I love this. If it's not a problem I'mma put in some stuff. Ainz idea of low level is like Lvl 20-30. The Goblin Army is mid level 31-60ish. The " high level" people of that world are 29-30. If the average soldier of the Goblin Army is Lvl 40 they are sooo screwed. Ainz technically got the support of a mid rank army and they could theoretically advance in level. Lots of potential if he and Emery are willing to put in the work.

Given the nature of YGGDRASIL, I think one of the conditions is to have the initial goblin troop survive for an unspecified amount of time. Another condition would be some kind of level investment as a commander or summoner.

    • @Brutalyte616
      @Brutalyte616 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

@@89Keith It's unclear what the timer originally was, and because PvP was so prevalent in YGGDRASIL and the initial summons so weak, the duration might have been effectively indefinite to offset the fact they could be killed fairly easily by mid level players, whereas Ainz's more advanced summons generally have more restrictions, like relatively short timers, cooldowns and charges, and in the case of some of necromantic spells the necessity to provide a corpse as material, although the New World has twisted that last one. The full-on army is obviously of a much larger scale and quality, but even the strongest goblin NPCs would probably only cap out around level 30, and because they're goblin NPCs their basic statlines would probably be horrendous.

@@Brutalyte616 Did the LN go into any detail about summoning beings that could be called living as opposed to ones like the death knights? I cannot remember. The game was supposed to be famous for the level of detail it had in multiple aspects, so I could see it treating a living breathing creature differently than something undead.
also, aren't the redcaps lv 40 or so? & aren't the basic stats of the summoned goblins a fair bit stronger than the regular levies and soldiers of the new world.... I remember the anime in particular when the goblin army first shows up, that soldier talking to the prince about how strong they are, in a manner that implied the original troop were already pretty strong, saying they were as strong or stronger than the troop, and that this was an overwhelming force.... there were what, 5k soldiers sent with Barbaro, say 1/3 or so dropped out during the march, the troop & ogres couldn't have put too much of a dent in the roughly 3300 that would have been there, so take another 500 from that, this puts the odds at 2:1 in favor of the goblin army.... idk if I would call that overwhelming considering that the human soldiers there are supposed to be elites..... based on numbers alone for the goblins, idk if an elite soldier would literally call it overwhelming which to me implies that the humans wouldn't have made much of a dent in the goblin army, whereas 2:1 odd against an elite group I would argue could carve out a pretty large chunk, even if they lost, were the goblins on the weaker side of things.
Please prove me wrong (or right) about any/all of my assumptions, honestly, I really would like to know.

I believe the main reason why Enri was able to summon the Goblin Army, was due to the levels she gained in Sergeant(1), Commander(2) and General(2) by the end of Volume 8.
She even displayed the ability to use voice commands, similar do Demiurge. But it is also very likely that those weren't the only conditions for the summon, otherwise everyone in YGDRASSIL would know about it. It was probably a combination of those classes plus the conditions mentioned in the video.
    On another topic...
I think you're going the wrong way, about how people gain experience in the New World.
According to Sebas (and Evileye later on), the best way to level up in the New World, is by surviving life-or-death situations. Apparently, the surge of adrenaline helps unlock new abilities in the people of the New World.
This method was later applied, with much success, to Hamsuke and the Lizardmen inside Nazarick. They were forced to fight against stronger foes than themselves, to the brink of death, then they were healed up, buffed and forced to fight even stronger foes, in a hellish regime. This training resulted in Hamsuke learning Martial Arts (with the help of Erya).
I'm very curious to know their current level...
Another mistake I see often, is people thinking Mare used Greed and Generosity to store the "XP points" gained during the battle/massacre of Katze Plains...
---First of all, I don't think the concept of "XP points" exists in the New World. From what I could gather, in the New World, Experience is exactly that: real life Experiences. You "level up" simply by learning new things and improving upon them. And going through near-death situations only accelerates the process.
---Second, the only reason Mare had this World Item equipped, was to defend himself against other World Items. If the goal was to store "XP points", Mare would have to be the one performing the massacre (which he totally could... In fact, it's very possible that Mare would do way worse than Ainz! In an effort to do earn praise from of Ainz-sama, he would do his best to clean up every single enemy soldier without leaving a single one alive).
---Third and final, Ainz used this massacre as a final test to see if he could surpass the level cap of 100.
Before he was transported to the New World, Ainz was a level 100 character with a 99% "XP bar". By killing over 100.000 people, even though they were much lower level and would only give 1xp point each, he should have gained enough experience to level up. But nothing happened...
This brings me to a final theory I have...
What if Ainz has already surpassed the level 100 cap, but simply didn't notice it...
If what I understood is correct, and you gain levels in the New World by learning new things and improving upon them... It might be possible that Ainz has gained a few levels in "Actor", "Charisma", "Lord of the Castle" or some other miscellaneous Jobs, without him even noticing it. After all, there is no "ding!" sound inside your head in a real world.
It might also be possible that, in the New World, not every level gives you an overall attribute improvement, like in YGDRASSIL. Maybe you just get a small improvement to the stats related to the Job you learned. So even if Ainz gained 10 levels in "Actor", 15 levels in "Charisma" and 5 levels in "Lord of the Castle" (just an example), his HP and MP won't change at all, but he still more skilled overall.
Or maybe I'm completely wrong about everything! You guys tell me what you think! XD

About the Level up Theorie. With this the joke about brain being weaker than gazef, because of his level in farmer and cooking, wouldn't work. The way you get level you theorise about is possible, because There Are probably people with a level above average without much fighting. But if, this is due to talents. It's true that Ainz can't know if he is lvl 101 or not. There is no status menu in the New World. But I still doubt he gained a level in any new classes. If it was the case he would instinctively know new skills, because it would be a natural part of his being, like magic skills.
Like Cocytus his mind can learn new things, but they are not part of Yggdrasil systems.

I would also think being considered a 'Leader' of a village or base would also affect the summon along with having the initial troup alive for x amount of time.
How could guild or village leaders often at 100 keep low to mid level mobs alive with how little amount of areas could have a leader.
Also I agree with agree with Ainz breaking the 100 level cap since we already know he has gained levels in warrior through life experience gain as you mentioned is the new world way of leveling rather than XP gain and point distribution

Enri has nothing but the highest respect for Ainz and feels a deep sense of gratitude to him, however, the goblins are loyal to Enri and ONLY to Enri, it is more than likely that some of them will grow suspicious of Ainz and the rest of Nazarick, since they'll prioritize Enri's safety above all else. Remember Jugem warning Agu to stay away from Lupisregina, that's because he senses that she is strong and dangerous, doesn't matter that she's Ainz's subordinate, he doesn't trust her. The goblins likely will follow Enri's lead in appreciating Ainz, but the seed of doubt is already there, the strategist especially will likely figure out that something is off with Carne's relationship with Nazarick.
Ainz himself won't know what to do with the Goblin army as it was completely unexpected, he'll rely on Albedo and Demiurge to work it into the greater plan. For them, this is just one more example of Ainz's incredible genius and foresight. Carne Village now has a powerful defense and can even be utilized for offense if needed, while at the same time making the village dependant on Nazarick for food, even further proof of Ainz's clever planning!!

I feel that their interactions with Ainz would be much better than you might think, since he has nothing to hide, and treats people with the respect they deserve. They would know that they would never need to protect him, so it's not like that would interfere with their loyalty.
I also doubt that Ainz will honestly try using them at all, for his gain, unless it will help the village. Even if he did, it would be through Lupis, and it will always be Enri's choice. Most likely, Ainz would be more like a teacher figure to them, kinda just helping them out with any problems they need en extra hand with.

mine theory on why the second horn summoned an army and not just around two dozen goblins was because of three conditions that Enri meet that Aniz and other players didn't. first to get the army you need to summons other monsters or creatures and keep them alive for a period of time as massive as Nazarick is I'm assuming in game a base or dungeon raid would take between 45min to a couple hours maybe more on top tier dungeon. So in game keep a summon or summons alive for 15 to 20min is reasonable and if you don't know about the ability to get an army you are most likely just going to use the summons as meat shields/cannon fodder. Enri meets this condition as the first troop of goblins have been summoned for months before the battle. condition two arming or equipping the summons the summoner need to equip the summon or summoned with new item and if you see the summons as chaff you are less likely to bother especially if the summons have an auto loot figure like NPCs from Fallout 4 so even if a player keep the summon or summoned alive if they are upgrading their inventory they most likely would not bother. Enri meet this condition after her trip to E-Rantal when she give the goblins newer weapons. the three condition is the most important as a game feature to prevent summon spam the summoner must be the party leader, guild leader or be an extremely high rank in a join-able faction and I sure that player if they knew of a mechanic like this would most likely try to use it crashing the game server so the developer didn't talk about it but keep it as a unlisted challenge/ reward. Enri meets this third condition when she becomes village chief

It seems likely that the one using the horn has to have leader-type class levels as well. My guess, since it would have to be something that could be judged in terms of the game, is that it is a combination of Enris leadership class and all of the goblins summoned by a horn still being alive after some arbitrary length of time.

:as an anime only: Thought I do think Enri learning all the Goblins name factored into it as it built trust & respect. Also remember when they save that other goblin kid & she commanded them to duck from the bargus (sp?). Furthermore when she used intimidation to make the Ogres subservient to her? I know by default summoned creature are loyal to there summoner, but I think it was mentioned (by Nphirea) that whatever it was that Enri was doing her goblins were exponentially more loyal than normal.

if it would *just* be a high commander level, everyone including ainz would know about this.
The fact ainz did NOT know about this means there has to be some convoluted second and / or third hidden mechanic behind it.
Yggdrasil itself was littered with obscene amounts of obscure hidden shit.
It may also be something like
"Having X low level goblins under your command for Y amount of time and gaining Z amount of expirience with them"
Effectively making it like pokemon where she had to level the goblins she already had (barghest fight etc) and hitting a certain threshhold of XP + friendship etc.

    • @whyjnot420
      @whyjnot420 2 ปีที่แล้ว

@@brosephstinson1297 Yeah. The way I see it is that for Ainz to seemingly not have even heard a rumor about the horn. Afterall it is only in retrospect that he even considers the horn did more than summon some low level goblins and I'm sure there would have been a line like "I had heard talk of...." or something to that effect if we were meant to understand that he heard rumors about a hidden feature of the horn. Would mean it has to be a) ludicrously obscure, or b) so blatant nobody ever thought of it, or c) so hard to do in practice it was essentially impossible.
Personally I kind of like the idea that it takes beating a goblin without actually harming any goblins, ever. (maybe something like putting a summoned goblin to sleep until they disappeared as summons apparently did when it was still a game in the old world and being fulfilled by the arm wrestling match Enri "won" in the new world) Amongst whatever else the conditions were. If goblins are typical trash enemies, how many people would be able to say they never harmed one?
Another one I can see is something like 'command a squad of summoned goblins in battle. after that command the entire, same, summoned group of goblins in battle, after that, enter battle with the same summoned goblins against overwhelming odds'. Something like those could also account for the levels Enri got in Sergeant and Commander which I think need to be taken into consideration, even if they are not requirements, I think they are likely related to the requirements. And given that summons in the game of the old world would disappear after some time, this would likely be really hard to do.
I don't think experience points have much if anything to do with things within the new world. Its leveling is more like Skyrim, where doing things makes you better at those things, and occasionally levels you up as a whole. More like lived experiences rather than experience points.
edit: If there was a switch from experience points to lived experiences like I said, Overlord would not be the only isekai to do something like that. Log Horizon did. IIRC in Log Horizon, in the game when people died, the cost of respawning was paid in exp. but after everyone is isekaied, when people die they lose some memories, literally losing experiences themselves rather than some abstract notion like experience points. Not that this means anything in the Overlord setting, but it is worthy of note that it is not unprecedented in other works in the same genre. It also fits with the level loss suffered by dying (both in the old world game as well as in the new world, as is shown by later events and a specific character, and shown earlier with the lizardmen as well, though not with the detail of later events which benefit from 2 character sheets in the books showing the change).

While I can't speculate about the third condition, I can think of two conditions just going by the name, "The Horn of the Goblin General." By that evidence, it's safe to presume that to get the full 5000 goblins, the person or creature blowing the horn must be both a goblin and a general. When Prince Barbro was attacking Carne village, Enri was both a goblin, by adoption (shown when the goblin troops adopted addressed Enri as "big sister"), and had several levels in "General." This would have been impossible in the Yggdrasil game because players couldn't be goblins, as they only exist as computer generated monsters, and have no consciousness.

The Commander skill makes the most sense. 5,000 could easily be the limit for the horn or it could be relation to the enemy army. Problem is the New World has different rules than the game so, coming from the game I imagine that certain rules wouldn't apply. As I highly doubt any staff member of a MMORPG would allow a player to summon a army of 5,000 Goblins much less as organized as they were.

I mean the goblin army is one of the strongest military might in Overlord since they've surpassed human potential let alone a structural command is so enormous. meaning the village has expanded to coexist with goblins and humans and in relation, the humans in carne village already accepted the goblins as part of their lives.
funfact: no one in the goblin army died after being summoned. they single handedly defeated an equal number of human soldiers. red caps alone are very strong and they are tasked to protect the highest order of the ranking and also assassinate the strongest enemies. they are slightly above than adamantium adventurers in comparison which really says about Enri's might is not to be underestimated. thankfully they work under Enri and under Ains so Carne Village would be a much secure place to live.

Well as technology improves we do find a way to outgrow it. Think of it this way, they are using a virtual reality mmo, so the data for one person alone would be massive (i know that a goblin probably wouldn't be as much, however, if everyone could someone 5,000 new npcs easily i bet they could break it). I do think what your saying is possible, but I also believe most companies only put in the necessary money to have workable equipment. I doubt most companies would spare any expense to have servers that couldn't ever fail, or memory so ridiculously high that you couldn't max it out. What do you think?

During the first part of the battle, even the Carn villagers were steadfast in their loyalty to Ainz. They have no idea if he is coming or not but they are genuinely thankful to him. Enri is loyal to Ainz as well. I wonder if this might be a part of the reason that she was able to summon such a strong goblin army....a small part.
It is ironic how loyal they all are to Ainz when he only cares if four of them live.
A lot of people mention that this show is underrated and I agree. Ainz really has to stay on his toes at all times. He is in a tough spot. He really cares about his people but if they find out he really is human they might turn on him. Just guessing, but I think some might already know that he is.

A few fun facts about the actual real world units they are based on. (As in our real world, not the old world)
Cavalry: is basically useless in frontal attacks against a concentrated infantry formation that stands its ground.... Simply put, horses aren't stupid enough to willingly impale themselves on spears and swords, the only animal that is this stupid, are humans. You can see this going back even before the days of proper cavalry, with how chariots fared against different formations (they worked pretty good as terror weapons, not-so-much against trained and disciplined formations). It is in flanking that they work against this kind of infantry. Of course they are also really good against infantry that are spread out such as skirmishers and against infantry that has been routed. You can see the failure of cavalry at places as varied as Waterloo to Cunaxa, to Bannockburn, even through most of the battle of Hastings. Though to be fair, Bannockburn had as much to do with terrain if not more, than it did infantry.
Heavy infantry vs light infantry: During the march of the Ten Thousand, the Greeks on the right wing of Cyrus' army steamrolled the Persian left that they were facing, twice in the same battle, with a claim of only single digits for the number of deaths in their ranks. (mainly the Persian left pissed itself and ran away)
The story of The Ten Thousand as written by Xenophon in the Anabasis, is easily one of the most epic, interesting and amazing true stories about war in all of human history. It reads like an adventure novel, but has the distinction of being non-fiction. Even being written by one of the Greeks who was on the campaign. If you want a truly epic war story, go read it.
Musical instruments: you can look at various types of fighting and see how they like to try and use sounds that are not at the forefront of the natural noise of the battle. On wooden ships, that have lots of low frequency noises, you get really high pitched whistles and bells, while the archaic and classical age spartans would use flutes to set the pace.
Wolves: Actually developed a natural attack that is almost a variation of Alexander III's (Alexander The Great) famous hammer & anvil, utilizing wind. By putting a member of a pack upwind of prey, they would use the wind to push its scent to the prey, which would run away from the smell. Right into the rest of the pack who have been waiting downwind. Then it was time for dinner.
I just thought that people watching a video on an army might find this to be interesting or amusing, or both. There are a million more things that could be said about the real world things that the units in Overlord are based on, but I shall leave it at that.

The conditions for summoning a greater goblin army likely has more to do with other things, like leading goblins for a short while or treating them with kindness. i dunno. That would more likely explain why no players so far, regardless of how strong they were, could summon more than a dozen or so.

  • @kirstyshadowdancer5095

My personal theory about the goblin horns, is that they're magical properties are more like teleportation not summoning. Remember, it was observed that the spells in Ygasdril simply made creatures out of thin air but in the new world such spells operate differently. The Goblins summoned by the horns were probably any goblins "in the area" who would have a reason to not be hostile to the 'summoner' and said goblins were simply teleported to Enri. The fact that she treated them like people, and part of the village would have been passed on to ALL goblins in a wider area, possibly even in neighboring countries. Chances are as the enemy marched towards the town word was already spreading a Goblin Friendly village was about to be tramples - and the horn literally just teleported the already amassing goblin forces who would have willingly come to Enri's aid - directly to the town. En - mass. Instead of waiting for them to arrive a little bit at a time and way to late to be of assistance.

I thought it was clearly explained in the anime? Enri leveled up her Goblin "control" (leader, commander, general whatever you want to name the skill to control the goblins) skill by continually using the goblin she first summoned, and later the orges or whatever they were. It may also be that her use of a 2nd horn, while still having the goblins from the 1st horn around, boosted it's effect or acts like a reinforcement/backup call to the main army, thus resulting in a larger army being called but this one is less likely

If i had to take a guess I think the goblin summoned the first time most likely has an affection level only when that affection level is Max the next time the whistle gets used the summonor gets an army. A simple reason no one knew about it or found out is no player kept them alive or treated them with any level of care so their affection level never reached Max as most RPGs tend to put goblins as a low level noobie mob. It's a lot like in some games you get an item that seems to be just filler item with some vanilla text and players toss it and only after someone just so happens to keep said item do they find out it was the key to the strongest item in the game or at least one of them.

I can see this as a plausible condition. Hell she even went as far as giving each of them a unique name which seemingly nobody had done before seeing as everyone saw goblins as so weak and basic they were likely used as fodder by other players so why would they bother caring about them or naming them if they were just going to get killed quickly. I like to think she would also give names to each and every single one of the new goblins she summoned and if she ever gets and uses another horn... the force she would summon would be in the MILLIONS. Which would be equal parts hilarious and badass.

Love your Overlord content! Sorry I haven't commented on more of your videos as I should have, but they really have helped me with my own fiction writing.
I know you don't really go into the what-if videos all that much, but I was hoping you would be willing to explore a small thought that has always puzzled me in regards to the plot direction of Overlord:
"What if Ainz and Nazarick had officially allied with the Re-Estize Kingdom instead of the Baharuth Empire?"
This was something I had a slight bit of trouble understanding when I watched the anime (still haven't gotten the light novels for myself yet, darn it). With so much of Momonga's/Ainz's actions relating to the Re-Estize Kingdom early on when he and Nazarick first arrived in the new world, why didn't he try to 'keep the momentum going', as it were?
As far as I am aware, both Carne Village and E-Rantel are at the border between Re-Estize and Baharuth, but are both part of Re-Estize. So Momonga/Ainz saves Carne Village and saves the life of Gazef Stonoff, the chief head warrior of Re-Estize and personal envoy of the King. Then Ainz takes the persona of The Adventurer Momon and registers in E-Rantel. He saves E-Rantel from Zurrernorn's army of undead, saves the renowned prodigy Nfirea Bareare, and secures the service of the master alchemist Lizzie Bareare. Then he 'kills' a powerful vampire that rises Momon's rank to Adamantite, which is supposed to be a very big deal. With there being only a half-dozen or so Adamantite adventurer groups known throughout the entire continent, wouldn't the King of Re-Estize wanted to meet a new group that appeared in his kingdom? And yes, I know adventurers are supposed to stay out of politics and remain neutral to all nations, but that's not how it is in practice. Momon even gets involved with Blue Rose, and they are personal friends of Princess Renner, yet another connection to Re-Estize. Then there is the whole matter of Ainz and Nazarick taking down/control of the Eight Fingers criminal organization which had been running a lot of operations in Re-Estize. I am under the impression that yes, the Re-Estize Kingdom is not in as good social and economic condition as the Baharuth Empire, and that the royal family of Re-Estize is loosing power and influence to the nobles. But that should only make Re-Estize all the more enticing for Ainz to ally with. With all the things he had already done that could be interpreted as helpful to Re-Estize, he could build himself up as an even greater hero, both as the Sorcerer Ainz Ooal Gown and as the Adventurer Momon, and aid the royal family in reestablishing its power and control. And yet, after just one invasion of Nazarick by some workers from Baharuth, and a single meeting with Emperor Jircniv, Ainz decides to ally with Baharuth and fights on their side against Re-Estize at the battle of Katze Plains. I understand that Ainz was just trying to humor Demiurge and the other guardians and what they believed Ainz had intended all along, but I just feel that he should have recognized at least some of what his own actions had accomplished and might have been interested in continuing building an even greater hold on the Re-Estize Kingdom. So after all, the King of Re-Estize had expressed his interest in meeting the Sorcerer Ainz Ooal Gown, and Gazef was the perfect means of arranging the meeting. So what if Ainz had 'officially' signed an ally treaty with Re-Estize? And would it change Nazarick's take-over of E-Rantel?
I hope your greater detailed knowledge of the Overlord universe would find this idea at least worth some consideration.
(Sorry if this is an unwanted request, but you're the best Overlord reviewer on TH-cam as far as I know.)
    Again, really enjoy your content!

      1) the food supplies in the short term where supported by an item called the "cauldron of Dagda" This relic is a reference to the Celtic god Dagda who had a cauldron that produced infinite food and alcohol. It was first used by Nazarick in volume 8 to produce fish for the lizardmen to support them until the mass scale fish farms Zaryusu wanted to make where up and running .
      2) They do in fact build a permanent settlement long term there where more human immigrants that balanced out the numbers a bit. You see E-Rantal had a large homeless population made up of second sons and daughters from poor families who having no inheritance went to the city to find work and ended up dying on the streets. Aniz had Mare alter some of the nearby area to be suitable for farming gave the land and some seeds to those homeless people and loaned them farm equipment in the form of undead workers until they could become self sufficient. On top of this the people of carn are generally open about coexistence with other races.

    The heavy infantry core.
This implyes that there is a lighter infantry wich we see in the Beastriders but also the Archers, don't we.
The magic users are another thing entirely.
One could argue that the light infantry counterpart to the heavy infantry are the archers and that the beastriders are the same thing to the more heavily geared Paladins in terms of cavalery.
Oh wait nevermind yeah it is that way because Paladins and Beastriders are cavalery while Archers and Heavys are infantry are they not?

If I recall correctly, wasn't there a paladin among the Black Scripture? I read that in the overlord fan wiki that references author thoughts from Vol 12. That black scripture paladin comes before Remedios.
So if the Goblin Paladin leader is 2nd strongest, that would mean Remedios comes in third and is actually weaker than the leader of Enri's paladin group.

for some reason every-time i hear about these godkin ... i feel more hatred towards them! i already hate them as is! they just feel like they were designed to be hated!
in Yggdrasil info was very priceless and knowledge was the strongest weapon you can hold into!
even the eclipse class of Ainz himself was a hidden class by itself!
this video is really good! i won't mind repeating it at least 3 times over! lots of great info!
    thanks man!

@@TrueInvisible As in all social or ethnic groups, there are various individuals. The good guys, the bad guys, a middle ground, somebody better, and somebody worse. In short, there will be (perhaps) the wicked ones, who believe themselves superior because of their power, such as Clementine, Albedo or Demiurge and there will be the good ones like Gazef or something in between.

@@darkcircles3534 Have the goblins long bows ride the death knights....Boom that fixes the mobility problem of the longbow goblins and gives those who face off against the army of death knights less choices to how to engage. Like distance and melee will be covered, also gives anti air as well. Though I do not think the goblins would like such a plan, it could be a very wise balance.
