Hang in there. My little brother passed 5 years ago. I like to imagine that his spirit is with me when I go on adventures. Prayers for you and your family.
Hey man, I’m really sorry to hear about your loss. If my videos help bring some brightness to your day, then I’m honored to keep pushing to make them. Sorry it’s been a while. My thoughts are with you and your family, and I know your brother is up there watching over you making sure you catch lots of fish. On the days you don’t catch anything, that’s just him giving you some brotherly love...❤️
By the way, don’t overdo it on yourself, you should be happy when you make these videos! Not stressed that we’re going to leave if you don’t upload. Anyways, just know that we all love your videos no matter when they come out or how long it’s been since the last one. 🤙
Thank you man, it really means a lot to hear that. TH-cam can definitely stress you out a bit but mostly I just miss you guys. Lot of background work happening right now, but we're almost back in business 👌 🎣 🔥
😂😂 Haha im doing the SAME THING!! Also im bout to do the same content on my channel next week. Im just waiting for my gopro. Carch and cook and upload to youtube. Hopefully
I jut discovered this channel...I really enjoy watching it. I grew up in Oregon and as a teenager I would hike up in the mountains to the high lakes to camp and fish for a few days. This show revives good memories.
Dude I just found you channel about a month ago and I’ve never felt the amount of joy I feel when watching your enthusiasm and love for nature and fishing
the look on your face and how excited you are when you scooped up all those fish was priceless, this reflects through the awesome content you make for us to enjoy thanks!
Always a good day when you upload! Smelt are way fun to catch, use to catch them in Maine as a kid. We would go to streams running off lakes in the spring at night with flashlights and catch them with nets. Good memories!
Not gonna lie, after watching your videos i couldnt stop! I introduced your channel to my friends and now were planning for a survival trip to Norway, I even starting fishing in my sparetime. - Keep up the great work! Best greetings from Denmark!
Food for my soul. Thank you for showing this restored and sustained fishery. Gives me hope. Your exuberance and excitement is awesome! And your radio DJ-voice is a pleasure to listen to. Your respect and appreciation for the little smelts is appreciated! Thank you for sharing this.
Been dip netting with my dad and older brother during the smelt run and it was awesome. Even finished the day with sturgeon fishing. It’s awesome to see you doing what I used to do with my family.
@@NWFishingSecrets it’s been a while but we had a family friend who owns pacific coast charters does all kinds of fishing trips, from halibut, tuna, sturgeon and salmon. Not sure if he is still around but it might be worth a look.
I am from Camano Island Wa. and I have fond memories of smelt raking with my Dad, grandfather and cousins while growing up. All of us had a WONDERFUL time! I also remember my grandmother and my sister cleaning the smelt using kitchen scissors, they make the cleaning quick and easy work! Looks like you had a great time! Thank you for sharing!!!
I've introduced you to my dad, he's 78, but so very experienced in sea/lake/river fishing throughout the UK, parts of Asia, some parts of America, and Australia and New Zealand where we live now. He also lived in Germany for 3 years during his service. Anyway, he likes what you do, from what I could send to him to watch. Once I go down after Christmas, I'll show him how to connect to your vids. He'll love it. Thanks Leif x
(I'd say it about time for a new video.) Glad to see ya back bro. Bought extra gear. Getting a canoe. Going full time by June. I've been homeless for 8 years on my land might as well be doing this. Thx again bro. Helped me get off my ass.
I’ve been on TH-cam for a while now and I’m pretty perturbed that I’m JUST discovering you now! I’m addicted to your content, your excitement about being outdoors is so contagious - my new favorite TH-camr! Fish on! 🎣
The most high quality fishing videos on youtube right here. I don't know another youtuber that puts this much time and effort into fishing/catch and cook videos.
Happy to see you posting, Leif! It has been a while since your last vid! Thanks to your videos I've been inspired to begin putting together a little backpacking/fishing trip here in Washington this summer! Fish on, baby!
Eulachon make spectacular torches too! They don't get the nickname of candlefish for nothing :) We lit one on fire and it burned for several minutes. They're such a remarkable fish. Love your drone shots in this! Really captures the feel of the whole scene with so many fish returning!
Awesome video! Back in the day, like the 80's and 90's, me, my bro and my pops would go up all the time. We would get like two or three bucket fulls. We would always go after sunset since the fish were more inclined to hug the shore. It was always two to three dips per bucket. They were always great smoked, deep fried and of course as bait for sturgeon. However, we all know that all good things eventually come to an end. We got older, my pops did as well, the run sizes crashed and the fishery went away. I am glad to see a return of these great fish. Hopefully one day we will see a return of a great sturgeon fishery as well. Take care and thanks for sharing. You do it right and the way you treat the resource is commendable. Thank you!
I just started following your TH-cam videos. I've seen some amazing places that you've been at and the fishing. Just no words can describe the serenity and beauty that you have visited!!!
I’ve heard that smelt are coming. I haven’t tried yet. Me and my dad tried black mouth at ma 13, but me and my dad didn’t get any. Holy moly there’s tons.
Literally you changed the game with the cheesy tortillas . I can’t get enough of them . Did a couple trout catch and cooks so far this year inspired by you. Thanks for the tips!
Thank you Mansour! I appreciate your concern 👍 I wear a mask when it's required, but not outside or when I'm with family or friends. We are all healthy and those who are concerned can get vaccinated 😊 I like to keep my immune system strong, and a mask prevents us from getting exposed to important bacteria and viruses to do so👌
The excitement on your face is amazing, I'm so happy to see another video! Hopefully you've been doin alright!! The fish shimmer such an interesting blue color from above. Beautiful!
Been watching your videos for over two years now and your channel has gone up a whole ton congratulations on your success and hopefully you get a million subs soon
Nest to brook trout smelt are my favourite fish hands down....battered in flower, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and fried in coconut oil....gawsh...so good👌
Glad to see you back bud another great video love the excitement you express in your videos... congratulations on the land cant wait to see what you do with it and what's coming next... fish on
Netting smelt was a cool video. It reminds me of gathering grunion on the Oregon coast beaches. My dad would dry these guys and eat em bones and all. Look it up .......maybe a future episode 😊
Gotta love the smelt. In the 70's many times we would fill a 5 gallon bucket with one scoop. Even broke a few net handles. Kalama, Lewis, Sandy, Cowlitz, Washougal, Grays, they all had them. Hope they continue to rebound.
I haven’t fished in so long... watching these makes me crave getting out there! Once fishing opens back up (currently restricted due to UK lockdown) - I’m heading straight out! Love the content, great video as usual. Nice to see you back!
I grew up dipping for surf Smelt at Kalaloch Beach 4 in the Olympic National Park...It's wild how many you will see in the waves...you should definitely check that out some time! Love your videos! You've inspired me to get fishing again - thank you!

Nothing but good vibes from this man's videos.
They get leathery feeling when they're in the river a while.
Interesting! So not leathery when still out in the salt?
@@NWFishingSecrets The scales get everywhere.
That looks like the best feeling ever and preparation. And yes survivor videos all together with fishing
I’ve always wondered how to cook a smelt.
I smoke them
Toss in flour and fry. Pull the spine out like you would a trout and eat em up. Or smoke them
ur videos r the only thing that make me truly happy😢
