    32 is certainly not old, but it’s ancient in this sport. And she’s had two children to boot. I have great admiration for someone who can compete at this level and do it so well!

    • @kimbridge
      @kimbridge 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are a lot of top elites that quit, not because they aren’t physically able to compete after their teens, but because it’s not financially feasible to continue competing. Chellsie’s family owns a gym. So, I doubt she’s paying club fees, and I don’t know whether or not she was/is a stay at home mom. A big reason why teenagers dominate USAG is because their parents are footing their bills.

      I hope this new era of USA gymnastics is more kind to their gymnasts, unlike Marta and bela karolyi, who burnt out their gymnasts early due to their abusive training. I hope more gymnasts can stay in the sport longer and not have their career cut short by overworking/ burning out

      @@kimbridge I've also noticed in the last 8-10 years there seems to be a lot more emphasis on safety and protection of gymnasts - using padded landings more frequently. When training in the gym, landing in the foam pit for a good portion of repetitions. Gymnasts aren't getting injured as much? Plus they are actually training as adults with adult bodies and stronger bones and actual muscles vs the pre-pubescent malnourished gymnast of the 80s.

      @@horsestaplebatterygrass I still say gymnasts still get injured pretty easily. All one has to do is land a jump wrong, and their ankle can be sprained, or mess up a landing and break a leg or something. Plus, there is a lot of overuse injuries due to the training demands. If a gymnast is training 6 days a week for 6-7 hours at a time, there’s a high chance for injury simply from over training.

      It just goes to show how much people tend to overestimate how quickly endurance, recovery, and muscle strength decrease as we age.. and what that means in terms of performance as a gymnast. I, personally, find it to be kind of insane that people think someone in their early 30s isn’t capable of this (with the proper training, experience, and natural talent, of course).

    • @hannibaljustincase9985

      @@NatalieMarie917 the issue is, majority of gymnastic careers are ended because of injuries. gymnasts like idk, Maroney, Komova wanted to compete longer, but simply couldn't because of injuries. with Chellsie's comeback, I hope more gymnasts will consider longer careers, maybe a season or two of full recovery, maybe even having kids(like Paseka stated). Absolutely! Far less nervous than at Classics (you could almost see her shaking, she said that was a factor in her messed up beam mount there).. Still nervous here, coykd see it in her face, but day 1 has to have been a MAJOR confidence boost.. I looked at the podium training if her floor training, and it struck me again, at the level of COURAGE taken to give this a go. Floor especially I think would be really intimidating, wirh the younger gymnasts smashing out tumbling passes, and her not quite being at that point. And geez. Competing directly after Simone??!! Far out!!! 😂😂

    • @PhenixJoe
      @PhenixJoe 3 ปีที่แล้ว +27

      Honestly then I’m kind of over Simone‘s exemption from performing well because her difficulty is so high. She really is far from perfect but just has such enormous difficulty that she is untouchable. She went out of bounds badly on three out of her for tumbling passes, and that’s pretty normal for her. A lot of her turns are pretty sloppy, as other other dance elements. I think her whole appeal is just the extent to which she pushes the sport. But that really is not the kind of gymnastics that I like personally.

      I think about that washing routines today versus competitions back in the early 2000‘s and even around 2010. There were SO many more solid routines. I agree completely. I think the bars were feeling a bit too slippery, and - thank god - she trusted her instinct and bowed out. The next move may have seen her fall or tear her shoulder again. My guess is Chellsie wasn’t facing the correct side of the bar and she probably hopped off so she could get back on facing the correct side.
      Also chellsie isn’t used to doing giants facing the low bar so had she not hopped off she could have potentially hit her ankles and injured herself

    • @byersfamily138
      @byersfamily138 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I wonder about this from an injury standpoint. Most girls are considered old at 20 because most of them have had career ending injuries by then. Their bodies can only take so many years of the intense pounding they put it through.

    • @anovemberstar
      @anovemberstar 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      THIS X 1000!!! FAR less injuries.. The strain on pre puberty bodies, at a time where you're body is trying to retain all the calcium your body needs for the rest of your life (you stop being able to store calcium on toy skeleton afywr aged 20 ish).. Post puberty, STRONGER bodies - the Men compete with 'heacier' and 'bigger' bodies, so it's utter crap the whole 'oh but you need to be tiny and petite so you can do the moves'. 🙄

    • @anovemberstar
      @anovemberstar 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@byersfamily138 yep.. Our bodies can only add calcium to our bones until around aged 20.. After that, you can only ever maintain calcium on your skeleton wirh diet.... You literally need a diet that's conducive to building up a calcium store for the rest of your life, in your teens... And most gymnasts in the past, have been under eating, over training, and compete with masuce injuries. Its utterly INSANE if you stand back and think about that.

      My guess is she wasn’t facing the correct side of the bars. Chellsie isn’t used to doing giants facing towards the low bar and from what we saw from her training videos is she was supposed to do a half turn out of the clear hip and she just didn’t get that half turn in so she probably hopped off to position herself correctly for the next skill.

    I'd like the commentators to give us real reporting. Why is she going for it again? She went to the Olympics and performed extremely well. So what's with coming back now? Why not use your skillset to coach others to your former level? I'd want to be remembered for leaving at the top of my game and not the old lady who couldn't finish an event without falling. She's brave and worked hard, but it's time to move on.
