I have mained Bayonetta since around the game's launch, with SIGNIFICANTLY more hours on her than any other character. I remember searching up tech for her and seeing people pulling off witch strike, but I could never find any videos explaining it well enough to where I could do it. Eventually, after a long LONG time and watching TamaP play the character I was able to figure it out. I'm so glad there's finally a good guide out there for a tech so useful
Really good job for a "simple" introductory guide for Witch Strike, you went over the main variables to execute it without doing into too much detail. One thing I'll add though is that the height of characters is a strong variable onto landing Witch Strike itself, which is kinda linked to the hurtbox shifting that you've talked about but taller character are more prone to reverse Witch Strike compared to shorter ones, etc. But still, very good complete guide !
What about tall characters do you think makes them more prone to reverse strike? Do you mean that bc they are tall they stick their limbs out further which makes the distance btwn where you hit them and where they snap back to larger? I feel like this is more true of tall and skinny characters specifically, tall chars like Ganon and even Rosa/Mewtwo can be tricky to strike bc their hurtbox is so wide
@@pawp_ssb Kinda. Tall and skinny characters Like Sephiroth, Joker, Bayonetta herself or even Palutena are more prone to the reverse Witch Strike, especially out of shield or simply during some combos just because it is a lot easier to clip their head ; they kinda fit the perfect height for a frame 1-3 Witch Twist jump cancel from the ground which transform into a reverse Witch Strike. Whereas, shorter ones like Pichu are almost impossible to Witch Strike efficiently. That's what I meant by height being a strong variable linked to hurtbox shifting. Don't even get me started on Rosa, she's an anti Witch Strike character, the wideness and Luma just make everything so hard for this tech.
Bro this is the best guide on her on the internet hands down! I thought i was schizo and just imagining that fast fallers went a shorter distance when hit by witch strike. I was like why arent the combos working? Thanks for mentioning this i was going insane LMFAO
This is an amazing guide I’ve been searching for my whole life 😭😭😭 can you do one on how to do reverse u air? I can’t seem to understand how to do it fast enough😭😭
I main Bayo for about 2 years now, and I've literally never learned how to do this tech. Thank you for making this video so I could further improve my gameplay!
Yea I thought it had something to do with the forward momentum you get from with twist but couldn’t quite figure it out. thanks for this guide! (also I‘m pretty sure it‘s only a turnaround if you face away from the opponent before)
I appreciate there finally being a detailed guide for WS so I can send people who I coach for Bayo! Also some great ideas and combos in there to incorporate! great video pawp! We need to game sometime!
I knew some of basics of witch strike but getting the full breakdown is helpful for bayos all around also didn’t know about that bottom corner hit box sending them behind you which just so happens to confirm into bair of all moves lol amazing stuff!
Every time I do witch strike, it's on complete accident. Lol and it happens, especially, on Byleth. Byleth is very easy to witch strike, for some reason. 🤔
I loved this so much! thank you.. Would absolutely love a guide like this explaining abk and the angles. been playing her for years and I'm still using her abk blindlessly, how do I know which angle I get?
I have mained bayonetta as well, and never have I seen a more usefull gyide than this one. You have inspired me Pawp, and I have enjoyed watching you play bayo since the beginning. You've truely change my bayo life forever. Thanks so much.
And also. Is it good to use this tech more often than not? I can only seem to do WT, then Reverse jump back WT to get the final hit to send them higher. Is it still good, or does it leave more room for error? Thanks!!
I would mostly save this for floaty characters or in spots where it will lead to a kill where normal wtw wouldn't. Luckily even if you mess it up a lot of times you'll just get a normal wtw and can react and finish out the combo normally. In spots where neither will kill, you're actually better off going for a normal wtw combo because it does more damage since you are hitting more hits of wtw
@@ammonpederson3584 I don't have a metafy but if you're interested in lessons the best way to reach me is to DM me @pawp_ssb on twitter and we can set something up!
Really well made video I learned a lot about this topic such as the reverse witch strikes and how they all differ. I do wanna add one thing tho, there’s an option select you can utilize so that you can always hit your witch strike follow ups. Let’s say you have an opponent where you’re not completely sure if their character will get witch striked or hit with the full up b, What you can do is as soon as you input the witch strike input immediately buffer a jump fair 123. this will make you immediately follow them up for the fair if the witch strike connects. When you buffer the jump fair 123 immediately buffer an additional fair 123. This makes it so the option select covers either option in real time so that if you make/miss the witch strike you’ll still follow up with the appropriate fair string either way if the strike connects or not. Lovely video ❤❤❤❤❤ much support
That's a really good point, because you're only hitting the first hit for a strike there is a lot less hit pause than a normal wtw. There's probably a lot of potential for options selects where you input the jump and if you get wtw it will get eaten by the buffer
You prob hear common stories of character combos dropping because a multi-hit move failed to work. Bayo is a funny character in that she is pretty much the only character in Smash history that gets better combos out of her moves not working properly. In SSB4, it is up tilt and occasionally up B, and in Ultimate, it is prominently up B as shown in this video.
You can SDI them just fine. Just this tech makes it difficult. Unless you encountered this tech specifically, you should have been able to SDI or even just DI out of most of her stuff fairly well.
@@aden774 Most of the stuff I was but when I started watching replays I noticed that when I was able to escape I was getting hit by multiverse throughout the up b but I got out WAY LESS when it was a single hit from up b. Bayonetta is a problem for me both character wise and personally so I watched a lot of replays and this was just really interesting. I main DK so I don’t escape super often anyway but yeah
I didn't cover reacting to different DI bc the fundamental concepts are the same. You want to set up the same spacing regardless of how they DI but certain DI's (DI out for example) make strikes much easier to land. If the opponent DI's utilt in I might jump forward ta wtw but if they DI away I would jump back wtw. Just different ways to create the same position
This is the kind of precision expected of Bayonetta players regularly.
So I'm ok with these discoveries.
