  • I wasn't planning on doing a how-to video of replacing the pullchain on a 2.0 amp Hunter Original. But since the original JinYou pullchain it was on had the contact on position 3 not holding the gray (low speed wire) anymore, I decided to replace the entire pullchain than reuse the old one as I never know what may happen to the fan. I also said this would be perfect to do a how-to video of replacing the pullchain on a 3-speed Original.

    Intro:
    -Introduction (0:00)
-Tools and parts + pullchains that should be avoided when ordering a replacement pullchain (0:25)
    Procedure:
-1. Freeing a stiff pullchain (skip steps 2-14 if pullchain is still working fine without any problems after using WD-40 to free the chain. This step can be skipped if pullchain still pulls smoothly or bead of the chain is already broken) (4:12)
-2. Removing switch cap or light kit (5:32)
-3. Removing pullchain (later 1.1 amp and 2.0 Originals will have the reverse switch on the side of the switch housing. Reverse switch needs to be out of the way from the switch housing to gain access to the pullchain. Earlier 1.1 amp Originals has the reverse switch on top of the motor housing and 3 speed 2.5 amp won't have a reverse switch anywhere. If the thread of where the pullchain nut goes is already broken off, the pullchain can be taken out easily without unscrewing the nut) (6:19)
-4: Pullchains that aren't worth repairing (skip steps 5-12 if your pullchain is NOT worth repairing or if you're not comfortable taking apart the pullchain. Riveted, hard to take apart, brittle plastic, and threads breaking where the pullchain nut is are examples of pullchains NOT worth taking apart to repair) (8:03)
-5. Opening pullchain case for pullchains that are only worth repairing (Arkless, Well Tec, and Zing Ear. Those pullchains are gonna be taken apart differently) (9:12)
-6. Removing cover plate on the pullchain bead case (10:21)
-7. Removing broken pullchain bead (11:27)
-8. Installing new pullchain bead (12:49)
-9. Reinstalling pullchain spindle in the pullchain bead case (keep cover plate opened up a little first, then use a small enough flat head screwdriver to turn the bead spindle clockwise to binds up with the wedge on the cover plate, pull the chain slowly until the bead spindle stops binding up and pulls smoothly, and then snap the cover plate back on. This is the most tedious part to deal with when reassembling the bead case. Use this video for a better understanding on the reassembly. • How-To Repair a Ceilin... &t=447) (14:09)
-10. Cutting the replacement pullchain bead down to desired length (OPTIONAL. Do NOT cut near the thread where the pullchain nut goes to. You need a good enough bead length in order to have easy access to pull the chain to your desired speed) (17:35)
-11. Repairing copper spring contacts that holds the wires into chain positions (18:03)
-12. Reinstalling pullchain bead case and contact case (18:40)
-13. Connecting wires to new or preexisting pullchain (19:10)
-14. Installing new/reinstall preexisting pullchain and reinstalling switch cap or light kit (do NOT reuse the pullchain nut from the old chain if the threads bind up. Use new pullchain nut that won't have threads binding up. Later 1.1 amp and 2.0 Originals will have the reverse switch on the side of the switch housing. Once the pullchain is installed, you can pop the reverse switch back into the side of the switch housing. Earlier 1.1 amp Originals has the reverse switch on top of the motor housing and 3 speed 2.5 amp won't have a reverse switch anywhere) (22:09)
-15. Testing your new pullchain switch (25:44)
