They did that as a sort of tribute to Tiger Stadium, which had that flag in play. I once saw Ken Griffey Jr catch a ball right over his shoulder with his back to the infield next to that flag pole like it was the easiest thing ever.
Really love the RF seats in Comerica Park where the bullpens use to be. Best value in the park outside of the SRO areas. Magglio used to give a kid a ball EVERY inning up there. Also loved talking directly with the opposing Right Fielders, sometimes even between pitches. Every bit as fun as being on top of the Green Monster in LF. As for the standing room, it is the best in baseball. You can stand IN FRONT of the expensive padded, wooden Tiger Den seats almost behind home plate. We would get up from our seats at the 7th inning stretch and just go there. It was really a "too good to be true" fan experience. The wall moving in is really no big deal. Would love it if could be see through with fans standing there like in SF. If not, it really doesn't bother me. Almost unnoticeable on TV.
The issue with Rogers Centre is that infrastructure (and commercial and residential development) in that part of Toronto is centred around it being exactly where it is, to the point that replacing it with another ballpark somewhere else simply isn’t practicable. If they wanted to replace Rogers they'd have to temporarily move the Jays somewhere else (like BMO Field), demolish the original, and build the new ballpark on the same spot. Thinking about it, I don't know if the province and city would even allow that given how iconic Rogers Centre is not just to Toronto but to Canada as a whole. I suspect there'd be a push to name it a historic monument.
I dig your vids. I know I'm in the extreme minority (but I'm right 😉), but Baseball would be heck of a lot more entertaining with Pitcher Friendly dimensions. Weak home runs have inflated salaries, increased strikeouts, and turned the game into something like Home Run Derby ✌️
I once visited Cleveland and was dropped off right at Jacobs Field at the time. All i could remember was having my Cubs Jacket on, smelling that Lake nearby and waiting on my ride. That was in 2008. 8 years later the Cubs and Indians would be playing in the World Series. I broke the Cubs so called curse but it took 8 years to happen 😅
With Marlins Park I’ve never heard that story before but based on what you described, the glass most likely is bulletproof, what probably shattered would’ve essentially been the equivalent of a screen protector. Something similar has happened at the Wilis (Sears) Tower observation deck in Chicago. They have glass bottom ledges that hang out that people can stand on. Two times to date the protective outer layer which gets replaced every few months anyway has started to crack. Nobody has ever been in any danger, but it’s understandable how it would traumatize someone. The fish tanks were probably a similar story. Even if the glass is bulletproof, it’s still always gonna need that protective layer, and if that’s always in danger of shattering and potentially injuring players, then I understand why they probably decided it wasn’t worth the risk
Comerica Park - centerfield 422 and now it’s 412. I agree that the work done this past offseason was done quickly and cheaply. The LED videoboard that was a part of the RF wall is now gone. The last game I attended, a week or two ago, I noticed netting attached to underside of upper deck in certain areas. I believe this could be due to crumbling concrete issues?? Comerica does need some TLC in various parts of the stadium. The upper RF social space “Comerica Landing” has a lot of potential to be a really nice spot.

It was NOT "impossible" for a 43 y.o. Barry Bonds to hit his record-breaking 756th career home run ( I was there ) to center-right-center, OVER the 421 "Triples Alley" point, several rows back, in fact. And at NIGHT, when the ball doesn't carry as well as the daytime. The bullpens were in foul territory, akin to how they'd been at Candlestick. I agree that bullpens could be partially under the bleachers, at most, we just need to see who's warming up.
1) Not in the video, but the renovation to move the wall back at Camden Yards was absolutely brutal. 2) The post-1973 upper deck at Yankee Stadium was just fine. Great sightlines.
I loved sitting in the upper deck at old YS. You were right on top of the field. Especially from behind home plate. 1st few rows up the upper deck down the foul lines were amazing too. At Camden, I hope they move the fences in left closer to where they used to be. It doesn’t have to be as shallow as it was originally, but they took it to the extreme, and it looks ridiculously out of place now.

You should do a thorough video of the old Yankee Stadium. It wasn’t as big in 1923 when it first opened. They added seats and extended the upper deck later on. I still love the post 1970s renovation though, that’s the Yankee Stadium that I grew up watching, and I thought it was the most majestic and imposing baseball stadium in the MLB. It would also be interesting to hear your thoughts on the new stadium vs the old.
I hated the renovated Yankee Stadium. It was a bad cross between the old park and Shea and looked it. Cramped seating and promenades, hard to get in and out of, and an ugly center field. Completely lost the character of the original stadium.
@@howie9751 I liked renovated YS more as a kid, but as I got older and after taking a stadium tour in 2008, the year behind it closed, I realized how badly cramped and outdated it was. A lot of it looked kind of dumpy, so the new stadium was necessary.
@@jg2977 The new park is OK, but you're a long way from the action in the upper deck, and the design doesn't allow for good loud cheering. The views from the 300 level on down are good. Better rest rooms and concessions, although the still won't put tops on your drinks.
I was at the first game at Comerica Park in 2000. I could not believe the size of the field dimensions. Bobby Higginson, the Tiger’s outfielder at the time jokingly referred to it as “ Comerica National Park”. Rightfully so. I remember Dean Palmer, the power hitting third basemen hitting prodigious shots to deep left center that would have been a homerun anywhere else in the majors , just harmlessly drop into outfielders glove on the warning track. The Incredible Hulk could not clear the deep alley fences there. The 2005 renovation helped somewhat. But the centerfield wall was still too long, so the renovation this year brought in the center field fence approximately 10’ and the deep power alleys were also shortened, and the towering right field wall was lowered quite a bit . It is still a big ballpark, but now more reasonable for hitters. The back drop of the city skyline has always been the highlight of the park. A really nice place to watch a game because of the park location in relationship to the downtown area.
Juan Gonzales wouldn't re-sign with the Tigers because it was too small. I've been to at least 50 games there and loved it back then. Still one of the nicer parks I've been to and I've seen like 15 or so
My problem with Comerica Park is that the 1st row of seats in the upper deck are further away from the field than the last row of upper deck seats (even with the 10 ft overhang over both ends of RF) at Tiger Stadium

When they knocked a hole in the left field wall to aid in the new construction of GAB, it made a nice difference in Riverfront. Nice sightlines, better airflow. Saw Lance Berkman his 3 HR one night against the Reds!

I don't understand the mindset with building a new stadium and making the outfield gigantic. First of all who wants to sit 700ft from home plate, second who wants to watch a game where every deep flyball is a routine out? It bothers the hell out of me they think having a huge outfield is a good idea with some of the newer parks.
Hate what they did to Rogers Centre. They destroyed the place. Upper seats now smaller, lower positioned, dark coloured seats so when roof closed is dark up there. Roof open is hot up there now. The Park area is cheaply done. The bar areas are tight and crowded. Whoever did the reno should be fired.
