Writing my first ever youtube comment because the analysis is just SO spot on. As a huge Jane Austen fan, this movie fell flat for me and you put into words perfectly every disappointment and redeeming quality. I also love the 2005 P&P, but my favorite adaptation is the mashup in my mind where Keira Knightly is Lizzy Bennet and Colin Firth is Mr. Darcy.
I know it's not realistic to hold onto hope for the Sarah Snook and Joel Fry Persuasion but a GIRL CAN DREAM. Great breakdown! Agree that Louisa/Nia Towle was lovely. Hope to see her in more films.
Just found your channel and sad that there are no other post in 9 months. ? Hope to encourage you to continue. I enjoy DIY home reno, sewing, knitting, crochet, spinning fiber, history bounding, camping, Jane Austen and more plus adorable kitty that looks like my favorite Maine Coon kitty.💖 "Miss G" & my little yorkie "Connor". Very much enjoy your content. Please keep up the great videos. Best wishes, ☺️🐦🐿️🐕🐱
I tried so hard to like this movie. I agree, the cottage core vibes are *chef's kiss* but... I found myself... bored? It was hard to care when the main character is generally unlikeable and entitled. When cringe moments happened, I found myself thinking, "You brought that on yourself girl." I don't know if I actually finished the movie... It is so mediocre that it isn't even fun to hate on.
100% agree with you that Mary and the older Mr. Elliott were *perfection* but that they completely missed the mark on Anne's characterization 😢. Great review (and I'm a fellow 2005 P&P fan)!
Mary was life in this movie! I was pleasantly surprised by Cosmo Jarvis as Wentworth. I had high hopes for Anne as I feel protective of her character overall. This was not it for all the reasons you stated. The writers missed the mark horribly with her.
I, too, am saddened we didn’t get a Sarah Snook/Joel Fry Persuasion.

Hilarious 😂 and fair ❤
OK I guess I'll have to fight you one day (P&P2005...) but this video was so great, and the criticism very honest and balanced, thanks a lot!!
Each review of this movie differs a little, but all agree on the optopus scene =D
