Kurt Angle On Steve Blackman Being Legit

- Kurt Angle is a 14-time professional wrestling world champion, with titles collected in WWE, TNA, and Japan. He is in both the WWE and TNA/Impact Hall of Fames, a two-time NCAA Division 1 National Champion, and has also won a gold medal in freestyle wrestling at the 1996 Summer Games with, as he likes to say, ‘a broken freaking neck.’ At every stop in his career, Angle has reached the top of the mountain, and now he’s taking his Three I’s; Intensity, Intelligence, and Integrity, to the podcast world as he joins host Paul Bromwell to take a look back at some of the matches, feuds and moments that turned an Olympic gold medalist into one of the greatest sports entertainers of all time. It’s True. It’s damn true

If you got Shamrock and Angle saying you're legit, then you're legit.
anyone wanting to fuck with blackman is suicidal.
Very true
Big Show and Bradshaw know that first hand.
@@Stonehopper1067HMGwhat happened to Show? Lol I know about The Jbl airport story.
@@prisonmike3605 there was story of Big Show trying to intimidate Blackman when he was on the floor doing sit-ups while standing over him. And without getting up Blackman swipe kicked Big Shows legs and made him fall to the ground. Then Blackman went back to doing his sit-ups. Steve Blackman always had the most symmetrical build.

My mom knew Steve Blackman.. My mom would work at her family restaurant and he was a regular there.. and he was pretty much the same guy as you saw on TV.. He would come in every week alone and order the same thing every single time and he wouldn't say a word to anybody the entire time. He would just sit alone, eat his steak, leave a tip and roll out. He wasn't a mean guy at all. He was friendly and never gave anybody a hard time but he was just really serious. Trying to even get a smile out of him wasn't likely.
Cool story, do u have another regarding Steve?
My brother knew Steve Blackman.. My brother would work at his family gas station and he was a regular there.. and he was pretty much the same guy as you saw on TV.. He would come in every week alone and fill up with Premium Plus and he wouldn't say a word to anybody the entire time. He would just park alone, maybe squeegee his windshield and roll out. He wasn't a mean guy at all. He was friendly and never gave anybody a hard time but he was just really serious. Trying to even get a smile out of him wasn't likely.
@@NefastusJones Cool story, do you have another regarding Steve Blackman?
@@Sacrilege83 My dad’s friend’s history teacher was vaguely acquainted with someone who may have known Steve Blackman. Allegedly he was just the same as the guy we saw on TV. He’d frequent the local tavern, always order the same cocktail-a pink samurai- and then take 3 hours to drink it. He’d leave a tip and go. Never said a word to anyone- even going so far as to invent an elaborate system of gestures to make himself non-verbally comprehensible. He’d never be outwardly aggressive, except for that one time where he kicked a man half to death for questioning his drink of choice. Never really smiled either. You could tell him the funniest homophobic joke you knew and he’d never even smirk. Damndest thing..
I feel like he gave your mom a hard time...
I never ever once questioned Steve's legitimacy, he was one of my favorite guys from the Attitude era. The man has ALWAYS been in great shape, even now and he's almost 60 years old. Unlike a lot of wrestlers from the past, I have never ever seen Steve out of shape.
He always had a realistic stance unlike what you see in the movies and that's a sign don't f with this guy unless you feel lucky.
Its probably because he was in shape. It seems like most fake martial artist can't even put in the effort to look the part
Especially with what he's been through in life aswell shows his character and his toughness even more
I have searched and find no information on him being in any MMA or martial arts tournaments or promotions. I can't even find what skill level he has in what martial arts. Only says he has some martial arts training
... To me he is a mid card no body and can't touch Ken Shamrock or Severn. Hell CM Punk looks to have more MMA experience than old Steve Blackman.
I used to love the mid card matches back then. So stacked with talent. The Blackman vs Shamrock matches were awesome.
Couldn't have said it any better even the mid card matches were watchable back then

I had the pleasure of meeting Steve Blackman while treating his dog as a vet tech. I'm only 5'9" so when I came in the room to talk to him, he made the room seem smaller. Super nice guy. I never thought I'd see one of my favorite wrestlers in the little rinky dink clinic I worked at.
Steve Blackman had a gym in my Mall growing up... Seen him eating Chinese food at the food court was mind-blowing to me. He was my favorite wrestler In the video game. Was scared to talk to him.
Yeah, he was an absolute nightmare in the game.

When I didn’t take anything in wrestling seriously, I still took Steve Blackman seriously.
most, if not all, pro wrestlers can handle themselves in a streetfight. they're not pussies for the most part. but Blackman was different. it's cliched term but, he had "killer instinct". you could see it in his eyes, eyes like a shark. if he decided to kill you, that's it, unless you have a gun you're dead. he would have made a decent Delta Operator.

Steve Blackman was always one of my favorites because of how legit badass he is
Best hardcore champ of all time imo.
Great choice but my pick would still be Crash Holly...RIP
UFC wasn't a thing until Blackman was in his 30s and the real big money wasn't until he was in his 40s. If the UFC came around when he was in his 20s he might've made a decent run in the company.
@@joemckim1183 he was also struggling with his health for most of the 90s. I like to think there's an alternate universe out there where he kicked Royce Gracies ass and is regarded as an mma legend lol
@@browneyemastermind It all depends if Blackman has a ground game or not. I'm sure his striking is legit but not sure if he trains to get out of submissions.
@@joemckim1183 I know in his shoot interview he talks about jiu-jitsu, and with him having an mma school I would imagine he did. Especially having worked/trained with Ken Shamrock
He was the only wrestler I met in Harrisburg Mall. I came up and introduced myself and shook his hand. He seemed like an approachable guy to me. I actually tried to pitch to him that Blackman MMA could be like a Mc Donalds and have locations everywhere but I never followed up with him. Very fit guy and massive arms.
There's an interview with Steve on Title Match Wrestling from 2007, where they asked him how Kurt would fare in MMA. Steve said Angle had no striking, so he wouldn't do well. Steve was blunt and honest - as you'd expect him to be.
You could tell Steve Blackman was legit just by his demenor.
He was an interesting guy during the attitude Era, I didn't dislike him but I also wasn't a huge fan. But I liked him. They started opening up more doors for him with the likes of AL snow and trish made for some underrated classic segments
If Blackman was having a match back in the day you knew you were going to be entertained, the dude was just fun to watch!
when someone has strength and size (strong base) like Brock, he won't botch and fumble someone onto the ground awkwardly.
Blackman was so intense and shredded when he wrestled. He hit so crisp, fast, and to the point. it looked good
Wrong. Botching has nothing to do with shape and can happen to anyone
Brock himself almost broke his neck when he botched a shooting star press. And he botched with other wrestlers occasionally.
@@Shendue Reading comprehension. The stronger someone is, the less likely they will fumble the other person. Fumbling another person is different than being careless.
He's in my top three! Blackman is a role model and a performer and a survivor and I really hope a Christian. That would be the total package
There's a rumor Blackman took down The Big Show with a leg sweep, while Blackman was laying on the ground. Dude was a real life Batman 🤣
Confirmed by Teddy Long
Difference being, batman is a wanker wearing a gimp suit, Blackman is just pure badass
Big Show did say that in an interview. He said that Blackman just sort of did this twitch thing with his leg and dropped Show on the spot. Blackman was on the ground doing sit ups or something and Show was just sort of being playful and asked him if he really knew martial arts or something to that effect and Blackman took him down. Not sure if it was a sweep or some sort of leg lock that dropped him to the ground but Show said one second he was standing over him talking about that stuff and the next second he was on the ground
When me and my mates play wrestled on the streets, we all gave our selves superstar aliases. One was Rock, one was HHH etc etc. I was Steve Blackman. What a wrestler.

He was terrible on the mic.
With a manager by his side, he could have gotten an IC title reign or two. He was just boring on the mic, but he looked menacing, wrestled the part and could mess you up to boot. He was the late 90's equivalent to Haku
@@jchockey22 Alright, Cornette
If I need somebody to watch my back in a rough bar. Steve Blackman would be a good pick.

Haku's the number one guy you'd want, but i do think i'd pick Steve so the other guys at least have a chance of leaving with their jaw intact.

I did see somewhere that Blackman asked, if the Brawl For All was legit, if he could kick people in the knees.
It was in Bob Holly's biography, apparently in the pitch meetings Blackman said for 100k and no holds barred he'd take out knees to win. The rules very quickly got changed, and there were still loads of legit injuries.

I semi disagree with the rock comment. I know most of the time he had his warrior-esque moves. But when he wrestled a technician, he turned up. If rock wrestled austin or hhh you got vintage rock. When he wrestled flair or someone else he rose to the occasion. Same can be said about Jericho. He really shined against HBK
A real fight between Angle and Blackman would have been awesome.
Steve Mufuggin Blackman, cold as ice
Few wrestlers that are actually fuckin lethal fighters. Def one of them
He was the The Perfect Weapon in the ring….for a good reason.
Steve Blackman put on a Takedown Clinic in his Brawl for Alll match against Marc Mero. I met Blackman back in 2006 and 2007 when I was cornering fighters for an mma promotion in Mechanicsville VA. Steve had his fighters there as he had a good mma school in Pennsylvania. No disrespect Kurt but I don't think you could hold Steve down he is a Beast wrestler! You're a Freestyle olympic champ but Steve's wrestling skills are modified for fighting
i dunno, Kurt was the best in the world at one time. with a broken neck. i think he could at least hold him down if he could get him. probably not now, Kurt's way too injured now and Blackman seems crazy tough still, but in their primes i think Kurt could do it. it'd be a hell of a cool thing to watch at least.
The guy WWE messed up on by not putting him in the Hof. Yet they have boring Bella twins in the Hof

Why put him in the HoF?
And that's why he's Muffugin Blackman.
If WCW came in to invade WWF it would have been Ken Shamrock vs. Haku and Steve Blackman vs. everyone else with the APA on backup duty.
Steve would have walked through Brawl for All had he continued after the first round. We know he can strike. But he didn’t even need to in Brawl for All because his double legs were shockingly smooth and quick.
Now just imagine if they would have allowed kicks.
Fought in a NHB event in mid nineties and Blackman was the ref. Never got over why he wasn’t fighting in event and was thankful he wasnt lol

They almost did something similar in 1998. They had this weird 3 way feud between Blackman, Owen Hart and Dan Severn, with Shamrock backing up Blackman. What MMA, martial arts championships has he held???? The only thing I see about him online is he was a hardcore champion and has some martial arts training. Wow
