    I was diagnosed with non alcoholic steatosis at 35. I was very active cycling 200 miles a week and jogging 30 miles a week. I was so confuse and didn't want to be a liver transplant candidate and made changes to my diet by aggressively cutting sugar out from my diet. Within a year my enzymes went back to normal and I haven't had any issues. It's amazing what diet can do to your body.

    I just have to share my fatty liver story (this is before I knew about your channel)! I had gotten a CT scan (post chemo check up) and the oncologist said that I had the beginnings of fatty liver disease and "watch what you eat." Well, that didn't tell me much! I went to my friend, who's a nutritionist, and asked him what to do. He told me it was a carb problem, not a fat problem, as you might think from the name of the disorder. I worked to improve my diet by lowering total carbs, avoiding bad carbs, etc. Fast forward to my next CT scan. Fatty liver GONE! It can be done! I so appreciate all your educational information. I recommend you to friends all the time. (And I'm in love with Rose!) Thank you for this video!

    Just diagnosed with fatty liver and gallstones. Found Dr Fung a few days ago, also Dr Ken Berry. First thing MD said was to see a GI specialist to check the liver further, and have surgery to remove the gallbladder. I said no to both - despite having been a nurse for 47 years, I know that the medical profession would rather prescribe a pill or do surgery than actually treat the underlying problem. Same with my type 2 DM - I control it without meds or insulin, am on a modified keto diet, but about to go full bore. Thanks for letting us know about the substitute spaghetti types. Love your vids.

      he's a nephrologist from Toronto, Canada--many of his kidney disease patients also had type 2 diabetes and couldn't lose weight--he set up a weight management program centered on intermittent fasting (and when you're diabetic you have to be carefully monitored)--many of his patients have been able to get rid of most of their meds as their weight decreased-he is getting a lot of "grief" from these diet companies (Weight Watchers, Jenny Craig etc.)--because the diet industry is a multi-billion dollar industry and his advice will cut into their profits (fasting doesn't cost anything, and it's far better than what they offer)

    1980 is around the time food companies started using HFCS as a sugar replacement, first only in drinks like soda but it became more and more prevalent as time passed. The imbalance of fructose and sucrose causes excess strain on the liver and heightened fat storage, and since most mainstream processed foods (especially condiments) contain it, regular consumption leads to insulin resistance, then metabolic syndrome, NAFLD and diabetes.

      @@elizabethreed5648 It’s been several months since you posted, and I hope your mom hasn’t wasted away. If she tolerates meats and fish well, her focus should be small, frequent high-protein meals. Yogurt, meats, fish, eggs. If she can tolerate some fat, include some fattier cuts and fish. Minimize or skip the carbs and sugars. They’re much harder to digest after gastrectomy and do nothing for providing nutrition. If she’s able to lift any weights, even light ones, that would greatly help her put on a bit of muscle. Muscle loss in aging is a huge factor in loss of mass, strength, bone mass, and affects overall longevity.

    I am so pleased to find this !! My GP is not interested in anything except PILLS ! When I try to change things around, they complain about the state of my LIVER, and/or KIDNEYS.
    Sometimes they don't even know which, and think it's MY fault. Then I find out 3 prescribed meds can damage liver/kidneys, and also known to make your hair fall out.

    Non-alcoholic fatty liver is very common. It is generally diagnosed via ultrasound but many doctors will not tell you and if they do, they don't tell you what to do about it. Maybe, because a lot of their prescribed medications are metabolized in the liver and they don't want you to know that.

It was oatmeal for breakfast, cream of chicken soup for lunch, baked potatoe, turkey sandwich on white or wheat, etc. I couldn’t believe all the carbs ! I’m no diet expert but I knew it was so wrong. So I went low carb, not quite keto but close, and lost 30 lbs, A1C down, liver enzymes down, LDL DOWN ! LDL was a huge surprise because it dropped so fast (3 months) from 280 to 180. My body just can’t take starchy foods though I love it so the transition was tough. I eat lots of protein, veg and fresh fruit and the numbers keep dropping.

    The culprit is High Fructose Corn Syrup. It’s hard to find food and beverage manufacturers that don’t use it these days. HFCS is metabolized in your liver and it’s getting overwhelmed when it can’t break it down. White cane sugar is metabolized in the kidneys and doesn’t cause as much damage to the kidneys as HFCS does. I was under doctor supervision and lost 65+ plus pounds by drastically reducing or eliminating HFCS.

  • @TheYazmanian

    I am overwhelmed and confused now. Previously you said whole grain pasta and lentil pasta was good and didn't spike blood sugar, now all of a sudden it spikes blood sugar and creates and insulin response and now we have to avoid it. Someone please clarify this contradictory info? I was also under the impression that hemp hearts had too much omega 6? Going keto can't be the only way to fix fatty liver disease. This was by far the most depressing info I've consumed in a while. No oatmeal even?

    • @renniepalmer5564
      @renniepalmer5564 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I don't believe oats are entirely taboo. I actually went on an eating program that included oats, rice, quinoa, and couscous, and lost 46lbs in about 7-8 months. I think monitoring how much of those grains you eat per day is key. So, for instance, I eat cooked or soaked oats that measure to half a cup dry and that is the only grain serving I eat for the entire day. I have 1/2 cup of cooked rice for one of my meals, and that's it for the day. Same with quinoa or couscous. Insulin spikes every time you eat, but if you're controlling how much grain you are consuming you're also making sure that the spike doesn't get out of control. I think Bobby is right in giving advice to steer clear of grains for those who have fatty liver disease, but once that liver has had a chance to heal and function the way it's supposed to, I think it's actually good to have some healthy grains on the menu.

    • @maddisonbythesea3015

      Rennie Palmer but couscous is not a grain. Couscous is actually made using semolina (as for when making pasta) and processed into little 'grain like' shapes.

    • @renniepalmer5564
      @renniepalmer5564 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@nadinecamara5123 yes that's right, couscous is made using semolina granules, but semolina is made from crushed durum wheat, which is a grain :) That really wasn't so much my point. Rather it was that there are some grain-like healthy foods that are higher in carbohydrates (which can over-spike insulin if overeaten), but as long as they are eaten in moderate amounts, they shouldn't be a problem.
