Kent!!!
Its always good to have a little plain steel wool on hand just in case. And don't dry with paper towels-too much paper lint. Thanks Ken for warming our hearts and being so full of cheer!
My 12" Lodge is the workhorse in the kitchen! I also have a 10" and a 6" - all are at least 30 years old and all have their own recipes!! The baby is great for a lil cornbread for just me, an old widow woman. The big daddy is perfect for steak & gravy when the kids around! Lovecmy cast iron!!!
I am going to be 62 in 2 months. The first thing my mother taught me to make was a pineapple upside down cake, in her cast iron. My cast iron is as old as I am. And to this day the most requested cake I get is still my pineapple updide down. Baked in the same cast iron my mother taught me in!
I'll be 63 on the 16th of this month and I still cook cakes in my iron skillets that tends to work better than these real thin things because the thin ones Let the heat to the side so bad that buy a kind of start adhering to it and you get the big old Dome on top. it just seems cast iron makes a More Level top. Happy trails
YES, to both of you as the versatility of the pan but it used to turn off my father in-law the late wife said due to it being a dirty pan with all of that season which is just uncleaned off food stuffs.
Kent, Have been a fan for some time now. I haven't used cast iron skillet since early 70's. Didn't expect to use one, but watched your videos because interesting. Then Covid came and my wife and I decided to get a Class A RV. Pulled out a Coleman gas stove that hadn't been used since late 70's. Bought some gas. Needed a skillet. Took a cast iron one my wife bought out to the shop, 15 minutes with angle grinder and it was pretty smooth. Wife's opinion, I ruined the skillet! Put oil on three times, but rushed it too much. Very sticky! Poured in salt and scrubbed. Heated it up and re-seasoned once. Left next AM.first couple days fried eggs, slight sticking, third day scrambled, no stick. Thank you so much for your videos! Respectfully, Kevin
i love cooking in cast iron. it always takes me back to being a kid with stews and roast and then the cobblers and pineapple upside down cake. i have inherited a lot of my set so each pc. has stories and great memories with it.
Hi Kent. Great video. I swear I heard you say one way to easy clean the cast iron skillet is to heat it up to smoking temp and the run it under very hot water from the tap. I do this religiously and it works every time. I apply oil afterwards once dry to re-season. Keep up the great videos! 🍽👍💕 PS this video inspired me to bake my next homemade pizza in my cast irons!
I just like to say I enjoy your videos sir. I guess I've been cooking in cast iron for the past 48 years. But you know I check out your Channel and every now and then I'll pick up a tip I didn't know. I really appreciate that. if you keep making them I guess I'll keep watching them. May God bless you and keep you safe from this pandemic we have. I guess the only way I can put anything else is, God, family, guns, and cast iron! And country folks I believe Will Survive.
Unfortunately I have arthritis and my big pans and dutch oven have become a hassle to lift, fortunately though I’ve found that Lodge is making smaller pieces that I don’t have a problem handling. Since I live alone small portions are even better not having to eat leftovers forever. I got a 1 quart dutch oven together with a 6” pan for tent camping and a 2quart oven together with an 8” frying pan for home where perhaps I want to cook a bigger quantity. These pieces have allowed me to still cook with my much loved cast iron and make meals while being able to handle the weight. Great video thanks.
I would really appreciate if at the end of your videos, after when you're finished cooking on Cast Iron Skillet , that you could show us how you clean it or take care of it.
It's easy. Wash it out. Soap is fine. Dry it. Wipe a thin layer of oil for storage. Anything else is a waste of time. There is nothing special about cast iron care other than leaving some oil to protect it.
Kent and Shan, the wife and I just absolutely love y’all’s channel. We have tried a few of y’all’s recipes and they dun made us happier than a tornado inna trailer park! Absolutely enjoy your cookin, patriotism and love for the four legged friends. Keep up the great work you two!
Thanks to this video we placed an order for our first Stargazer 12" cast iron pan. Im hoping to be impressed by them! We're in process of switching over to all cast iron.
@@CowboyKentRollins thank you for all the great videos! My wife and I enjoy watching together. Our German Shepherd, Harley watches with us. Thank you. I’ve wanted one for years but a lot of questions I’ve had about it. This has shed some light for me! It’s definitely time to get one now! Thank you for all your videos.
Well Mr Hunter, you might as well go ahead and take the plunge but go to some yard sales or flea markets and pick up some good old stuff because some of the new stuff like Lodge makes is pretty expensive. but the great thing about it is that that'll probably be the last cookware you ever buy. Now that don't mean that you don't need to keep you a really quality brand of a nonstick skillet to do some cooking on especially if your new added and it involves something like the cheese or anything. But like some commercial was talking about and I don't remember what it was but take the plunge. Go for the journey. Well I don't think it was a commercial now that I think about it I think it was is that Eddie Murphy movie G. But anyhow just jump in with both feet and I don't think you'll sink I think you will come up swimming! May God bless and happy cooking
Love your stuff, glad you brought others into it for their insight as well. Keep on doing it Kent and Shannon! To be honest, I knew for years that I had a couple cast iron pans in the drawer of my oven from when my wife and I bought the house, but it wasn't until I discovered your channel that I actually pulled them out and restored them, and then expanded my collection further.
I enjoyed this video very much. I have learned so much from the videos you posted about cast iron. I still remember my grandmother 's big "cook pot" she made a great many meals in it. What she called her "cook pot " was a large cast iron dutch oven many Sunday dinners were made in it. My cousin now has the pot, and she won't part with it. I bought a skillet, and a dutch oven recently. I love cooking in them. Thank you for sharing this.
I have a set of cast iron, that I will admit, I haven't used in a while but watching your video cooking expertise is making me re-think that I need to start again with those pieces of Americana. I even ordered a cast iron griddle/skillet for my 3 daughters as Christmas gifts to introduce them to cast iron, that hopefully they will find a great option and perhaps make them rethink real cooking that has worked for many, many generations. Thanks to both "Chefs' Kent and Shannon.
Hello Cowboy Kent and Shannon hope y'all are doing well. Love cast iron skillets especially the ones my mama gave me unfortunately they were stolen on my move this year I might not have them anymore but I'll have my memories of my Mama cooking with them especially her pan de campo. Stay safe sending prayers 🙏 and God's blessings. Much love and big tx hugs from South Tx.
My wife and I are getting a new induction range. Some of our pans won't work. I ended up getting the stargazer 12 inch. I am glad they give a veterans discount. I am looking forward to using it.
I love my cast iron cookware and use it regularly too like my grandmother and mother did. After years of using and having to discard so called non stick cookware I decided to go back to the original type and do love my cast iron and my steel woks.
Since finding CKR (they had 150k subs back then!) I've gone almost 100% cast iron. I've got 6 really good, old pieces, and recently purchased a 12" deep Dutch oven. It's taken some learning and un-learning, but now I'm convinced it's the way to go. I do keep one old 10" teflon around for quick things when I don't need heat retention and don't want to mess with the weight and the care, but otherwise it's all iron. Three nights ago I cooked fresh-caught catfish in my old stove-top Dutch oven (no legs), and it was the best I've ever had. Seriously, if you're trying to deep fry in teflon or other thin cookware you're not going to get that perfect crunch out the outside and tender/flakey on the inside. Fry your fish in cast iron!
Absolutely ironic, was thinking earlier this morning about my new cast iron skillet I recently purchased and have yet to use it, kinda a little intimidated by it actually so I am really looking forward to watching this video here! Thank you and be safe everyone 🙌🏼 🙏🏼
Mostly because of this channel I've been using cast iron more and more the first one was the Dutch oven for them amazing sparkling potatoes Rollins makes and it's been more cast sence thanks bud keep them coming
I still have all my parent's cast iron skillets and dutch ovens. Most of them are older than I am and I'm in my 50s. About 20 years ago I got rid of any pot or pan that wasn't cast iron that I had in the house. Best decision ever!
Great video. The only thing I knew about Stargazer cast iron is it's really good. And I can't afford it. But now I know they are less than a hour away from me. I use to live in the Lehigh Valley. Glad to learn about another great product being made in my state. Keep the videos coming. I love them all. God bless.
Hay Kent! My first vidio of yours was on “ Cowboy Coffee” best, funniest 15 minutes spent on TH-cam! Thank you for all you’ve done here.. good information, good humor and great folks! Keep it up we’ll all be here for ya!
Thank you Kent & Shannon! My husband's Grandma gave me every old aluminum skillet that made everything stick that she didn't want no more. I think she didn't like me very much. LOL. PS. I LOVE your screen room!!
Hey guys, awesome video as usual ! Just ordered a Weber cast iron plancha and a lodge cast iron skillet and did'n know much how to handle the seasoning ...well the timing is perfect. Thank you so much and please take care of yourselves and your lovely dogs.
Thank you Kent for the tips on cast iron cookware - warming it up gently before use (great tip) will definitely remember that one . Keep safe greetings from Sweden.

Enjoyed the video. I learned how to bake with cast iron ovens from your videos and still enjoy learning everything I can. Thanks.
You are so welcome
I enjoyed the experts and learning how to measure for the size. And getting iron from baking in cast iron. And using mild soap sometimes.
Absolutely ironic, was thinking earlier this morning about my new cast iron skillet I recently purchased and have yet to use it, kinda a little intimidated by it actually so I am really looking forward to watching this video here! Thank you and be safe everyone 🙌🏼 🙏🏼
I love cast iron. I have a few antique pans that I use and some new (well, not new anymore) pans. (Including a griddle and some skillets) Great tips!
I have a big 15" cast iron skillet I use for making home-made deep-dish pizza. It works great!
Sounds great!
Thank you Nancy for you invauable insight on how to use a ruler

How about a video on making dog treats with cast iron? Love our videos and the respect & sincerety you bring to them.
God bless.
Thanks for watching, God bless.
