Ever since Star Wars Rebels, there have been hints that Sabine Wren was going to be a very powerful dark side user. From her duel with Kanan, her ability to yield the darksaber, and connection to her Mandalorian heritage--we think that the show Ahsoka is going to see her finally unleash these dark side abilities.

    #Ahsoka #Sabine #darkside
There is a mountain of evidence that says not only is it possible that Sabine could end up being a villain in this show, but she could be one of the strongest dark side users we’ve ever seen in Star wars.
Now we've talked about a lot of potential plot twists in ahsoka, like how Baylon could be a knight of ren, Marrok could be Ezra, and how the people in the other galaxy could be night sisters. Now one of the reasons we thought Ezra might turn out to be marrok is because the opening titles of the Star Wars shows always show villains in red and heroes in blue-and Mark's helmet is blue. But sabine;’s is red.
Doug: Of course, they were all red in e pisode 1.
True. so I didnl;t think much of it. Until the training scene in episode 3. So this scene clearly connects to Luke's training in a new hope [clips, fade]. But also, it's a reverse of when she trained with Kanan in rebels. Small bit of backstory for you here-or a lot of backstory, this show is deep in lore.
So a mandalorian jedi named tarre vizsla creates the darksaber, then uses it to conquer mandalore-so to some mandalorians, the saber is still a sign of divine rule over the planet. During the clone wars, Maul started a mandalorian civil war when he owned the saber in combat.
But Maul also has a strong connection to the people of Morgan elsbeth-the night sisters of Dathomir. Mauk’s mother was the leader of the night sisters, and she used her dark side Magik to heal her son’s wounds and use him as a weapon against Palpatine. And this is important. Paltpaine and the nightsisters both use the dark side, but in totally different ways. We have seen night sisters like Merrin from fallen order use the dark side of the force to do good things and help people.
So near the end of the clone wars, dooku killed the night sisters, and maul left his darksaber on dAthomir-the night sister planet. That’s where it was found by sabine. And in the same episode, the spirit of mother talzin out a curse on Sabine, and uses her body to fight her friends [clip]. This is all very important information, trust me. So Sabine had the darksaber, and wanted to use it to inspire her people to rebel against the empire.
So kanan, the jedi knight, had to teach her how to use the saber. And this is what brings us back to this episode. These two sequences of Sabine’s training showcase her tendency toward the dark side. [clip for broll]
So Kanan spent several training sessions just mandhandling sabine-she didn;t stand a chance against him nor Ezra. but then, her fellow mandalorian, fenn rau, encouraged her to fight him using mandlorian techniques [clip]. And that worked. The mandalorians are the opposite of jedi in many watts. They’re passionate warriors who think of offense before defense. This is one reason Huyang says [few mandalorian jedi].
So the darksaber is a unique lightsaber, because, as kanan explains it [it channels your emotions].this is why din had such a hard time lifting the saber-he was conflicted about using it, but bo-katan never doubted that she was ready to rule mandalore.
But then, Sabine starts to do very well in her duel against Kaan when she uses her emotions [clip]. Her fighting style looks distinctly sith - powered by emotions, burdened by guilt, aggressive and overwhelming enemies with power. [splitscreen with Anakin] And she tries to do the same thing against Ahsoka in their duel.

I don't think Sabine will turn, but I do have a theory on why there's not many jedi from Mandalore. Within Mandalorian culture, there is a key component of self-improvement. Part of that is a struggle and using one's anger to push themselves forward. That is why there aren't many jedi from Mandalore. I'd bet there's a lot of force users but they suppress or block themselves from the force through cultural pressure.

I was infinitely disappointed when the knights of Ren didn't ever do much at all in the sequels. As for Sabine I don't think she will turn evil, because if I think about her life, she has already suffered incredible loss and betrayal several times, was tricked into inventing a weapon of mass destruction at a young age and had a chance to rule mandalore as a warlord. If Sabine wasn't such a genuinely good person, she could've become a horrifying villain long ago. But I can completely see her use the dark side as a weapon: in Rebels she excells more than any SW character I know at using explosives, which are purely offensive, destructive weapons and while Ezra goes out of his way to be nonlethal and the show is generally more for kids and avoids casually showing death, Sabine absolutely kills A TON of people with her bombs while fighting on the side of good. If I were to trust anyone to use dark side powers responsibly, it would be this type of person who knows violence and it's consequences from both sides and has already commanded great destructive power but never abused it or grown too attached to it.

Also Ahsoka says in the third episode that she's not training Sabine to be a jedi, she's training her to be herself -- and Huyang confrims that she indeed does come from a long line of unconventional jedis, so it all kind of makes sense for Sabine to become a darkside using hero. This would also explain why Filloni dialed back Ahsoka to "Ahsoka the grey" because she will ascend to "Ahsoka the white" when she purifies her dark side using aprentice as she did with her lightsaber crystals that were once made to bleed.

While most dark side wielders that we've seen have killed innocents, there isn't a blood oath or anything to use the dark side of the Force. The dark side in itself isn't malevolent, it is just exists as an aspect of the Force. One can use the dark side with good intentions and we've seen a lot of Jedi use it throughout the Skywalker Saga. Obi-Wan when he cut Maul in half, Luke whenever he force-choked and force-crushed, Mace Windu channeled his inner darkness in his combat style. The problem is when a user cannot maintain a balance between the duality and allow the raw emotions to consume them.

Perhaps she doesn't come all the way back but instead becomes more of a gray Jedi/Bendu. The more excited I get for the Mando-Verse, the more depressed I get about the sequel trilogy. And Dooku had mastery of the most advanced dark side abilities... but he used them with such relaxed dispassion. He lacked some of the physical deforminites (notably the "Sith eyes") but instead seemed totallg in control.

    *Andor*
Rewatching Andor, it's now my #1 best and favorite of the Disney+ SW series. It plays out like several different movies in it. With Cassian, it's like The Fugitive (1993) after the first 3 episodes. Then it becomes a heist film, then a prison break film, and then In The Line Of Fire (1993)/Vantage Point (2008) that leads to a riot.
We forget Forrest Whitaker who was in Vantage Point makes a great appearance as Saw Gerrera again. With Dedra, it coincides Cassian in prison as a court drama. Then all kinds of stuff happening with Syril, Luthen, and Mon Mothma. This might be peak Star Wars and it's funny because it's the least like Star Wars.
Tony Gilroy explores the people on the ground-level and basement. There are no Jedis here. Nobody who is Force sensitive. They're just the everyday, blue-collar people dealing with the Empire. Notice Gilroy didn't use too many aliens. He had mostly human characters. No goofy aliens to cater to children. And his characters act the most realistic from any SW.
Andor is like The Godfather of Star Wars. I might prefer it over The Empire Strikes Back which sounds blasphemous to me. But rewatch it. I know it can be slow. The conversations with Dedra sounds like the courtroom drama in Oppenheimer's last 30 minutes. But the payoff from some of the slower, heavy dialogue scenes makes it all worth it after you see Ep 6, 10, and 12.

Original Trilogy had the best characters and films in them. The best story. Simple to follow. It's the ugliest visually even with the touch-ups from the SEs. But c'mon, it had Vader, Yoda, and Han. My three favorite characters of Star Wars.
Disney+ series ranked higher than the Prequels and Sequels thanks to The Mandalorian and Andor being superior to Revenge Of The Sith and The Force Awakens or whichever you think is the best film from each trilogy. Disney+ series is also the most visually impressive. What a waste of a budget showing it for streaming.
Prequels had the best lightsaber duels. It got to expand the galaxy further. But it's below the Disney+ series because as much I enjoyed Revenge Of The Sith, the writing is not superior to the script Jon Favreau did for The Mandalorian and Tony Gilroy did for Andor. Prequels arguably had the weakest dialogue and acting. The CGI from 20 years ago is starting to look dated compared to the newer SW.
Sequel Trilogy had potential to be better than the Prequels but was brought down by Rian's poor characterization of Luke. I actually watched parts of The Force Awakens yesterday and it actually holds up pretty well. Showed so much promise for the newer characters. But The Last Jedi completely ruined them. Once The Rise Of Skywalker came out, it was too little, too late. Nobody cared by that point.
Real quick, I actually feel bad for Daisy Ridley. What did she do wrong to get so much hate? "She ruined Star Wars" because she's a female? And SW nerds wants dudes especially white dudes like Anakin, Luke, and Han as protagonists? Lucky Pedro and Diego have penises. Or people will turn from sexists to racists.
Daisy didn't write that shit. Rey wanted a family since she was a scavenger and Rian's "Jake" Skywalker kept refusing to train her. Then she becomes overpowered and labeled a Mary Sue because so many nerds were pissed at Rian, Kathleen, and TLJ. Daisy doesn't come off as Brie Larson or Rachel Zegler. She seems nice but people hate her Rey because she's overpowered or a girl?
I think Rey gets overhated for the dumbest reasons. I'm not saying Rey is a great character. She could've been if she was written better. I'm not dying to see her next SW movie. I just feel she's overhated and the writers messed up on her and Kylo Ren as great SW characters. Neither one got there. Wasted opportunity.
Anthology is ranked last because we only got 2 films. Rogue One is the best Disney SW film but Solo brought the Anthology down for me. Had it only been Rogue One, I'd place Anthology 4th since Rogue One is better than SW Ep 1, 2, and 7-9. I think it's written better than Revenge Of The Sith but I probably enjoy ROTS more.
Tony Gilroy is the best director among all SW content creators. Better than Lucas, Kershner, Filoni, and Favreau. Andor and Rogue One have the least resemblance to a typical Star Wars film but remain 2 of the best from the franchise.
My 10 Best Episodes From Disney+ SW
    1. One Way Out (Andor S1E10)
    2. The Eye (Andor S1E6)
    3. The Rescue (Mando S2E8)
    4. Rix Road (Andor S1E12)
    5. Redemption (Mando S1E8)
    6. From The Desert Comes A Stranger (TBoBF E6)
    7. Return Of The Mandalorian (TBoBF E5)
    8. Part VI (Obi-Wan E6)
    9. The Marshal (Mando S2E1)
    10. Part III or V (Obi-Wan E3 or E5)
Ahsoka hasn't given us a great episode yet. It may get there. I'm with John Campea where I don't love Ahsoka yet. I still have my issues with it and it's not necessarily the slow pacing. Andor can be very slow too with lots of dialogue from Dedra and Mon Mothma. But I believe Ahsoka has potential to be great once we get transported to this different galaxy that Thrawn and perhaps Ezra are in.
On IMDb, the scores for Obi-Wan is lower than TBoBF. But I think TBoBF kinda cheated when they brought back Din Djarin to save that series. TBoBF Ep 5 and 6 should've been Mando S3 episodes. I still consider TBoBF worse than Obi-Wan. At least Vader kicked ass in Ep 3, 5, and 6 of Obi-Wan and we got to see Qui-Gon.
    IMDb Scores
    The Mandalorian: 8.7
The Book Of Boba Fett: 7.2
    Obi-Wan Kenobi: 7.1
    Andor: 8.4
    Ahsoka: 8.1
My Favorite Characters From Disney+ SW
    1. Kino Loy
    2. Din Djarin
    3. Grogu
    4. The Armorer
    5. Peli Motto
    6. Luthen Rael
    7. Cassian Andor
    8. Darth Vader
    9. Obi-Wan Kenobi
    10. Luke Skywalker
    11. Greef Karga
    12. Migs Mayfield (love Bill Burr!)
    13. Mon Mothma (moved up a few spots)
    14. Vel Sartha
    15. Maarva Andor
    16. Bo-Katan Kryze
    17. Cad Bane (wish we saw more of him)
    18. Dedra Meero
    19. Ahsoka Tano
    20. Shin Hati
Andy Serkis as Kino Loy is a top 3 performance from him only behind Gollum and Caesar. Better than when he voiced Snoke. He was only in like 3 episodes in Andor and I felt it's his best character as a human. He was so intense. I know Grogu is just to sell toys but I still adore the little guy. That little 50-year-old green baby.
Vader is really my favorite SW character but I'm only basing it from performances in these Disney+ series and we only saw him in like 3 episodes of Obi-Wan. Vader is my 2nd favorite movie character of all-time only behind RDJ's Iron Man. My top 6 are Iron Man, Vader, Batman, Yoda, Indiana Jones, and Han Solo. Three of my top 6 comes from the OG SW Trilogy. And four came from George Lucas.
FYI, never been a fan of Hayden's acting. Don't care if Prequel fans defend him. Way too wimpy and whiney for my taste. This is why ROTS has fallen a bit lately. Prequel fans overrate the shit out of it and I watched ROTS 3x in different formats (regular, digital, IMAX) that first week. ROTS' writing is inferior to Andor's. "Hold me like you did by the lake in Naboo."
I personally like Obi-Wan more than Kino and Luthen from the entire Star Wars franchise, but Kino and Luthen were more interesting in Andor than Obi-Wan was in his own show. Giving us too much Reva didn't help. Such a shame Carrie Fisher died. She would've loved that little girl portraying Leia and taking selfies with her.
TBoBF was mostly slow and boring those first 4 episodes. Then the weak finale. Obi-Wan had a few brilliant moments and some kickass Vader scenes but then had the dumbest writing like men having a hard time chasing a little girl and Obi-Wan hiding Leia under a trench coat with hundreds of Stormtroopers and Imperial officers walking by and nobody notices it.
I know when the trailer for Andor S2 comes out, nobody will really care. But I can't wait for it. I think S2 will make Cassian's death in Rogue One more meaningful for the sacrifices he had to do. And I like that S2 is the final season. Tony Gilroy knows not to wear out his welcome like other directors who keeps making worthless sequels or seasons.
Andor is now my new heavyweight champion of Star Wars. OG Trilogy had the best characters and maybe the best music but Andor wins at everything else and the characters and music are pretty good already. Didn't use Volume tech like the other series did. Many scenes were in real locations. The most depth in story and characters I've ever seen from Star Wars.
We have it good now, people. Yeah, I know the lightsaber fights aren't as good as the Prequels. But I think the Disney+ SW are mostly better than the Prequels and Sequels. VFX looks flawless like jumping from PlayStation 2 and 3 to PlayStation 4 and 5. Once we get to the gist of the story with Ahsoka maybe by Ep 5 or 6, sky is the limit. It can be as great as Andor even after a slow start like Andor had.
Let's get to this new galaxy with Ahsoka and it's going to open up so many possibilities in terms of story and introducing new characters and worlds. And this can eliminate people asking how come Luke wasn't hanging out with Ahsoka all those years or 20 years before he met Rey? Because Ahsoka was in a different galaxy.

Something that came to my attention recently is that House Wren is a part of the larger House Vizla so conceivably while she may not have the name Vizla, Sabine may have inherited a potential with the force from Tarre Vizla's lineage. Not that all Vizla's are even moderately force sensitive but they all had an increased probability of sensitivity thanks to their connection to Tarre.

    • @NamesSmeg

A Jedi can have a force sensitive child, just as much as an inert, lopsided, window licking mentally challenged child. (why do we not see genetic deformities? Even on backwater planets? We see a deformed clone, and he got a sad, but very real ending, but name me 3 other characters just as naturally fucked up that guy)
And there is muddling. Enough force sensitive blood, mixing with non force sensitive blood, and it dilutes. Yes it can happen, but it's so rare that even a weak force sensitive is almost a non probability.

Don’t think she’ll become a Sith or “Dark Jedi”. I think the show will end up with the Filoni-verse traveling or getting stuck in the other/s Galaxy - into a new and different Star Wars with new set of rules for The Force. That way he’ll have full liberty to write his stories without worrying into setting up Episodes 7, 8 and 9.

Sabine being tempted to go dark seems feasible. Ahsoka will redeem her past of 'allowing' Anakin to go dark, by bringing Sabine to choose light. But it will be at the cost of her life. Sabine is destined to become the next Tar Vizla and that will be fulfilled in Filoni's epic movie.

Ahsoka may be the person who guides Sabine to use the dark side. Just as she stopped telling Sabine what to do during their dog fight and eventually asked her what she needed from her instead. In this instance Ahsoka may sense that Sabine's inability to be controlled by her emotions will eventually lead her down a dark path just like Anakin. This may lead Ahsoka to the conclusion that she is better off training her how to use the dark side of the force for good instead of evil rather than risking the possibility of someone evil becoming her master. This is a decision that no Jedi would make but as Ahsoka said herself 'I am no Jedi'.

Theres some errors here. That’s not how the Sith came to be it wasn’t a single Jedi, it was a group who were exiled & their ship ended up on Korriban & they met the Sith race & then took over the planet & took these people’s name to create the Sith. Also the 1st force users used both sides but they started killing each other for dominance but for different reasons. The “dark” for power & the light for “control”. After all the the users of the dark were wiped the Jedi moved to a new planet but they remained fearful of the dark. As for Sabine, there’s some missed stuff. Ahsoka stopped training Sabine b/c Sabine was not open to it, she was being trained to let go of her Mandolorian heritage ; she tried training her like one would during her time in the Jedi. These two heritages kept conflicting. Sabine found the Darksaber b/c it was calling through the Force & she heard it ; there other times we see her hear Echoes. It got easier for Sabine to wield the blade against Kanan b/c she was opening herself up & dealing. When we see her fights later with it she is more sure of herself & in control. Her arc here it seems is she has to learn she doesn’t have to be a Jedi by the rules of the former fallen Republic, she can be herself a proud Mando that uses the Force to her ways of her people

1:50, It should be noted that Nightsister magick works differently from regular Force powers, as it channels the Force through an external medium, that being the Dathorian ichor native to the lifeforms of the planet (the green-glowing mist and flame the Nightsisters generate and is similar in concept to midichlorians, suggesting a connection to it) as well as other locations and objects (such as Dagobah’s Dark Side cave and kyber crystals imbued with the essence of their wielder’s and their alignment in the Force) with a significant Force presence (the ichor is even able to contain spirits of previous Nightsisters that have wielded it just as lightsiders that transcend their physical form become ghosts bonded to the Cosmic Force). They do not channel the Force directly through themselves (with those unable to avoid do so going insane due to the heavy Dark Side presence in the ichor, 17:40 which Merrin alludes to in her analogical comparison between fire and determination and how destructive both can be when unmanaged) which is how they are able to use the Dark Side and various unnatural abilities without it affecting their minds or bodies.
Regular darksiders indeed channel the Dark Side through themselves, hence the reason for most Dark Side characters (especially those with a strong tendency to interact with it or a particular susceptibility to being exposed to it due to internal conflict, intense emotions or malevolent thoughts) exhibiting physical and mental degradation as it takes control of them (most famously shown with Palpatine’s disfigurement and extreme megalomania and Anakin’s rapid descent from a person with a sense of honor and morality to a deranged child murderer who choked the very person he was looking to protect on a thoughtless impulse).

This view of dark vs light makes a lot of sense, but I remember reading in the (admittedly legends) Darth Bane trilogy and also in some interview with George Lucas where they explained that the Dark Side is the "exaltation of self," whereas the Light Side is the epitome of being selfless.
This poetically explains why Jedi, who are all about giving of themselves to the Force, are able to become Force Ghosts, whereas Sith, who always selfishly pursue power, are unable to obtain that which they seek the most--immortality, since in order to become a Force Ghost (and therefore immortal) you need to give yourself entirely to the Force and be utterly at balance with it... something the Sith could never do.
George also explained in one interview that the Force being at balance doesn't mean having equal numbers of Jedi and Sith--the Force is naturally at balance, but the Dark Side unbalances it, it's a disease of the Force.
Personally, the way you explained it is easier to understand and works much better with the Children of Mortis arc, but the true canon understanding of the Dark and Light may encompass both views.
Sorry I'm not providing any sources, I read/watched them years ago! ^^; I think the interview with George was somewhere on TH-cam, it was probably some bonus footage ripped from a Prequel Trilogy DVD and uploaded.

In more recent time (specifically the Disney era), there seems to a lot of this idea that the light and dark side form a yin and Yang. This was never the original intent by George Lucas. The “light” side was the force itself, in its pure form and the “dark” side was the corruption of the force, bending it to one’s desire which is inherently evil and selfish. That’s why there has never (at least up to this point) of a morally good dark side user.

This is why I think Sabine can use the dark side but not be drawn to it. Sabine running from the ceramony in Episoid 1 shows she not looking for power or fame, she dosen't need the recognition, which is something people falling to the dark side tend to want.

In your last bit near the end of this vid you mention some heroic figures who also use some dark side powers but are not evil.
Forgot to mention Luke, who used force choke on the guard at Jabba's palace in ESB.
There was the whole "Luke being tempted by the dark side" thing through the entire original trilogy, but then near the end of ROTJ, after he rescues Vader, his tunic is open and there is white underneath the black. He was good all along (yay).... anyway.
    Layers! More nuanced storytelling!

Nah. Way too complicated. The fundamental flaw in your theory is that this character has already "been through the fire" in her character arc. With the whole Anti-Beskar Superweapon, she was responsible for the death of a lot of people. She's already been tempted by evil. She's already made that choice and keeps reaffirming it all the time.

YESSS I’ve been thinking this since the start Sabine has all the characteristics of a dark side user

Very good synopsis of "dark side", Mando Jedi, Sabine and the house of (W)Ren. I spoke about this today at work, but forgot about Sabine's brother.

The more I think about it, the more this show does seem to be Ahsoka's internal redemption arc. It seems like it would be an extreme gut punch if Sabine turns, however, seeing that turn and understanding why / how it happens would be really good to watch. Especially if Sabine is later redeemed. Ahsoka isn't the end of the story for many characters.

I think Shin Baddie is going to have a big part in Sabine's "fall" to the darkside. Sabine being a powerful force user wouldn't make a lot of sense to me, but her being very in tune with the force could be super awesome, like the blind guy in Rogue One. Her combat skills plus the push of the darkside will make her very dangerous. I like the idea of showing different levels in the force.

@@steveleeart Idk if she would be full sith or evil. But she will most likely tap into it, and burn some bridges in the process

The Knights of Ren could be formed as a response to Thrawn who wanted to take a more Mandalorian approach to fighting the Empire.
