We need more active mid/large size towers out there in the market. Soundbars may be convenient, but I just dont see them as anything worth hanging onto or passing down generations of family.
Solid looking speakers and nice first look video. Will you be updating the video with a more concise listening impression? Also can multiple bluetooth devices be paired with the m40s at one time?
Personally I'd go Q Acoustics M40 with a streamer or even the built in Bluetooth. Era 300 are pretty good but these are closer to hifi in my opinion. - John
I'm sure it would sound great, or I would recommend the below. By time you have bought a streamer and an external DAC you are pretty much at the same price and it will look neater with one box instead of two. petertyson.co.uk/eversolo-dmp-a6-streamer?_gl=1*pb4966*_up*MQ..&gclid=Cj0KCQjwyL24BhCtARIsALo0fSD0KGYzpTsA3n9AlNByQjTFl6hJnqRKSWScy1KL9h8DQ7Afc6w4HB4aAon0EALw_wcB
Yes, the sub will connect to the M40 via the subwoofer line out. If you are using an AV receiver like the Yamaha you may be better with passive speakers rather than powered ones. - John.
These could be just the thing for me. I am selling all of my physical media and want a streaming based musical future. Can you stream Spotfiy via Bluetooth iPhone or would a cheaper streamer be better?
Bluetooth from your iPhone will work just fine. Maybe try it first and see how you go. If you want to try higher resolution music later you can always add a streamer. - John
If your TV has an optical output it will work fine. You will have to use the Q Acoustics remote for volume though. The imaging is impressive considering their tiny size and limited height. - John
If i connect my tv using optical and connect a wiim pro plus using the analog output into the analog input on the m40. Will I sacrifice audio quality using the analog out/input on the wiim/speakers instead of the toslink connection?@@Peter-Tyson
I would choose M40 with a WiiM Pro from those two options. The Q Acoustics 5040 are excellent and would benefit from a much better amplifier than the WiiM Amp. Aim for a similar budget or more for your amp when pricing speakers. Arcam Radia A5 is a good start ( petertyson.co.uk/arcam-a5-integrated-amplifier ) You could add a WiiM Pro to that if you don't fancy splashing out on the matching ST5 streamer. ( petertyson.co.uk/arcam-st5-streamer ) The Arcam A15 ( petertyson.co.uk/arcam-a15-integrated-amplifier ) would be even better. If you want an all in one streaming amp then I recommend the Roksan Attessa ( petertyson.co.uk/roksan-attessa-streaming-amplifier ) I Hope that helps - John
I know what you mean, they are not for everyone. If you were spec an amp, pair of low cost floor standing speakers or stand mounters and stands with cables and a basic source for £700 it would be a challenge to match the sound of the Q Acoustics. I'm sure you could but for someone that does not want the hassle or boxes , these are perfect. - John
Peter makes an excellent point: amps, DACs and signal connection cables will cost more than most people (myself included) realize. Modest quality components can easily amount to over $350 USD.
YES! Love the size of these. They've got the right idea. Thanks!

I agree. Sound from soundbars are maybe good on movies but not when you want to listen music.
Any idea if there is a high pass filter applied to the mains if a subwoofer is connected?

They look great! How would you compare them to something like a pair of Sonos Era 300’s?

I kind of wish they were WISA, but they do look great
Im considering these with a cheap streamer and using a mojo 2 as the DAC. I wonder how good they would sound as a system?

Can I use my Q Acoustics 3060s slimline subwoofer with these speakers (Yamaha R-N803D)
Yes, the sub will connect to the M40 via the subwoofer line out. If you are using an AV receiver like the Yamaha you may be better with passive speakers rather than powered ones. - John.
Why no HDMI :((((
No HDMI? Seems like an odd omission.
Yes , it would have been nice to have HDMI ARC instead of relying on the optical. - John
Can I just connect a streamer with HDMI indput or will that cause lantecy ? Wium pro plus ?
I wonder how these fair against The Nines. Around 1/3 less...
Good question.....one I don't know the answer to. I feel a comparison video coming on 👍. - John.

@@Peter-Tyson Thanks for that. I was thinking of a Naim Mu-so qb, but these look like a very tempting alternative.
Did I miss the info, but do they have DSP?
They do, the position switch tells the DSP what to do.
as these dont have HDMI input will they work with a TV using toslink. If so what about latency? How is imaging?

Not enough of a difference to notice or worry about - John
Needs HDMI connection for this to be a stereo/tv solution.
these with a wiim pro, or 5040 with WIIM amp?

Why do you need wiim pro for the m40? For the streaming options?
@@kobiorcohen6863 Yes for cast function/youtube.
So are you supposed to sit on the floor when you listen to these…. Tweeter should usually be at ear hight
I know what you mean but they are not serious high end hifi. They are an excellent compromise that gives a taste of what hifi sounds like. -John.
Aren't they too low?
Wow knee height. What the hell
Ay up I luv good sounding stuff...😂
Do I detect a dig at my Stoke on Trent accent there? 😂 - John
@@Peter-Tyson Not a dig my friend....I spent time in Stoke years ago and it is a lovely accent....brought back nice memories! 👍
Kef ls50 meta vs m40?
KLIPCH NINES !!!
£700+ - Seems expensive.

700£ expensive? represent 30% from a average salary in UK. What are you talking about???
